Rachel Bailey, persuaded by her words, laughed as well, no longer dwelling on how her mother-in-law had treated her earlier. She said with a smile, "You're picking out a daughter-in-law for your son so soon? Aren't you afraid I'm too short and plain, and that my daughter might turn out plain too? Both you and your husband are so good-looking; your children will surely be attractive. I'm afraid your prince won't fancy my ugly duckling."

"Who puts themselves down like that? You're not tall, but you're certainly not plain. Men's tastes can be unpredictable. If you really have a daughter, who knows? She might be quite sought-after in the future."

The two women, both new mothers, found themselves chatting about arranging marriages for their children, though it was all in jest. Who could know what the future held?

They were both open-minded parents and wouldn't meddle in their children's love lives.

Rachel Bailey stayed at the Horne family home for most of the day. After dinner there, she continued chatting with Julia Bluen, Adele Horne, and Ruby Bluen. Except for Ruby Bluen, the other three, including herself, were pregnant, so naturally, babies were the main topic of conversation.

Rachel Bailey's unhappiness had long since vanished, but she had overlooked one person—her dear husband, Hansen Ruiz. She had even forgotten to call him.

When Hansen Ruiz returned home after attending to some important business, he expected, as usual, to see his beloved wife and the nanny good-naturedly competing over chores. Rachel Bailey was naturally someone who couldn't stay idle. Despite having a nanny, she would still vie with her to cook, saying she loved preparing meals for Hansen Ruiz.

The nanny had privately complained to Hansen Ruiz more than once that Madam Ruiz was taking over their jobs, making them feel quite awkward.

"Rachel, I'm back."

As soon as he got out of the car, Hansen Ruiz headed towards the house, laden with bags, and called out loudly.

Usually, when he arrived home and Rachel Bailey heard the car, she would come out to greet him with a smile.

But not today.

"Rachel! Honey, I'm back! Come and see what I've bought for our baby! All sorts of fun toys I picked out myself from your friend's Toy Company. I'm sure our baby will love them. Rachel! Honey!"

Carrying the bags, Hansen Ruiz entered the living room and casually piled everything onto the sofa, instantly covering it.

Receiving no response, he felt a bit puzzled.

"Sir, you're back. Madam went out and hasn't returned yet," the nanny said, emerging when she heard his calls.

Out?

Hansen Ruiz frowned. Rachel Bailey rarely went out at this time of day. She usually went out early in the morning and always took a nap at noon. Where could she have gone?

"Where did Madam go? Did she say?" Hansen Ruiz asked calmly.

The nanny shook her head. "We asked, but Madam didn't answer. She looked unhappy, though, as if something had upset her."

His Rachel was unhappy? Had someone wronged her?

He turned his head, glanced outside, and then asked, "Did the old lady from the villa across the street visit today?"

"No."

No?

His mother hadn't visited, so who could have upset his Rachel? Who could have made her feel wronged?

RING, RING, RING…

His phone rang.

Hansen Ruiz took out his phone and saw it was Glades Horne calling.

He pressed the green button, and Glades Horne's deep voice came through. "Ruiz, your wife has monopolized my Julia. Don't you think you should come and pack her up to take home?"

"Rachel's with you?"

"Mm."

"I'll come and get her right away."

"Mm."

Glades Horne merely hummed in response.

"However…" Glades Horne stood on the balcony, watching the women engrossed in conversation. He had even asked the housekeeper to discreetly remind Julia Bluen several times that it was time for her nap, but Julia Bluen seemed to have forgotten. Glades Horne felt awkward interrupting the group of four women, so he resorted to calling Hansen Ruiz to come fetch Rachel Bailey and return his Julia Bluen to him.

"However, what?" Hansen Ruiz sensed he had more to say and pressed him.

"Nothing. I'm hanging up." Ultimately, Glades Horne decided against prying. He didn't want to ask why Rachel Bailey had arrived looking upset or why she had burst into tears upon seeing Julia Bluen.

He made it a point not to meddle in the personal lives of his friends and subordinates.

Hansen Ruiz reached the Horne residence as quickly as possible.

Seeing Hansen Ruiz, Rachel Bailey suddenly remembered she had been away from home for a long time and hadn't even called him. A little embarrassed, she asked, "Have you eaten?"

Taking a few steps to stand before her, Hansen Ruiz looked her over from head to toe and back again. After confirming she wasn't hurt, he was about to relax when he noticed her eyes were still slightly red, as if she had cried recently.

Recalling what the nanny had said, and Glades Horne's hesitant words, Hansen Ruiz knew she must have been wronged somehow. He hid his concern, put on a dejected expression, and said, "I came home and didn't see you. I lost my appetite and couldn't eat. I'm still hungry."

Rachel Bailey blushed, tugged lightly at his sleeve, and whispered, "Don't be so dramatic. Isn't there staff at home? They should have dinner ready."

He took her hand, pulled her to his side, and wrapped an arm around her waist. Then, he addressed the stern-faced Julia Bluen, "I'm taking Rachel Bailey home now. We'll visit another time." He needed to find out what exactly had happened.

Julia Bluen had never given him a cold look before, but now she was scowling at him, which made the situation seem even more suspicious.

"No need to see us out." Julia Bluen, keeping her expression stern, replied coolly.

As Hansen Ruiz, with his arm around Rachel Bailey, turned to leave, Julia Bluen suddenly said, "Ruiz, Rachel Bailey is my best and most important friend. You married her. If you can't protect her, tell me. I will protect her for you."

Hansen Ruiz turned back at once. Though his handsome face hinted at an impending storm, it still bore its usual gentle expression. He smiled warmly and said, "Though I, Hansen Ruiz, may seem incompetent, I am still capable of protecting my own wife. Thank you for your kind offer, CEO's wife." Julia Bluen's words were a stinging irony to him.
