Chapter 128: Titanium Division 1

As the golden lights faded and the crowd’s cheers mellowed into whispers of anticipation, a new tone swept across the arena.

Gone was the playful commentary, as well as the laughter and lighthearted rivalry. The arena floor sank into darkness, and then—like the raising of a god’s stage—a massive obsidian ring emerged from below, encased in shimmering energy barriers that crackled faintly.

Above, the screen dimmed before revealing an insignia etched in brilliant platinum-blue, the very emblem of the Titanium Division.

The crowd stood up as everyone - even the seated VIPs - knew that this was not just another division, but rather the summit of esper power.

This was what most came here for, be it the factions like Supreme Force and even the Ancients - they definitely sent a secret observer disguised as a normal person - as well as the businesses like Daoming Corp and finally the top esper clans looking to recruit affiliates.

Lysandra’s voice returned, low and ceremonial. "The time has come... to welcome the peak of the Academy. The division that holds the future’s might, the foundations of factions, the shadows of the mighty Reaper’s path. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Titanium Division!!"

Thunderous applause erupted as light spears descended from the ceiling, illuminating the grand staircase now forming at the side of the arena, one fit for royalty.

Lysandra continued as she gestured to the holographic display. "Thirty-two participants, each one a terror in their own right. From elite A-Class combatants to full-fledged S-Class legends. They will not fight for fame... but for supremacy!"

And then, their names began to appear, with each name shimmering against a backdrop of color-coded rankings.

[16] Zev Lume (A-Class - Bladed Rain) vs. [17] Alren Savik (A-Class - Phase Walker)

Sophia crossed her arms with a small hum. "Well, at least my opponent has a decent flame pedigree, so it shouldn’t be boring."

Rina blew a strand of hair from her face. "I don’t care who’s in my brother’s bracket. If they touch his jacket, I’m going full Widowmaker."

Tessa stretched her neck with a grin. "Steel boy again, huh? Poor guy. Didn’t we spar last month?"

Lucian simply nodded at his matchup, not caring at all.

Eleanor glanced up from her tome and scoffed before looking back down.

Tyrron, whose arms were folded, didn’t even glance up to take a look at his tournament bracket.

Roland finished his drink and looked to the crowd with an easy smile, showing his confidence of victory.

As for Kazier?

He just stared at the matchups... not with fear, not even with anticipation, but with placid acknowledgment.

"This will be the beginning of something." He murmured.

Lysandra’s voice rang out again, sharp and clear.

"All participants in the Titanium Division, report to the lower sanctum. The arena will now enter Godlock Phase One."

As the lights flickered down and the lower chambers opened, the crowd lost all sense of calm as their hearts leapt to their throats, wondering how things would turn out from here?

When the obsidian ring settled into place, the shielded arena pulsed with extra layered circuits of energy as the expected power output of these young espers was predicted to be earth-shattering. Around the stadium, the temperature seemed to drop not from the cold of winter, but from the sheer gravity of the moment.

The contestants of the Titanium Division began their descent down the platinum staircase in ones and twos. Each wore custom battle gear, not Academy uniforms as these were personal suits, crafted for actual combat rather than style.

Some bore family crests, others the insignias of factions or private mercenary units while a few wore nothing but practical armor and blank expressions. No one here was unknown and no one here was weak.

Each participant was announced with brief flashes of their name and power, a flickering bracket to hype the first wave of battles, causing the crowd to roar again every few seconds.

Rina descended like a diva with mirrored sunglasses still on, her white cropped jacket flowing behind her.

Lucian glided in next, his silver hair untouched by gravity, steps mechanical and silent.

Sophia strode down without expression, purple void energy flickering at her fingertips.

Tyrron cracked his neck as sparks of green lightning trailed behind him.

Roland waved lazily at the cameras while riding a ripple of condensed mist.

And then, the name everyone had waited for blinked onto the central display.

[Kaizer Lunin "The Overlord" - S-Class Esper - Psychic]

The audience surged to their feet as spotlights converged at the top of the staircase, and for a few moments, only silence remained. Then the sound of heavy boots echoed through the arena as Kaizer stepped into view.

He wore no cloak, nor any excessive armor. He chose a sleek, reinforced black combat suit lined with pale blue conduits that shimmered with his suppressed psychic energy.

His hair was swept back cleanly - thanks to Rina’s grooming - his eyes were unreadable, their blue light glowing faintly under the arena lights.

Kaizer didn’t smile nor did he wave dramatically, as that wasn’t his thing. He simply walked down the staircase, slow and silent, his thoughts on how to handle this match cleanly.

In the Heir Pavilion, Davion’s glass cracked slightly under his tightening grip.

"Finally." He whispered, his eyes flickering with malice.

From the other end of the arena, his opponent had already stepped forward, being Akiro Thorne, the Bone Shard Manipulator.

He was a lean, pale young man with black hair tied back and bone-white gauntlets designed with intricate carvings. His bare arms were covered in callouses and scars, showing that he was battle-forged and brutal.

He cracked his neck, flexing his hands as white splinters grew from beneath his skin and hovered around him like a swarm of jagged blades.

"Hope you’re tougher than your pretty face suggests." Akiro said, smirking.

Kaizer stopped mid-step, looked up... and didn’t say a word.

But his aura rose slightly and the air began to bend, causing everyone’s faces to change.

’I will stick to 10% power for now.’ Kaizer thought to himself.

"Let the battle, begin!" Lysandra called out with bright eyes, the crowd following her tempo as they leaned forward in anticipation.

"Ha!" Akiro roared as he created a bone spur beneath him that bent then propelled him forward like a bullet, manifesting a blunt hammer-like bone weapon at the edge of his fist which would connect with Kaizer’s face.

BANG!

A connection was made!

The crowd gasped in shock, thinking that this was not good, when they noticed that Akiro was gritting his teeth as he tried to push forward, but a blue shimmering psychic barrier appeared in front of Kaizer that blocked his path.

Even more intensely, this barrier was not even rippling in the slightest, acting like a wall that was being punched by a child rather than someone who used both force and momentum to increase their power.

Akiro leaped back and then charged forward again, striking another part of Kaizer’s body which was also protected by the barrier and causing all his force to be dissipated without even causing the slightest wave.

"I don’t believe it!" Akiro roared as he went crazy, pushing his power as he crazily threw punches using all kinds of bone spurs from his body, be they sharp enough to impale or blunt enough to crush.

BANG! BOOM!

The sounds were loud and thunderous, but the visuals were lame and disappointing. Akiro struck from all sorts of angles and places, even going back and charging forward using many means to increase his speed and focusing all his power into one point, but the psychic barrier was always there and it was always unfazed.

Meanwhile, Kaizer adopted a posture of ponderance the entire time, analyzing how best to handle his next opponents, not even focused on the current fight.
