Chapter 134: Is That A Volcanic Eruption?

That morning, three naval ships of Lireya along with a few helicopters headed toward the Verde Island. Half-way through their destination, a loud explosion was heard in the entire capital of Lireya.

Marx and Amaya ran out of the palace to take a look. Verde Island could be seen from Asteria Palace. Amaya was shocked when she saw the mountain covered in flames and smoke.

"Is that a volcanic eruption?" A palace servant asked.

"It doesn’t look like one." another servant replied.

Within a few minutes, black cars started pouring into the palace’s driveway. Marx pulled Amaya’s hand. "Let us get back inside."

They hurried to the study behind the throne room where the meeting with the Defense Minister and the Generals happened earlier. Within thirty minutes, the generals were back.

"Your Majesty, Your Highness, we deployed our naval ships and two of our submarines and they intercepted submarinesleaving the island. There are two submarines."

"That must be where they placed their research facility. But they evacuated too fast, unless an accidental explosion happened." Marx blurted out.

The generals glared at him. Marx understood that as an outsider, he doesn’t have the right to meddle in the internal affairs of the Lireya. He kept his mouth shut.

"Grandpa, Mount Ibra is burning. Please save it." Amaya’s heart ached as she watch the smoke billowed over the mountain. Then she saw helicopters dumping water over the burning forest. She suddenly had an idea.

"Grandpa, can I borrow a helicopter?" The King of Lireya hadn’t said anything yet when Amaya added. "Thank you, Grandpa."

She held Marx’s hand and hurried to where the helicopter was parked at the back of the palace. A few guards came with them to ensure their safety.

The pilot asked clearance from the palace security and when he was given the green light, he maneuvered the helicopter to the south.

Amaya logged on to her social media account and turned on live streaming. Marx looked at her while wondering when did she learned to do these things.

Amaya put on her headset and started talking into the mouthpiece.

"Be careful with your words Aya. Do not cause panic." Marx warned her.

Amaya nodded. With her soft and soothing voice she coaxed the people of Lireya especially those who are in the capital and owned an aircraft to help the government’s fire fighting team to put out the fire.

"We only have a few breathing spaces in the capital. Let us all work together to conserve this forest. I implore all of you who have the capability. Please talk to your fathers or your uncles and let them help these brave soldiers of Lireya who are fighting against time to save the mountain and to stop the smoke that would poison our atmosphere."

Amaya focused her cell phone on the few helicopters who were fighting to save the forest.

After some time, a helicopter with a suspended bucket arrived at Verde Island. It hovered over the sea to fill the big bucket with water and empty the contents on the raging fire on the forest.

Soon, another one appeared from the North. One after the other, the helicopters came and in no time the forest fire was put out.

Amaya could not help it. She sighed with relief and tears started rolling from her eyes. Her voice croaked as she said thank you to all those who helped.

"Thank you for your help. I know that some of you may have pestered, pleaded or begged your fathers or uncles to send those helicopters. Look guys, the fire has been put out. My heart aches to see that a large portion of the forrest was burned but without your help, nothing could have been saved."

The comment section of the Amaya’s live stream became very busy.

’Princess, believe it or not but my daddy is watching your live stream. Before I can say anything he already deployed his chopper.’

’Wow! Your dad is great! I have to act cute and pester my dad before he finally agreed.’

’My young uncle was your fan, Princess! That red helicopter at the background is owned by my uncle.’

’My grandpa is a friend of Earl Anishton. When I told him that the island at the south of the capital was burning, he immediately commanded my dad to send the helicopter.’

’I do not have a dad but I have my Mom. She sent over the first helicopter, the one with the orange bucket.’

"Once again, thank you everyone for your big help. Today, I am very proud to be a Lireyan. You all make me proud. I am going to turn off my live streaming now. We will go to Verde Island to check if the plains was affected by the explosion."

Amaya turned off the live stream and told the pilot to land at Verde Island.

"I didn’t know that you are very good at live streaming. Your viewers reached 60 thousand." Marx spoke loudly so Amaya can hear him.

"Isn’t it just talking to the phone?" Amaya did not understand where Marx was coming from.

Marx reached out to tuck away the hair that covered her face because it was blown by the wind. He removed his cap from his head and placed it on hers.

Amaya tied her hair into a knot so the wind could not mess them. She lifted the cap a little bit so a big portion of her forehead was still exposed.

"You looked beautiful with the cap on."

"Really? Can I take a selfie?" She beamed.

Marx placed his arm around her shoulders and touched her left cheek with his right cheek. Amaya smiled and extended her hand then tapped on the camera button a few times.

She showed the photo to Marx but she frowned when she saw that he was not smiling.

"Why are you not smiling?"

"Take another one. I will smile this time." Marx held Amaya even tighter. He let his right cheek rest on her left cheek. This time he was smiling broadly.

...

When the helicopter landed near the Anishton Castle, Marx alighted from the aircraft and assisted Amaya.

When they were still airborne, Marx surveyed the plains and found out that it was not affected by the explosion. The construction site was also not affected.

The helicopter landed on the plains beside the castle. Marx accompanied Amaya to visit the Earl. He was actually waiting for them outside his castle.

"Grandpa, are you alright? Did the explosion affect you?" Amaya asked, her voice full of concern.

The earl’s eyes reddened. ’Here are two strangers who are not related to me by blood, visiting me and showing concern. But my own flesh and blood abandoned me.’ A deprecating smile appeared on his tired and wrinkled face. ’Am I that bad as a father?’

"I am alright. I thought that I have hurt my eardrums from the loud explosion, but since I can hear you then I am fine."

Marx looked around and noticed that the extra car that was there yesterday was gone. "Where is your son, Grandpa?"

The old man sighed. "He left when he heard the explosion. He said he will go back to Usturia."

"Grandpa, why don’t we sit over there?" Amaya pointed to a wooden bench placed under a huge tree. The pair of young man and woman, assisted the Earl. They held him on each arm and guided him to the bench. It looked like that the explosion has taken a toll on him.

"Grandpa, something happened on that forest." Amaya started. She felt that it was only proper to tell the old man as he previously owned the island.

The old man looked at her in surprise. "Yes. It caught fire right?"

"No, Grandpa. There is something else."

"Something else?"

"Yes. We were attacked by ferocious animals last night. There were many of them and they sought us. We did not even provoke them."

The old man nodded and urged her to continue. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"We killed a lot despite the difficulty. Then we found out that the dead animals have bombs installed in their bodies. If triggered, the body will explode."

"What?" The old man’s drooping eyes widened.

"How could there be animals like that in the island?"

"The explosion might be related to the animals." Marx butted in. "It looked like they were experimenting on the animals and turning them into weapons."

The Earl shuddered. "Are they rebels or terrorists?"

"We cannot confirm yet Grandpa. But the reason why we came here is because of your first son."

"My Son?" The Earl became even more confused.

"Yes. He offered to buy back the island at two times the amount we gave you Grandpa."

"But where would he get that much money? Even if I gave him the proceeds of the sale of the island, there will still be a huge deficit."

"I did not agree to sell it back. He asked me to think it over and then the explosion happened." Amaya looked at the old man sincerely. "If he didn’t have the money to buy back the property, then how will he raise the remaining amount?." The old man narrowed his eyes and was thinking deeply.

"Earl Aniston, our bold guess is that, he was used as a pawn and someone will be paying for the amount. They originally did not want a person or anything that can hinder them from whatever they are doing in the island, but unfortunately, we barged into their animals. Marx explained.

"I’ll call him." The Earl sounded fearful.
