Chapter 108: Was She Jealous?

As Phoebe’s screams filled the air, Amaya released the arrow. Phoebe closed her eyes. She wanted to throw herself at Marx, who was still kneeling in front of her, but she could not move. She was too dumbfounded, and her body refused to move.

’Did Amaya misunderstand? Was she overcome with jealousy that she wanted to hurt Phoebe?’ These were the thoughts in Marx’s mind when he heard a loud thud, and Phoebe gave out a horrendous scream that scared the birds resting on the trees.

When Phoebe did not feel any pain, she opened her eyes. At the same instant, a snake as big as her thigh fell in the gap between her and Marx. The snake was long, so part of its tail fell on her body while her head fell on her outstretched legs. The head was looking in her direction, and an arrow was in between its eyes.

"Take it away! Please take it away! Boo hu hu hu." Phoebe was so scared out of her wits that she was crying without minding how ugly she looked.

Dave, Enrico, and Drake, who came from different directions, arrived at the same time. Liza and Margaret appeared after a few seconds. They were panting and scared.

Marx regained his senses and stood up. Amaya had already approached them and started to remove the snake’s body from Phoebe, who was still crying.

Marx helped Amaya. ’So Amaya was aiming for the snake.’

"He was about to strike Phoebe, so I have to shoot," Amaya explained. Marx hummed and nodded his head.

When the snake was removed, Liza came forward and hugged her friend.

"It is okay. The snake is dead now."

"What happened?" Dave asked. When he arrived, he saw that Marx was kneeling before Phoebe, and her left shoe was removed. He did not see the snake from where he was because Marx covered it with his body.

"I heard Phoebe’s cry. When I checked on her, she said she had sprained her ankle. I removed her shoe and was focused on her foot, not noticing the snake. Fortunately, Amaya came. Marx cursed himself for being careless."

Amaya dragged the snake toward the stream. Liza and Margaret trembled when they saw how long it was.

Marx wanted to help Amaya, but when he tried to leave, Phoebe grabbed his hand and wouldn’t let go.

"Please don’t leave me." She begged while sobbing incessantly. Marx was irritated.

"Bro, please stay with her. She is still in shock." Dave pleaded with Marx.

Marx breathed heavily as he looked at Drake and signaled with his eyes. Drake, being perceptive, hurriedly followed Amaya and helped her carry the snake. Earlier, Drake wanted to help her but was afraid that his boss would not be happy. Now that he has his blessings, he obliged.

Enrico, Vasquez, and Ricardo went to the stream to watch Amaya. They took a video of her skinning the snake and removing its fangs.

Amaya noticed that the four mountaineers were watching her so she asked. "Do you like to eat grilled snake for lunch?"

"Yes." They chorused.

"Help me cut the snake into small chunks." She hurriedly left and took her backpack from where she left it earlier. When she came back, she passed a tote bag to them. The inside of the tote bag was lined with foil to keep the food fresh.

Meanwhile, Phoebe was still making a fuss and Marx was losing his patience. He kept on glancing to where Amaya has headed with the snake earlier.

"Excuse me." He said coldly as he pried the hand that grasped his wrist.

"Dave, you take care of sister-in law. I need to check on my ’girlfriend’" He put emphasis on the word girlfriend then he left and head towards the stream.

Dave thought of something. "What if there are other snakes here? I remembered Marx telling me that when they tried to look for the crew of the plane that crashed, it so happened that the crash site was a nest of snakes."

When the three women heard what Dave said, they hurriedly stood up and followed Marx. Phoebe even forgot to pretend that she had a sprained ankle.

When Dave noticed that Phoebe walked he usually looked at her with a complicated gaze.

They continued climbing the mountain and arrived at the peak by 10:30 am. They were delayed by 30 minutes because of the incident with the snake.

They were able to measure the elevation of the mountain at 1,030 meters.

The peak of the mountain was a plateau. The flat surface was more than one hectares with a few trees and lots of bushes.

Amaya surveyed the other mountain. "So, it was actually located behind this small mountain," she murmured. Marx who came to stand behind pulled her by the hand and lead her to another area.

"Come. The view is better on this side." Marx pointed downwards and Amaya noticed that the two mountains were s separated by a river and the vegetation on the other mountain was denser and they looked lush.

"I will call this mountain Mount Daya and that other one Mount Ibra. This is to honor my parents."

"Okay. I’ll have the names registered."

Amaya was looking intently at Mount Ibra. It was best to release her friends on Mount Ibra rather than Mount Daya. The only problem was it was too far away from her villa.

Amaya watched the movements on the other mountain. She also listened to the sounds. While the sounds were faint, she could identify to which animals they belong.

The original plan was for them to explore both mountains, but looking at Phoebe and the two other women, Amaya thought it was a bad idea. It was better for them to bring more men who had experience dealing with wild animals.

"Marx, let us not proceed with going to the other mountain. Phoebe will not be able to take it. I don’t think that Liza and Margaret are also capable."

"Why?"

At that moment, Dave approached them. He was curious as to what they were talking about.

"I sensed that Mount Ibra is dangerous. There are many wild animals there. I heard wolves and tigers. There are sounds that I don’t know what kind of animals they are."

Dave was surprised. "Can you hear the sound? How come I don’t hear anything?"
