Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 591: Grievance (1)_1
Glades Horne descended from the top floor to the first floor, pausing at the Main House door. A soft look in his eyes and a smile on his lips, he watched his excited wife. He had stopped spreading the cheese powder, so the "snow" soon ceased to fall.
The Courtyard was still blanketed in white.
Creating fake snow was easy, but cleaning it up was a bit troublesome. However, with many servants in the Horne Family, the task was completed rather quickly.
"Glades, how did you do it?" Julia asked, walking back to him, her face beaming with surprise and delight.
"It's cheese powder. When cooled and scattered from a height, it becomes like fake snow," Glades explained with a faint smile.
"How did you manage 'Snow in June'? People who don't know any better might think some major disaster or great injustice had befallen the Horne Family," the elderly lady commented with a sidelong glance at her precious grandson but laughed along. "Fortunately, she was open-minded; had she been more traditional, a stern lecture would have been unavoidable."
Glades didn't answer, just looked at Julia.
He didn't believe that 'Snow in June' signified any great disaster or injustice. Actual instances of snow in June had occurred, a natural marvel. As for why it happened, its occurrence was linked to humanity's destruction of the environment—a phenomenon of nature retaliating against humans. Regardless, his was fake snow, meant only to satisfy his wife's curiosity.
"Grandma, I thought it was too hot yesterday, so I had a sudden whim and wondered what 'Snow in June' would truly look like, and if it would be beautiful. If you set aside the story of Dou E and just consider the phenomenon, it's undeniably a beautiful sight," Julia explained with a smile.
Perhaps others, upon hearing 'Snow in June,' would think it unlucky or inauspicious, but she felt and thought differently. This was Glades' kindness to her; a single word from her, and he would find a way to make it happen. He was worth her loving for all eternity.
"Honestly, you two... As a couple, one of you comes up with the most whimsical ideas, and the other always indulges them. Well, now that we've seen it, your curiosity has been satisfied, and the doting husband has had his fill of spoiling, let's clean up that cheese powder," the elderly lady said with a laugh. She had long grown accustomed to her precious grandson's habit of spoiling his wife.
Her precious grandson dared to create 'Snow in June'; what wouldn't he dare to do?
Glades called over Uncle Ying and instructed him to arrange for the servants to clean up the cheese powder in the Courtyard.
The servants immediately got busy, starting to clear away the fake snow.
Some servants, skeptical that it was really cheese powder, dipped their fingers into the "snow" that had landed on the flowers and plants, tasted it, and then exclaimed in surprise, "It really is cheese powder!"
Those who had believed Glades from the start rolled their eyes at the doubters. "The Young Master already told you it was cheese powder."
The skeptics could only murmur in agreement.
Many hands make light work, and soon all the cheese powder was swept clean. The entire Courtyard was once again restored to its original state, as if by magic.
After the cheese powder was cleared, the morning returned to its typical, uneventful self.
The morning sun continued to rise higher, and the sunlight grew more intense.
June wasn't actually the hottest month; July was the hottest.
But as the sunlight became fiercer, nobody wanted to go out. They all hid in their little homes. The servants of the Horne Family had good living conditions; their dormitories were air-conditioned. After their chores in the summer, they could retreat to their dormitories and enjoy the cool air. Such treatment was rare, highlighting the Horne Family's considerable wealth and their indifference to the electricity costs.
「In the South Hill District, Waterside New Village.」
Mrs. Alwin Ruiz sat in her car, the air conditioning on, oblivious to the heat wave outside.
Her car was parked at the entrance of the village, as if waiting for someone.
Floyd Thomas sat in the driver's seat, his hands on the steering wheel, motionless.
"What time is it? Why isn't Rachel Bailey back yet? The sun is already so high," Mrs. Alwin Ruiz muttered, growing impatient as Rachel Bailey had yet to appear. She peered at the blazing sun outside the window. She wasn't worried about Rachel Bailey herself, but rather the baby in Rachel's womb. That baby was the eldest grandchild of her Ruiz family, after all!
Ever since Rachel became pregnant, Mrs. Alwin Ruiz had been constantly lecturing her to stop busying herself with her business and rest properly at home. But Rachel let her words go in one ear and out the other, completely disregarding her wishes.
Rachel was now nearly five months pregnant, and her belly was showing.
Normally, Hansen Ruiz would accompany Rachel Bailey when she went out in the morning. Today, however, he had some business to attend to and hadn't gone with her, which was why Mrs. Alwin Ruiz was waiting here for Rachel to appear.
Hansen had forbidden his mother from moving into his villa, not wanting to worsen the conflict between his mother and wife. He hadn't expected his mother to actually buy a villa nearby and move into Waterside New Village as well—right opposite his, no less! Every day, she would drop by uninvited to mooch meals, making him desperately want to demolish the villa across the street.
"Hansen, she's your mother, after all," Rachel would tell him. "Besides, while she might say things to undermine me, her actions haven't actually caused me any further harm. Just let it be. If Mom wants to visit, let her. If she wants to stay for a meal, let her eat."
Rachel didn't want Hansen to clash with his mother again because of her. If that happened, she would seem like even more of a jinx in her mother-in-law's eyes. Her mother-in-law might even think she was deliberately sowing discord and trying to drive a wedge between mother and son.
"Sweetheart, I want to hear you call me 'husband' just once," Hansen Ruiz said, wrapping his arms around her waist and laughing softly, his remark completely unrelated to what she had been saying.
His mother only engaged in verbal skirmishes with Rachel; he wasn't blind to that. Otherwise, he would have demolished the villa across the street long ago.
"'That's so cheesy! Look at Julia and Glades—as lovey-dovey as they are, they still call each other by their names," Rachel retorted, her cheeks flushing slightly. She was used to calling Hansen Ruiz by his full name.
Glades Horne, see? This is all your fault! Hansen grumbled inwardly. But aloud, he said, "Sweetheart, other people are other people, and we are us. We can't just copy everything others do, can we? How boring would that be? Different people have different thoughts and different ways of life; everyone has their own individuality. Come on, call me 'husband.'"
