Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 571: Hard Work (1)_1
Julia implicitly understood and nodded.
As the old lady withdrew her hand, letting the maid help her up, she passed by Glades Horne and suddenly said, "Glades, I think being a Movie King suits you. Would you be interested in pursuing that path?" She chuckled.
Glades Horne’s expression remained unchanged as he responded, "Grandma, Glades has merely inherited your true legacy."
The old lady blinked. Mhm, indeed, among all her grandchildren, only Glades Horne had inherited her craftiness. She chuckled again and exchanged a glance with Glades Horne, then stopped talking and walked out of the Main House with the maid’s support.
When only Glades Horne and Julia Bluen remained in the hall, Julia pulled Glades back to the sofa and made him sit. She turned to face him, propping one hand on the back of the sofa and leaning her head against it. As she gazed at him, her bright apricot eyes twinkled, and she said with a light smile, "Glades, are you feeling sour? You’re becoming pettier."
Glades Horne also turned to face her, mirroring her posture. He propped one hand on the back of the sofa and leaned in to meet her gaze. His deep eyes shimmered with tenderness. The lips that had been tightly pursed before now curved into a gentle smile, and the harshness on his handsome face softened. He was a stark contrast to the man who had been staring down Flynn Walker with such jealousy moments before.
Leaning in close, his breath fanned Julia’s face as he lightly asked in return, "Julia, do you really think I’m such a petty person?" Indeed, hearing her casually praise Flynn Walker had made him a bit uncomfortable, and he’d been jealous for a moment. But later, his intentions changed; it wasn’t just simple jealousy anymore.
Julia moved her face even closer, pressing against his handsome face, her apricot eyes studying his features intently before she answered affirmatively, "No. You had a purpose just now."
After a light kiss on her face, Glades Horne sighed softly, then pulled her into his embrace and settled back on the sofa together. He explained, "If Flynn Walker wants to pursue Adele, he’ll be facing more than just Adele; he’ll also have to contend with her notoriety. If they actually get together, many people will continue to criticize her relentlessly.
"Loving her isn’t enough; he needs strong protective capabilities. He’s too mild. While a gentle man can make a fine husband, he’s not suitable for Adele. If he can’t even withstand my glare, how will he protect Adele and her unborn child in the future?
"Moreover, we haven’t yet identified the child’s father. What if he’s someone problematic, or has his own agenda concerning Adele? Could Flynn Walker handle that? Could he ensure the safety of Adele and her child?
"Adele is my only sister. I can’t let her, especially after she’s been harmed, marry just anyone so easily. Even if the man is decent, truly loves her, and is willing to accept her child, my considerations can’t be limited to just that."
Glades Horne deeply analyzed his concerns for his sister, Adele Horne.
Especially since he had a strong premonition that the young master of the Fiery Gate was most likely the one who had taken his sister’s innocence. Then there were the issues with those subsidiary companies and the powerful, shadowy figure behind it all. If that man was connected to everything, his sister would be in grave danger.
He was strong, but there were many stronger than him.
If Flynn Walker couldn’t even bear his glare, how could he ensure the safety of Adele and her child?
He wanted a husband for Adele who was robust and unafraid of him, someone who could remain unfazed even under his most intense glare—not just a gentle man.
Julia looked up at him, her eyes wide.
She had thought he wasn’t an unreasonable or truly petty man, but she hadn’t realized his concerns ran so deep. He wasn’t just thinking of Adele’s happiness but also of many unforeseen future consequences. Indeed, Adele’s public reputation was terrible. Many people were envious of her background and constantly looked for opportunities to harm her. The only reason they hesitated now was Glades’s presence.
But Glades Horne couldn’t possibly protect her for a lifetime.
Glades Horne caressed her face dotingly and ruffled her hair affectionately as he said, "But I was indeed a bit jealous at first. You seldom praise men, yet Flynn received your compliments."
"I was just describing him honestly because he wanted to pursue Adele," Julia explained, her words not carrying much praise.
Glades Horne chuckled, then asked her seriously, "Julia, do you think Flynn Walker and Adele are a good match?"
Julia thought about it seriously and then shook her head.
Adele’s personality wasn’t suited to Flynn Walker. More importantly, Flynn’s brother, Tobby, was utterly lecherous and had almost harmed Adele. If Adele were to get involved with Flynn, what would happen once Tobby was out? Would he still harbor lustful intentions toward Adele? Personality aside, this concern alone made her uneasy about Adele and Flynn developing a relationship.
Moreover, she always felt that the man surnamed Black, the one who had taken Adele’s innocence, harbored special feelings for Adele. She harbored a fantasy, like something from a novel: that one day this man surnamed Black would appear before Adele. They would get to know each other, fall in love, and form a new family. They would live happily as a family of three, which would also deliver a stinging blow to the high-society women who had slandered Adele.
"So, this way, I can also make him realize the difficulty and back down. If he can’t even pass my test, he shouldn’t even dream of marrying my sister, Adele Horne," Glades Horne said domineeringly.
To marry his sister, they would have to get past him first.
Don’t think that just because his sister is seen as damaged goods in the eyes of others, she can be easily married off. No way!
Julia nodded, understanding his point of view.
Outside, Adele Horne tugged at Flynn Walker’s sleeve, pulling him along as they walked straight out of the villa.
Once outside the villa, Adele Horne stopped and let go of Flynn Walker’s sleeve. She stood in front of him, her face coolly indifferent as she said lightly, "Mr. Walker, I believe I made myself clear last time. Please go back."
She was not going to accept this man.
"Miss Horne, I... I think we could talk. Perhaps we could try to give each other a chance to get to know one another?" Flynn Walker stammered. He had stopped walking and quickly raised his hand to wipe the cold sweat from his face. Seeing Adele Horne looking at him, he added, flustered, "I’m sorry, that was impolite of me. I’ve made a fool of myself."
