Pursuing Her Best Friend after Confession Failed-Chapter 109 - 90: The First Intimate Contact on the Playground_2
A pang went through Li Yuan’s heart. Zhong Tingyue was smiling, yet he could somehow read a deep, profound sadness hidden within it.
He opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say. He could only stand there silently, quietly watching Zhong Tingyue, wanting to engrave the image of her under the moonlight into the depths of his heart.
For him, this dance beneath the moon might very well be her swan song...
Just then, Li Yuan heard the crunch of footsteps on the grass approaching him. The sound shattered the silence, breaking the awkward atmosphere between them.
"Too bad. We just got here and the dance is already over. We didn’t get to see this girl’s solo under the moon."
"Brother Zhu, should we go over and say hello? There’s a guy with the dancing girl."
"Let’s go. I have to see what this girl looks like with my own eyes. I won’t be satisfied until I do."
"Brother Zhu, her boyfriend is there too. If we go over and hit on his girlfriend, are we going to get beaten up?"
"You idiots, what’s there to be afraid of? It’s just him alone, and there are three of us. What’s the problem? Follow me."
With his sharp senses, Li Yuan glanced over and saw three young men approaching. One of them looked somewhat familiar. His mind raced, and he quickly recalled who it was. As for their intentions, hearing their conversation and knowing their track record, he didn’t have to guess to know they were up to no good.
He’s like a damn leech, always popping up wherever I go. Is he part husky or something? His nose is too damn good.
Li Yuan took a step forward, positioning himself in front of Zhong Tingyue and blocking the three men’s view of her.
A Little Moon like this... they weren’t worthy of even looking at her.
Zhang Xiuzhu brushed back the hair from his eyes, straightened his clothes, and walked up to Li Yuan and Zhong Tingyue. He was about to offer a gentlemanly greeting. "Hello, juniors..."
As he spoke, his voice faltered. The young man in front of him looked familiar, but the dim moonlight made it hard to immediately recall who he was.
But Li Yuan’s cold, mocking laughter was already drifting toward them. "What’s the matter, Great Minister Zhang? Still trying to pick up girls on the field this late at night? Are you that desperate?"
Hearing that voice, Zhang Xiuzhu felt a jolt and immediately remembered who the tall, imposing young man was. "It’s you! What are you doing here?" he blurted out.
Li Yuan sneered, "What a strange question. Does your family own the school? Or did they build the soccer field? You’re allowed to be here, but I’m not?"
A young man beside Zhang Xiuzhu frowned. "What’s your name? Who do you think you are, talking to Minister Zhang like that?"
Li Yuan glanced over at the speaker, a young man about 1.78 meters tall wearing glasses. He couldn’t be bothered to reply, but he found the familiar, pompous tone amusing.
In his past life, even the high-ranking leaders he knew didn’t carry on with such airs. A mere student union member acting like some big shot? What a joke.
Li Yuan’s expression was strange. "Great Minister Zhang sure has a powerful presence. He even brought his personal bodyguards along."
Zhang Xiuzhu’s face turned livid. He clenched his fists and, emboldened by his numbers, took a step forward. He looked at Li Yuan and sneered, "Junior, your tone is a bit too aggressive. We just wanted to come over and make friends. Why do you have to be so hostile?"
"Make friends?" Li Yuan scoffed. "Heh, you know better than anyone what you really wanted to do."
The young man in glasses stepped forward, staring down Li Yuan with a domineering air. "I’ll count to three. Apologize for what you just said."
Li Yuan spoke calmly, "One, two, three. Alright, we’re at three. What are you going to do about it?"
The bespectacled man’s chest heaved with rage. He pointed a finger at Li Yuan. "You’re really..."
Before he could finish, Li Yuan slapped his hand away. "I hate it when people point at me."
