Psychic Overlord-Chapter 127: Gold Division
Chapter 127: Gold Division
As the final sounds of raucous laughter died down and the psychic wreckage of the Divine Cognitive Order was slowly swept offstage, the entire stadium shifted in mood.
Lights dimmed once more, but this time, when they rose again, it was with a golden hue that seemed to radiate power and drive.
A new emblem shimmered overhead, being the insignia of the Gold Division.
Lysandra’s voice returned, now carrying a little bit of reverence.
"Ladies and gentlemen... the time has come to welcome the Gold Division! Where seasoned warriors clash, where reputation is forged, and where the line between student and soldier begins to blur!"
The crowd clapped with anticipation as the arena reshaped itself again, this time adopting the form of a vast floating platform hovering above a projected abyss. Platforms spiraled out in complex terrain formations, giving a vertical edge to the fights to come, known to most gamers as: hazard stages!
Above, the screen flickered to display over fifty names, each one with more than a few recorded feats, tournament placements from previous years, or Esper Commission mission achievements.
"These are not hopefuls, they are the proven. These are the survivors of live missions, bearers of B and C-ranked esper abilities, and the ones already sponsored by factions, mercenary corps, or family empires." Lysandra continued.
Hector Dais and Lisa sauntered onto the stage in tandem with the rest of the Gold Division fellows, both of them standing with full confidence as camera drones immediately focused on them, especially given their affiliation with Kaizer.
Lisa flicked her curly orange hair and struck a provocative pose, her red-trimmed battle jacket flowing behind her, while Hector lazily waved at a few admirers with his signature pink Hawaiian shirt open and untucked. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"They really let fashion criminals into Gold Division now?" Rina muttered with a grin.
Sophia didn’t look up. "They’re still strong. Just chaotic."
"Next, a firestorm of rivalry ignites as our first Gold Division match begins!" Lysandra announced, pointing dramatically to the screen.
The crowd cheered as the names of the first match flickered across the arena screen:
[Axel Moreno vs. Petra Fong]
Axel, a C-ranked esper specializing in explosive resonance, immediately launched the first attack with a seismic stomp that turned the floor into cracked plates. Petra, a kinetic barrier esper, absorbed his momentum and returned it tenfold by shunting the shockwaves into the arena walls, creating a thunderous concussive rebound.
The match ended with an aerial clash, Petra using redirected momentum to strike from above while Axel detonated midair, so both were downed, but Petra was declared the victor by survival margin.
"Now that’s Gold Division grit." Sophia commented.
"They’re seasoned alright, half of these guys already have part-time Commission contracts." Roland added.
"And now... something different," Lysandra teased as the next names loaded.
[Lisa vs. Jericho Yuen]
The crowd leaned forward, because this one was anticipated.
Lisa entered with a slow strut while swaying her hips in her usual overly provocative fashion, her orange hair bouncing as she flipped it and blew a kiss to the crowd.
Her opponent, Jericho, wore reinforced armor and carried a halberd made of energy, looking unimpressed by Lisa’s behavior.
"Begin!"
The moment the bell sounded, Lisa vanished... or rather, she launched into the air with such velocity that she disappeared from sight, riding wind currents she summoned.
Jericho braced himself with his arm as the air howled, his eyes darting around to find his enemy.
"Classic Aerokinesis. My girl doesn’t just use wind, she becomes the storm!" Hector said with pride.
"I guess you could say that ’she is the storm that is approaching,’ right?" Rina joked with wide eyes, hoping to see others laugh, but became sullen when no one did.
On the battlefield, Lisa circled above like a wind sylph, then descended in a spiral of slicing gusts that cut into the floor. Jericho tried to block with his energy halberd, but Lisa twisted behind him mid-air, flicked her fingers, and caused a wind spear to slam into his back at point-blank.
He staggered, but then retaliated with a spinning cleave, only for Lisa to somersault midair and land behind him again, her speed even making some higher rank espers feel wary.
"Too slow, you can’t satisfy me like that, boy." She teased, then sent a cyclone pulse through his armor that flipped him end over end across the arena.
Jericho crashed into the ground face-first with his ass in the air, and countless ’click’ sounds were heard as photos were rapidly taken of this embarrassing moment.
"Winner: Lisa!" Lysandra announced, holding back laughter.
Lisa posed dramatically, hands on hips as her shirt billowed in a conjured breeze, looking like a superhero in a dramatic team-up scene while their theme song played.
Back in the Gold Division platform, Hector clapped slowly. "Flawless, flirty, and fatal. That’s my Lisa."
"Up next! The rising tide of the Dais family! Heir to the aquatic flow! Let’s welcome, Hector Dais!" Lysandra called with bright eyes.
The crowd cheered louder than expected, as Hector’s family name was known within esper politics as a rising Newcomer Clan.
His opponent was Remi Ka, a magnetic armor esper.
"Let’s keep it clean, boys." Lysandra said as the timer began.
Hector extended both arms, allowing water to burst from his cuffs in whips, carving shallow lines into the arena before flowing upward and curling into shapes.
