Chapter 574: Chapter 574: Passing by Without Meeting (2)_1

This old hag! Can’t she be even more offensive?

Rachel Bailey had finished preparing breakfast, turned around, and glared at Mrs. Ruiz.

Did she marry Hansen Ruiz for money? This old hag just couldn’t change her condescending nature, thinking everyone in the world had to rely on the Ruiz Family to survive. She acted as if she were the queen and the rest of the world her servile subjects.

"Why are you glaring at me? I hit the nail on the head, didn’t I? I saw through you the moment I laid eyes on you. I knew you were after money. I offered you five million to take the money and leave, but you refused. It wasn’t because you had any pride; it was because you knew Hansen’s worth was far more than five million... MMPH!"

Rachel Bailey came out with the prepared breakfast, placed it on the dining table, then quickly forked a piece of sushi and stuffed it into Mrs. Ruiz’s mouth, saying with a feigned smile, "Mom, try this sushi and see how it tastes."

Mrs. Ruiz’s eyes bulged, wider than brass bells. This country bumpkin has no manners! Shoving food into my mouth while I’m talking!

She hastily spat out the sushi, her face darkening.

"Rachel Bailey..."

"Mom, I’m still young, and my hearing is quite good. You don’t need to shout like that; it’s very tiring. Don’t exhaust yourself. See? Look how considerate I am of you. If Hansen had married someone else, perhaps no one would be this considerate of you," Rachel said coolly.

"And another thing..." Rachel suddenly leaned close to Mrs. Ruiz. Her bright, large eyes, like two black grapes, and her ordinary face were nearly touching Mrs. Ruiz’s. With a twinkle in her eyes and a faint smile, she said, "Mom, you can go upstairs and ask your dear Hansen how much of his money I’ve spent since marrying him. I didn’t marry him for his money. If it were for money, I wouldn’t have married him at all. How much do I earn in a day? Mom, I’d be happy to calculate it for you. Currently, vendors from three different food markets and poultry stall owners buy from me. My daily income from vegetables is over ten thousand, and from poultry, it’s also over ten thousand. Add to that factories and restaurants, which bring in another ten thousand plus. So, in a day, I earn almost fifty thousand. After deducting costs and workers’ wages, my net profit is nearly thirty thousand. Don’t underestimate my vegetables and poultry. I have many sales channels and a large volume, so I earn a lot."

These earnings were more than enough for her daily expenses, especially since she was naturally frugal. Though the meals she prepared were diverse and delicious, she always bought common, everyday ingredients; it was her skill and ingenuity that allowed her to create such a variety of tasty dishes.

Her income was far less than Hansen’s, but she was self-sufficient, relying on no one. Moreover, she had never exploited Hansen’s fame to build her own River Mountain.

She had always been a woman of modest means but lofty aspirations.

A daily income of thirty thousand might be a considerable sum for an ordinary person, but to Mrs. Ruiz, it was practically pocket change. Stumped by Rachel’s words, Mrs. Ruiz opened her mouth several times to retort but ultimately couldn’t muster a response.

She had to admit, this daughter-in-law she had always disapproved of had the potential to be a formidable businesswoman. The city was large, with numerous small restaurants, food markets, and small to medium-sized enterprises. If Rachel could convert all of them into her clients, her income would become quite substantial. Within a few years, she could become a billionaire. She had to concede that the business path Rachel had chosen, while seemingly unprofitable at first glance, was actually the most lucrative.

"You’re sharp-tongued, alright. Your mouth is your most valuable asset," Mrs. Ruiz retorted after a long pause.

"Mom, do you know something? I used to wonder why I had such a sharp tongue, but now I understand," Rachel said teasingly, pushing Mrs. Ruiz’s favorite breakfast dish towards her.

"Why?" Mrs. Ruiz asked instinctively.

"It’s specifically to deal with you," Rachel replied with a mocking laugh.

"You... you... You’ll be the death of me! You’re deliberately trying to infuriate me just so you can waltz right into the Ruiz Family mansion!" Mrs. Ruiz’s face turned ashen with rage at Rachel’s teasing words.

Their daily verbal battles were always this intense.

"Exactly! That’s why you absolutely mustn’t let me anger you to death. You should live a long and healthy life, to be a hundred years old, understand? Breakfast is getting cold. Hurry up and eat. I bet you’re so hungry your stomach is practically caving in," Rachel giggled, urging her mother-in-law to eat quickly.

"It’s always like this. You slap me twice, hard, then offer me two pieces of candy," Mrs. Ruiz grumbled, though she had stopped arguing.

During their verbal spars, she was always the one who lost. Whenever Rachel won, she would immediately show concern for her, making Mrs. Ruiz feel genuinely infuriated yet, at the same time, truly cared for.

"But you enjoy it, don’t you?" Rachel retorted. "I’m going to call Floyd Thomas in for breakfast, and then I’ll go upstairs to wake Hansen." She didn’t sit down but turned and headed out to the main hall.

"Alright, fine. I’ll eat first then; I really am hungry. Your cooking isn’t bad, actually. I think you could even go into the catering business; your culinary skills are certainly up to par. Wait, who did you say you’re going upstairs to call? Hansen? Wasn’t he on a business trip? He’s back? When?" Mrs. Ruiz began to eat the Western-style breakfast her daughter-in-law had prepared. Truth be told, Rachel’s cooking was the only thing she genuinely appreciated about her. Upon hearing Rachel’s last words, she nearly jumped out of her seat.

"He got back in the early hours of yesterday morning. Hasn’t Floyd told you yet?" Rachel replied without giving it much thought.

At her words, Mrs. Ruiz’s expression changed instantly.

Hansen was back!

Hansen’s return meant she was about to be kicked out by him again.

Of all the mothers in the world, she had to be the most pathetic, always being driven away by her own son!

She didn’t want to return to A City, not now. Rachel was pregnant with her first grandchild! She absolutely had to stay here until the baby was born. Then, she would take her grandson back to the Ruiz Family, raise him herself, and ensure he received her kind of education. That way, he would grow up to be as successful as his father.

Accustomed to being autocratic, Mrs. Ruiz was fixated on molding her grandson into the next titan of the business world.
