Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 788 - 786_1
"Adele," he called softly.
There was still no response from the room.
He gently pushed the door and found it unlocked. He entered; the room was empty. Adele was not there.
He stepped out of Adele’s room and pondered for a moment. He had seen Adele enter the house with his own eyes; she couldn’t have hidden anywhere. She must be somewhere in this house. Where could she be right now?
Glancing at the stairs leading to the rooftop, Noah didn’t hesitate and strode up.
Adele Horne was on the rooftop.
The wind was fierce and biting, chilling to the bone. She stood facing the wind before the railing, her smooth, black hair cascading around her. Her slender figure was a little thinner, making her appear somewhat frail, and the sight made Noah’s heart clench.
She wasn’t wearing much, but standing in the frigid wind, she didn’t feel the cold. She quietly gazed down from the rooftop, letting the cold wind whip against her face and lift her hair. Her long, black hair, tossed by the wind, resembled a shimmering waterfall; it was strikingly beautiful.
"Let me go!" Adele called out softly. Her voice lacked the anger it held six months ago, nor did it carry any warning.
During the six months he had been suddenly gone, she had thought every day about what kind of feelings she held for him. After half a year of contemplation, she realized she did have feelings for him. As for those feelings, she didn’t know where they had begun. The phrase ’love’s origins are unknown’ perfectly described her feelings for Noah. Yet, seeing him again today after six months, she still found it difficult to face him calmly.
"This time, even if you kill me, I won’t let go," Noah said, his voice soft yet firm.
Adele turned in his embrace and glared fiercely at him.
"Adele, I’m back," Noah said deeply.
His large hand, which had been around her waist, moved to gently cradle her face. His voice was laced with concern as he said, "You’ve lost weight. Was it because of me?"
Adele roughly brushed his hand away and said coldly, "Don’t flatter yourself. I simply wanted to improve my figure to make it easier to find a man to marry."
"You’re mine! Who else but me would dare to marry you!" Noah growled suddenly, his domineering aura flaring. She is my woman. Anyone who wants to become a eunuch can try to snatch her away!
"What do you mean by that? Do you think no one wants me? If I want to get married, all I have to do is..." she retorted.
"Adele, if anyone dares to take you from me, I’ll drag you back even if I have to bring a cannon, because you are destined to be mine! In this life and the next, you are Noah Reyes’ woman, my wife! Adele, marry me. Give me and Billy a complete family, please?"
Adele Horne blinked. Is this his idea of a marriage proposal? He didn’t even ask if I forgive him; he just proposed so imperiously.
"I know you’ve suffered a lot of grievances because of me. Trust me, I’ll make it up to you twofold. I will love you and cherish you forever, just like your older brother pampers his wife. Adele, I’m sorry. Can you give me a chance? Can you give our son and me a complete family?" These were the most romantic words Noah Reyes would ever utter in his life, all for the woman standing before him.
"Even though we have a son, I’ve never truly been in love..." Adele murmured softly, her heart beginning to soften.
She could already feel the sincerity of this man’s heart for her, much like her older brother’s devotion to his wife. She wasn’t perfect, at least not as perfect as her sister-in-law. To receive such wholehearted and sincere love from a man... she felt it was a form of compensation from the heavens. The years of grievances, the years of heartache, seemed to lessen.
Noah was eager to take her to the Wedding Chapel immediately. However, hearing her speak so despondently, his heart softened, and he conceded, "I will give you a proper courtship."
"I don’t even know..." Adele Horne trailed off, not finishing her sentence.
At this moment, her heart was still in turmoil. Just seeing Noah threw her world into chaos. Her emotional world had always been a blank slate. Even though her son was already five years old, she had never truly been in a relationship. Noah... she had to admit, she did have feelings for him.
RING, RING, RING...
The sudden ringing of a phone was jarring. It was unclear who could be so inconsiderate as to call Adele Horne at such a moment, while she was in the midst of a charged romantic encounter.
Adele Horne pulled out her phone and glanced at the screen. It was Julia’s number.
She was slightly stunned. Before she could react, Noah had already taken the phone from her hand and pressed the answer button. "What is it?" he asked, his voice deep.
From the other end, Julia said, "Noah, let Adele take the call."
Julia wasn’t surprised in the least to hear Noah’s voice answering Adele’s phone. He must have assumed another man was calling Adele and would naturally answer it before she could.
Noah handed the phone back to Adele and silently stepped back a few paces, giving her space to take the call.
"Sister-in-law," Adele said into the phone. She didn’t quite understand why Julia would call her when they were all in the same house.
"Adele," Julia replied. She was nestled against Glades Horne’s chest, holding the phone in one hand and a cup of milk—which Glades had just heated for her—in the other, speaking comfortably.
"Hmm," Adele responded. She wondered what her sister-in-law, whom her older brother had seemingly molded into quite the schemer, wanted to say.
"You love Noah," Julia stated simply.
She took a sip of her milk. It was the perfect temperature, neither too hot nor too cold. The milk had a slightly stronger, gamey taste because it was genuinely fresh—Glades went to considerable effort to procure it for her daily.
