Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 589 Spoiling the Wife Addiction (4)_1
So she still insisted on walking around the Courtyard every day; she moved around less outside. She felt like a penguin when she walked.
Glades Horne, the father-to-be, was even more nervous than Julia, the mother-to-be. He had been particularly busy with work lately, often staying late at the company almost every day to handle business matters. He hoped to finish all his affairs so that once Julia gave birth and was in her postpartum confinement, he could be by her side constantly.
Now, when the baby moved, they could feel its little hands and feet, and even see it kicking her belly high up.
Life is indeed so magical.
The interval for prenatal check-ups had long since been changed to once a week. Glades Horne always accompanied her, sometimes with his sister Adele and sister-in-law Ruby Bluen. While taking care of his beloved wife, Glades also didn't neglect his sister, doing his best to ensure she felt warmth from her family.
Julia's fetal position was normal, but Adele's was not yet correct. The doctor instructed her on how to perform self-correction techniques.
June 1st was Children's Day, and its arrival also marked the beginning of the year's hottest months. The weather was fine that day. After her nap, Julia, with her large belly, walked out of the Main House. As soon as she stepped outside, the myriad rays of sunlight pouring down from high above stung her eyes, and waves of heat washed over her. Compared to the air-conditioned interior, the outdoors felt like an oven.
Summer in T City was unbearably hot, with outdoor temperatures soaring as high as thirty-eight degrees Celsius.
Standing at the entrance of the Main House, looking up at the blazing sun, she couldn't help but say, "This wretched weather is unbearable!" She was wearing a sleeveless maternity dress but still felt incredibly hot.
"Madam, if you're feeling hot, why don't you go back inside? Let's skip our walk," Sister Hong said with a smile, standing beside her. Sister Hong was now Julia's closest personal servant, an arrangement made by Mila Anderson. The grandmother-to-be, Mila, was just as anxious as Glades Horne; she wished she could be by Julia's side at all times.
Scarlett Taylor also visited the Horne Family daily. While concerned about Julia, she was even more worried about Ruby Bluen. Ruby had been married for six months with no sign of pregnancy, and Scarlett fretted that Ruby might be unable to conceive. Privately, Scarlett considered taking Ruby for a medical check-up, but she finally breathed a sigh of relief after Ruby told her the reason she wasn't pregnant yet.
Sovia Morris now treated Ruby Bluen exceptionally well, cherishing her as if she were her own daughter. After all, Sovia had always wanted a daughter but had only given birth to her son, Marcel Horne. Any past displeasure she held towards Ruby had long since been overcome by Ruby's charm.
Although Sovia also longed to become a grandmother sooner, with Ruby not yet showing any signs of pregnancy, she refrained from asking, not wanting to pressure her.
Her son and daughter-in-law had overcome so many hardships and missed six years together, but they were finally a family, blessed by the heavens, Sovia thought. Surely, providence wouldn't be cruel enough to torment this loving couple any further. A baby would come, sooner or later.
"Next year on this day, I'll be able to happily celebrate Children's Day with my baby," Julia continued, following her train of thought.
"By this time next year, the young master will probably be walking already," Sister Hong chimed in.
Stroking her very round belly, Julia smiled. "Books say babies usually don't walk until they're over a year old, right?"
"Not necessarily. These days, living conditions are better, and if a baby gets good nutrition, some can walk as early as nine months old. But in the countryside, some superstitious old folks say that a child who walks before they're a year old is destined for a hard life. That's just unscientific."
Julia nodded, then looked up at the sun again and lamented, "It's already three in the afternoon, and it's still this hot! It's unbearable! What am I going to do during my postpartum confinement?" A woman in confinement can't use air conditioning. In this wretched weather, confinement will be torture for her.
"Don't worry, Madam. A month will pass quickly."
"No matter how quickly it passes, it's still one day at a time."
She'd heard that during confinement, you couldn't wash your hair or indulge in cold showers like usual.
Her hair was quite long now. She already felt uncomfortable if she didn't wash it every other day. If she couldn't wash it for a whole month, she'd probably scratch her scalp raw!
Just the thought made Julia feel that postpartum confinement would be like being imprisoned. Terrifying!
"Oh, if only it would snow! Sister Hong, have you ever seen snow in June? I wonder what 'June snow' would look like as a scene. Is it beautiful? I'd really love to see it," Julia said suddenly.
Sister Hong chuckled. "Madam, 'snow in June' is just something you hear about in stories. In reality, I've certainly never seen it. But I imagine it would be very beautiful."
Julia smiled and changed the subject.
After strolling in the Courtyard for a while, Julia had a private chat with Ruby Bluen. Only then did she return to the Courtyard to sit with the old lady, enjoying the rare coolness in the shade of the trees.
While Julia kept the old lady company, Sister Hong quietly withdrew.
"Qi Hong."
Just as Sister Hong had left Julia's side and was heading back to her own quarters, Uncle Ying called out to her.
"Uncle Ying."
Recognizing her superior, Sister Hong stopped and offered a faint smile.
Uncle Ying walked up to Sister Hong. His gaze first flickered past her toward Julia in the distance for a few moments before he asked, "What did Madam say today? Roughly how many sentences? How was her mood? What did she eat? Tell me, so I can make a record. The Young Master will be back soon." Even when busy, the Young Master usually returned home around four-thirty in the evening.
Sister Hong then recounted what Julia had said, approximately how many sentences, her mood, and so on, telling Uncle Ying everything. When repeating Julia's rather fanciful remark, Sister Hong smiled and said, "Uncle Ying, Madam said something quite odd just now. She asked if I'd ever seen snow in June. She said she wondered if 'June snow' was beautiful and that she'd really love to see it."
"Snow in June?"
Uncle Ying paused, then smiled as well. "Madam probably just misses seeing snow. But in this June weather, it's hot enough to kill you! We haven't had a single drop of rain, let alone snow. Besides, it doesn't even snow here in winter, never mind in June. If it snowed here in June, wouldn't things be even worse up north? We'd be talking tens of degrees below zero, wouldn't we?"
"Heh, yes, Madam was just saying it casually."