Zhang Xiuzhu had seen Li Yuan’s physique before, but the man in glasses had not. Humiliated and furious at having his hand slapped away, he lunged to grab Li Yuan. With lightning-fast reflexes, Li Yuan caught his arm and squeezed hard. The man’s bones gave a sickening series of cracks.
The man in glasses felt an iron vise clamp down on his wrist. Pain made cold sweat pour down his face as he screamed, "It hurts! It hurts! It’s going to break! Damn it, let me go!"
"Still acting tough?" Hearing him still trying to sound defiant, Li Yuan squeezed again. The man grimaced and howled in pain.
"Let go! Let go! I... I was wrong!"
Only then did Li Yuan release his grip, shoving him aside. The man in glasses grimaced, staring at Li Yuan with a terror that came from the very depths of his soul.
Seeing his top "general" so easily defeated, Zhang Xiuzhu couldn’t help but gasp, his body trembling. He never imagined that his attempt to strike up a conversation would lead to Li Yuan getting physical.
Zhang Xiuzhu’s voice quavered. "You... how could you... hit someone?"
Li Yuan scoffed mockingly. "Three guys with ill intentions cornering a man and a woman in the middle of the night? I call this self-defense. Great Minister Zhang, surely you know something as basic as that, right?"
Zhang Xiuzhu tried to argue. "We just wanted to get to know you."
"We don’t want to know you," Li Yuan cut him off. "Get lost, now. Or I’ll beat you up too."
Zhang Xiuzhu shuddered. He opened his mouth to say something but held his tongue. His gaze shifted to the figure behind Li Yuan, barely making out the silhouette of a beautiful woman in white. It was too dark to see her clearly.
The man in glasses moved next to Zhang Xiuzhu and whispered, "Brother Zhu, let’s go."
Zhang Xiuzhu nodded. He shot a look of deep resentment at Li Yuan but kept his expression calm. "Junior, my name is Zhang Xiuzhu, the PR Minister of the Student Union. My apologies for being so forward today..."
Li Yuan stared at him, his patience worn thin. "Cut the crap and get lost," he sneered.
Furious, Zhang Xiuzhu glared at Li Yuan but ultimately didn’t dare say anything more. He silently vowed that he would make Li Yuan pay for this one day.
"Let’s go."
After Zhang Xiuzhu and his friends had disappeared, Zhong Tingyue finally spoke in a quiet voice. "Li Yuan, you’re so domineering."
Li Yuan touched his nose in embarrassment. He knew he had overreacted. The moment he heard that some guys wanted to hit on her, his first instinct was that he couldn’t let them see her, not like this.
Tonight’s Little Moon belonged to him alone.
Li Yuan adopted a serious tone. "Those three guys coming over to hit on you late at night definitely had bad intentions. I was just ridding society of a pest."
Zhong Tingyue giggled. "So, I should thank you once more, then?" She emphasized the words "once more" with clear implication.
Li Yuan understood, of course, and chuckled. "Well, I wouldn’t be against it."
Zhong Tingyue rolled her eyes at him. Feeling tipsy, she stepped forward until she was barely twenty centimeters away from him and smiled enchantingly. "So, Senior Li Yuan, how would you like this little lady to thank you?"
At such a close distance, Li Yuan could feel the warmth of her breath. A rush of blood went to his head, and on impulse, he leaned in and kissed her on her red lips.
Their warm, soft lips met. In that instant, it felt as if an electric current shot through them both.
It was Zhong Tingyue’s first time drinking, and having finished two beers, she was already quite intoxicated. Ambushed by Li Yuan’s sudden kiss, she stared at him with wide, blank eyes, momentarily forgetting to resist. After a few seconds, she seemed to snap back to her senses. She pushed Li Yuan away and stared at him, a glimmer of tears in her hazy eyes.
Li Yuan also regained his composure. He was about to speak, but Zhong Tingyue cut him off. Her face was a blank mask—no shame, no anger. She just spoke calmly.
"Li Yuan, let’s go back to the dorm."