’B-rank Aquakinesis, huh? He’s refined it to pre-molded forms. That’s rare at this level.’ Kaizer noted quietly.
Remi countered by polarizing his armor, sending repulsion waves that cracked the floor, but Hector grinned in response.
"You’re tough, buddy, but let’s see if you float."
Hector made a gesture and summoned a rotating sphere of high-density water under Remi’s boots then suddenly reversed the flow, turning it into a whirlpool midair.
Remi was spun like laundry, his magnetic grip useless in the fluid trap.
A sharp snap of Hector’s fingers, and a tentacle of water slammed down from above, pinning Remi flat onto the arena floor, leaving him spread-eagle.
"Winner: Hector Dais!"
The audience gave a mixed reaction with some clapping, while others were too surprised by how clean the win had been.
"Hmph? Just a B-ranker, huh?" Hector adjusted his collar while exiting, referring to an offhand comment Rina once made long ago.
Rina raised an eyebrow. "I stand corrected."
And with that, the Gold Division marched on with dozens of matches flashing by, each showcasing powers from plant control and cryokinesis to sonic bursts and shadow folding, but the names people remembered were the ones with flair, with presence.
And few were as memorable as Hector and Lisa.
[Final Match: Lisa vs. Hector.]
As the names flickered across the screen, the crowd erupted. They had fought side by side before in missions as well as in training and now they were going to clash in public, both uninjured, both flashy, and both well-known.
Even the Special Echelon paused in their chatter as the arena shimmered into a shifting skydome, winds swirling at high altitude with small floating islands of land as the only footing.
Lysandra raised both arms, practically glowing with mischief.
"Oh, ho ho! The Flirty Hurricane versus the Liquid Playboy! Our final match of the Gold Division is a lover’s quarrel disguised as a brawl!"
The crowd burst into laughter and applause.
"I’m gonna kill her." Hector muttered as he entered the arena.
"I’m gonna break his pride." Lisa smirked, cracking her knuckles midair while floating.
"BEGIN!"
Immediately, Hector flooded the nearest platforms, water spiraling up into rings as he launched compressed jets toward Lisa, but she was already in motion, flipping backward and riding the wind between the floating islands, her laughter ringing out like a stormy song.
"You’re slow, Hector!" She teased energetically.
"I’m wearing a shirt, Lisa. It’s cutting down my power." Hector retorted as he sent a geyser spiraling up through one of the platforms, causing Lisa to vault higher into the air.
She retaliated by forming twin blades of wind and flinging them like boomerangs, slicing through the water trails and forcing Hector to move.
"Careful, sleazeball, I just shaved!" Lisa shouted out shamelessly.
Rina cackled. "They flirt like they’re filing insurance claims."
Sophia arched a brow. "He’s using spiral flow redirection mid-cast. That’s... not bad."
In the arena, Hector suddenly dropped one of his constructs, allowing it to break and flood the lower layer.
Lisa laughed, far too early.
The water vaporized upward into mist, and Lisa’s wind caught it.
"You—!" She shouted, realizing.
"Yup! Now you’re wet, just how I like it!" Hector snapped his fingers, and from the mist, dozens of micro-bullets of water shot toward her, riding her own air currents.
Lisa managed to block most but was struck across the back and sent tumbling. She recovered fast, sent a vortex slicing upward, but Hector dodged and swept under her landing with a rising water pillar.
Lisa barely kept her balance, breathing hard.
"Okay, now I’m mad." She said with a growl.
"Oh nooooo." Hector replied flatly.
Lisa took off her jacket.
"Oh shit." Hector said seriously.
Then, the sky exploded as wind roared because Lisa activated her true form, making her movement become invisible, her body wrapped in air, and her voice echo all around the arena like a goddess of tempest.
Hector barely blocked the first few strikes.
"Dang, she’s gone full Tengu Mode!" Roland muttered, eyes wide.
"You know what? Me too." Hector muttered, cracking his knuckles.
He clapped both hands together, forming a spiraling cyclone of water, condensing it into a giant whip that surged toward the sky while Lisa dove from above with a wind drill.
The two collided midair in a massive spiral clash that forced the arena’s shield to activate at full power. Winds howled, water vapor exploded outward, and elements danced across the sky.
Then... silence.
Lisa hovered in the air, panting, clothes torn slightly but smirking while below, Hector was half-submerged in his own water, grinning despite having a split lip.
The match ended with both exhausted after using their final moves, but the judges made the call.
"Winner... by edge of control and sustained technique... Hector Dais!"
The crowd exploded.
Lisa floated down and offered him a hand.
She demanded without any sadness in her voice. "You owe me dinner."
Hector scoffed and dispersed the water. "You’re paying."
Lisa raised an eyebrow in annoyance. "Rude."
They bumped fists as the audience cheered again.
Back at the Titanium Division spectator seats, Maria cracked a rare smile. "They’re definitely ready for Titanium next year."
Sophia adjusted her glasses. "To be honest, they always were."
Even Rina nodded approvingly. "Yeah. Not bad, sleazy and pervy as they are."
As the arena lights dimmed once more, the Gold Division concluded in a less comedic way than the Silver one, but just as momentous.
