Quick Transmigration: The Mad Beauty Refuses to Be the Scapegoat!-Chapter 154 - 26: The Drama Queen Sister Refuses to Be Cannon Fodder (Part 26)
Currently, everyone’s balance is zero; if they want to eat on the fourth day, they’ll have to go out with the team today to search for supplies.
Of course, Little Eight and Lin Yan don’t need to go; they are now placed in the most luxurious room, being well-fed and taken care of, visited three times a day by Andre.
Jiang Lai and the others benefited from Lin Yan’s light and got to meet this king of the apocalypse.
Andre is a burly man in his fifties, with a look of genuine honesty, but his eyes always gleam shrewdly. He wears a leather coat and walks with large strides. The person in charge of the main entrance was also there that day and politely exchanged a few words with Jiang Chao when he saw him.
Lin Yan always looks sleepy in front of Andre, with a slow speech and even slower movements, never fully engaging with whatever Andre says, and finally just says directly,
"Take your people out, don’t bother me."
"Sure, sure, doctor, have a good rest. If you need anything, just let me know; no need to be polite."
His attitude is so good that anyone would think Lin Yan is the boss of this base.
Jiang Lai leaned in and asked.
"Why does Andre call you doctor?"
"Maybe because I’m knowledgeable."
"Have you researched anything recently?" 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Lin Yan looked at her and directly stretched out his hand.
"Where’s the apple?"
Jiang Lai readily gave him one; the man ate the apple while sitting on the lab bench, his white coat accentuating his tall, thin figure. His straight legs were propped on the chair, giving him an especially leisurely and lazy appearance.
"The principle of serum research isn’t difficult; the challenge is sample collection."
"What kind of samples?"
"All kinds of mutated species in the world currently, including just six known types of human-mutated zombies. Besides humans, there are other mutated plants and animals; only by collecting them all can a universal serum be developed."
Hearing this, Jiang Lai patted her chest with confidence.
"No problem, leave it to me. Whatever you need, just tell me; I’ll go out and catch it."
"It’s none of your business."
Lin Yan looked at her with calm eyes.
"What you need to do is stay by my side; I’ve already got Andre collecting those samples."
"Anyway, I want to go out on missions with everyone. If I come across something, I’ll bring it back for you."
"You don’t need to go out on missions."
Jiang Lai frowned and then heard Lin Yan’s drawling response again.
"Your mission is to satisfy my needs and be my personal assistant."
"I don’t think that’s suitable; I still prefer a more adventurous lifestyle."
Lin Yan glanced at her and continued flipping through the book in his hand.
"Jiang Lai, since I previously agreed to stand in as your boyfriend, you can also ask me for anything, like serum research, or anything else, it’s all possible."
Jiang Lai felt that this person spoke without any psychological burden, saying anything that came to mind, even someone as mentally strong as Jiang Lai was left speechless.
"My requirement is that you stay here safely and research the serum. Then I can help collect samples, and finally, you can save the world, and I’ll have fulfilled my role perfectly."
"What if you die?"
"I won’t. I still have to stay alive to protect you, and don’t underestimate me; I’m very strong. Even Gu Han Yan is no match for me."
"She’s nothing."
"Indeed."
--
Finally, Lin Yan relented and allowed Jiang Lai to go out with Jiang Chao. Before the first departure, Lin Yan gave Jiang Lai a syringe containing a light blue liquid.
"Take it, use it after being bitten by a common zombie."
"Serum?"
"Yes, but the sample is singular; it only protects against the common zombie virus."
Jiang Lai happily accepted it.
"Such a good thing, why haven’t I seen you take it out before?"
"Suddenly worried you might die."
"..."
That left Jiang Lai completely baffled.
"Tsk tsk tsk... Jiang Lai, Jiang Lai, you enticed..."
"I swear, I didn’t."
She swore she never had any intention of enticing a man from start to finish.
Yet Lin Yan probably didn’t genuinely like her; he was likely just afraid that if she died, no one would supply him with apples anymore.
Jiang Lai was self-aware; Lin Yan was clearly a meticulous egoist who weighed everything by its benefit to him, unlikely to fall for someone for no reason.
Little Buding sighed once again at how rare it was to have such an insightful host.
After breakfast, the team gathered at the small gate exit. Jiang Chao left a space for Jiang Lai in the car. When Jiang Lai got in, everyone looked over; it was, after all, the first time such a young girl had joined in the venture out of the city for such a long time.
"Your sister looks so young, how old is she?"
A person who had been chatting well with Jiang Chao asked quietly.
Jiang Chao didn’t want to say much about Jiang Lai, and his previously friendly expression turned cold.
"Over twenty."
"What’s her superpower? Other women usually stay back at the base doing chores; it’s rare to see them going out."
Jiang Chao didn’t really want to talk; after mumbling a response, he handed Jiang Lai her water bottle.
"Drink some water; don’t get out of the car unless necessary, stay in and keep watch."
"That won’t do. I’m out here on a mission."
"What mission?"
"Helping Lin Yan collect samples. See that big cage at the back of the car? It’s specifically for catching mutant beasts. Andre also said there’s a reward of ten thousand coins for catching something on the list."
Jiang Chao didn’t know about this, no wonder everyone in the car had been looking out of the windows, it’s because of this.
"They have a detector here, given by Lin Yan, which can detect active superpower points. I also have one; when the time comes, we’ll just go earn some money."
The car stopped at an abandoned chemical plant. Judging by the expressions of the people in the car, Jiang Lai knew there must be something big here.
After getting off the car, the team leader assigned tasks to everyone. Jiang Chao and Jiang Lai were tasked with finding the fuel the base needed, and the others followed the team leader into the factory.
There were many ordinary zombies wandering outside. Jiang Chao threw a few fireballs, burning several zombies to ashes, and after clearing the area, he was about to head to the fuel room when he saw Jiang Lai walking in the opposite direction with the instrument.
"Where are you going?"
"To find samples; you come too. Forget the fuel."
The team leader did not seem trustworthy, sending the siblings to an area swarming with zombies while taking his buddies elsewhere to search for samples.
The instrument showed a red dot in that direction, and it was very bright, much brighter than the one she was headed to; obviously, it was a more formidable sample.
