Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 572: Hard Work (2)_1
Adele Horne gave a faint smile. "Is my brother very terrifying to you?"
Flynn Walker immediately nodded.
It was rumored that the eldest son of the Horne family was unpredictable and naturally commanding, a significant figure wherever he went, lofty and above the rest. Today, upon meeting him, Flynn realized that the man was far more frightening than the rumors suggested.
That sharp glare was something few could withstand, and his fault-finding, crushing words were even harder to bear.
"You’re scared of my brother, yet you still want to develop a relationship with me? Aren’t you afraid of being glared to death by him every time? While matters like love and developing a relationship should concern only the two of us, my brother is my family. He’s someone you’ll have to interact with. I really don’t like the idea of my husband being a man who is scared of my brother. I also think my brother wouldn’t like it if his only brother-in-law broke out in a cold sweat just from seeing him. So, Mr. Walker, we’re not suitable for each other. Thank you for your interest," Adele very practically pointed out the most realistic issue.
Regardless of whether their relationship could develop or progress, this practical issue was something that could not be overlooked.
Now, Adele was no longer the person she used to be. She had learned something important from Julia’s situation: marriage wasn’t just about the couple. It also involved merging with each other’s family and friends—an unavoidable aspect.
She didn’t think Flynn Walker was bad. He didn’t mind her being a ’wilted flower’ and even carrying a child whose father was unknown. For this, she was grateful to him, but gratitude was far from enough.
"Miss Horne, those are not problems. I can overcome them. Just give me a chance to care for you, to cherish and protect you. Giving me a chance is also giving yourself a chance," Flynn said somewhat eagerly.
Adele Horne laughed. She pushed out her belly slightly—it was already over three months, almost four—and then, caressing the gentle swell, she asked Flynn Walker with a smile, "Mr. Walker, what about the child? I already have someone else’s child in my womb. I don’t even know who the father is. Does that not bother you? The child has no blood relation to you. Can you truly not mind it and willingly raise another man’s child as your own?"
"I can do it. I will definitely treat your child as my own and love him dearly," Flynn said sincerely, believing he had a strong capacity for acceptance.
Adele Horne looked at him, saw the sincerity on his face. Indeed, he was a mild and considerate man. But even if he could accept the child, she still didn’t want to develop a relationship with him because she had no feelings for him.
A moment later, Adele Horne sighed softly. "I don’t have any feelings for you," she said.
A look of disappointment flashed across Flynn Walker’s eyes, but he then spoke earnestly, "Miss Horne, feelings can be cultivated slowly. Just give us a chance, and I will cherish and love you deeply, like your brother cherishes your sister-in-law. Whether or not you fall in love with me, my love for you is enough."
Adele Horne didn’t know what to say for a short while.
"Miss Horne, I know there is a huge gap in our statuses, but I really want to take care of you. Can you give me a chance?" Flynn Walker held out the bouquet of roses to Adele Horne once again, his eyes earnestly fixed on her.
Adele furrowed her elegant brows. She glanced at the flowers, then back at Flynn Walker. Without taking the bouquet, she said indifferently, "If you can go back inside and stand in front of my brother for half an hour, I’ll consider giving you a chance."
After speaking, she turned and walked towards the villa.
Flynn Walker stood frozen in place, fear unavoidably flashing across his face.
Half an hour?
He thought about standing in front of that fearsome man for another half hour, enduring his penetrating gaze, and decided he would rather jump into a sea of flames. Just ten minutes earlier, he had broken out in a cold sweat; half an hour would likely make him pass out.
After walking a few steps, Adele Horne noticed the silence behind her. She stopped, turned her head, and glanced at Flynn Walker still rooted to the spot. A sneer involuntarily tugged at her lips. Without that courage, could he truly protect her?
Turning her head away, Adele Horne entered the Main House without looking back, paying no further attention to Flynn Walker. He didn’t dare follow her inside, much less face Glades Horne again. Before Glades, all of Flynn’s good image crumbled in an instant.
Yet, he told himself he wouldn’t give up. He would keep trying. He would go back and work on his bravery. One day, he’d stand before Glades Horne without flinching.
But what he didn’t realize was that momentary timidity had sealed his fate.
No matter how cold and intimidating Glades Horne could be, or how piercing his gaze, that didn’t change the fact that he was only human; he wasn’t going to eat anyone. If Flynn didn’t even have the nerve to face a formidable businessman, how could he protect Adele, whose life was fraught with difficulties, and her unborn child?
Glades Horne’s concerns were not unnecessary. The man who wished to marry Adele Horne needed more than just love for her and willingness to accept her child.
At this time, James Horne drove by in a red Audi, passing without even a glance at Flynn Walker. Julia had said Flynn Walker was a decent man, but deep down, James felt the sourest of them all.
Flynn Walker stood in front of the villa without leaving immediately, lingering for a while longer. It wasn’t until Mila Anderson and Gian Horne got up that he reluctantly walked towards his car. Returning to his car, he opened the door and placed the bunch of roses on the passenger seat. Looking at the vibrant roses, he gave a self-deprecating laugh. "First time I mustered the courage to pursue a girl, first time I bought roses, yet I couldn’t even give them away."
Turning his head, he took a deep look at the Horne family villa before getting into his car and driving away.
If Noah Reyes, who was far away in a foreign land, knew that a man named Flynn Walker wanted to marry the woman he considered his wife and even tried to step in as a ready-made father to his child, he’d certainly be hopping mad. No, given his influence and ruthlessness, he’d probably chop Flynn Walker into eighteen pieces and feed him to the sharks in the sea.
The future Mrs. Reyes of the Fiery Gate—what man who didn’t have a death wish would dare to meddle with her? Let them come!
