Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 612 I Miss You, Dad Potential (2)_1
It wasn’t until today that Big Brother knocked out a woman and carried her back—that woman was the one who had handed the baby girl over to her, the child’s mother. Now that Big Brother had returned, she could leave the house; otherwise, who would take care of that beautiful baby?
She felt that Big Brother and that woman had a story, and she was happy for her own big brother.
But she never meddled in Big Brother’s affairs, and right now, she only wanted to find James Horne.
Rebecca Hughes knocked on the door for a while and muttered to herself. Then, thinking James really was still asleep, she turned to walk to the elevator. She planned to get something to eat from the lobby first, fill her stomach before anything else. As she turned, she suddenly seemed to remember something, and she spoke through the door again, "James, I don’t know if you’re sleeping like a pig, or if you can even hear me, but are you hungry? I’m going downstairs to get something to eat. Do you want anything? I can order something for you."
"Do you want to see whether I sleep like a pig?" The door suddenly opened, and James leaned against the frame with his arms crossed. He looked at Rebecca Hughes indifferently, but the words he spoke carried an ambiguously teasing tone.
See if he slept like a pig?
How could she? Unless she slept with him.
BOOM. Rebecca Hughes suddenly blushed.
Gazing at her suddenly flushed, pretty face, James blinked. Why is she blushing for no reason?
He had no idea what he’d just said.
"If I slept like a pig, all your rambling here would’ve been a waste, dummy!" James uncrossed his arms, stepped away from the door, and returned to his room. Rebecca automatically followed him in. He hadn’t gone far when she quickly overtook him, plopping down on the sofa. On the coffee table was a plate of complimentary breakfast pastries from the hotel, untouched. He didn’t like these free breakfasts and usually ordered something else he preferred. But these complimentary pastries were a special offering from the hotel, although, in reality, their cost was already factored into the room price.
Everyone knew this, yet nobody bothered to talk about it—it’s the same with every hotel.
In this world, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
"So you have food in your room; no wonder you’re still here at this hour. I’m starving. You don’t mind if I eat some, do you?" While Rebecca casually placed her bag on the sofa, she reached out to grab a pastry. A large hand swooped in, capturing her small one.
She followed the large hand up to its owner, feigning surprise as she asked, "James, we’ve known each other for quite some time now; we’re friends, right? You can’t be so petty as to begrudge me a pastry, can you?"
James’s handsome face stayed cool, his gaze steady and unchanging. His lips parted slightly as he said indifferently, "How old are you? Don’t you know to wash your hands before eating? You’re acting like a little imp. Go on, wash your hands, then eat."
Rebecca blinked and then, feeling a bit embarrassed, let out a sheepish giggle. She withdrew her hand from his and hurried off to wash them.
Once she had gone to wash her hands, James looked down at his own large hand. Hers were very soft.
Before long, Rebecca had washed her hands and returned, sitting back down on the sofa without reservation. She took the plate of pastries and started eating. Watching her eat, James knew she was genuinely hungry, so he considerately poured her a warm glass of water, settling down not too far from her, watching her eat with cool detachment.
When she had eaten enough to mostly satisfy her hunger, he finally asked indifferently, "How did you get here?"
"I drove."
James rolled his eyes. If she hadn’t driven, what else could she have done—walked?
"Who told you I was here?"
"Julia. The day after Julia had her baby, I went to see her at the hospital. Then she pried your whereabouts from your brother’s mouth and sent me to find you. James, you’re going to be an uncle. Julia’s child is really cute. But seeing your brother holding the baby scared me; my heart almost stopped! When he was rocking the child, I was so afraid he’d accidentally toss the baby out."
So Julia really had her baby.
A fleeting tenderness crossed James’s eyes, but he quickly steadied his emotions and asked, "Is Julia’s baby a boy or a girl?"
"Why do you call her ’Julia’? She’s your sister-in-law. Shouldn’t you be calling her that? But James, I’ve noticed that besides being warm and affectionate towards your brother and sister-in-law, you seem cold and indifferent towards other family members. Julia had a boy, a spitting image of your brother; he’s sure to be a lady-killer when he grows up." Rebecca set down the plate and cocked her head, her pretty eyes blinking as she stared at James intently. "Your nephew actually resembles you too because you and your brother look so much alike."
The child resembled him!
James’s heart immediately softened like a pond in spring, filled with affection for the nephew he had not yet met.
Yes, he and his brother looked very much alike, so naturally, the nephew resembled him too. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
He didn’t answer Rebecca’s question. His past acquaintance with Julia, growing up together—he didn’t feel it was necessary to share that with Rebecca.
"This place is beautiful; your room has a great location. You can see the sea from the balcony. I love the sea the most." After filling her stomach, Rebecca made herself at home as she walked around James’s room, examining the surroundings. Returning from the balcony, she suddenly noticed that the quilt wasn’t properly folded from when James had gotten out of bed, so she went over to tidy up his quilt and pillows.
Watching her straighten the quilt on his bed, James’s gaze flickered slightly—just a flicker—then it held no other meaning.
"When are you going back?"
"What’s it to you?"
"Nothing, but I’m thinking of having a holiday here too. If you’re going to stay on, it would be nice to have some company." Rebecca giggled, her beautiful eyes sparkling like stars in the night sky.
James didn’t say anything.
After a moment, he finally asked, "Julia... how long has it been since my nephew was born?"
"Almost half a month now. Your sister has had a baby too. It’s double happiness for the Horne family. It’s being talked about everywhere."
James fell silent again.
