Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 554: Pheobe Rogers’ Crushing Defeat (1)_1
"Pheobe Rogers, what are you doing here?" Gian Horne nervously walked up to Pheobe Rogers, blocked her way, caught her hand, and began dragging her outward.
His relationship with Mila Anderson hadn't improved, and Mila Anderson was still insisting on a divorce. With Pheobe Rogers barging in, Mila Anderson would undoubtedly be even more upset and would push harder for the divorce. The children don't know yet, he thought. What will they think if they find out about Mila's decision? How will they view me as a father?
"Gian." Pheobe Rogers threw herself into Gian Horne's embrace. Regardless of anything else, this embrace, still welcoming, was the haven she had always longed to stay in forever. Even when initially driven by a desire for money and status, her love for Gian Horne had been genuine. It was out of love that she had been willing to have his children, but now she realized her love was too cheap.
I don't want my love to be so cheap, she thought. I have to make my love precious. I need Gian to compensate me for the youth that has slipped by! My son can refuse the Horne Family business, but I want it!
Uncle Ying stood to the side, coldly observing. He didn't disappear just because Gian Horne had shown up.
The old lady, supported by Aunt Mei, came out. She instinctively turned her head to glance at Mila Anderson, who had followed her out. The old lady was the only person who knew Mila Anderson wanted a divorce.
Mila Anderson's expression was cool, though a hint of discomfort flashed in the depths of her eyes.
Even though I'm prepared to let go, Mila thought, right now, I still bear the title of Mrs. Horne. Gian's closeness with Pheobe Rogers is like a thorn, pricking my eyes and my heart. I thought my heart had truly died, that I wouldn't feel sad or pained any longer. Yet watching the scene unfold now, I suddenly realize my heart is still hurting.
But she was stronger and calmer than she had been before.
She stood at the entrance of the Main House. Because of the steps, she was at a higher position, calmly watching the couple with a cool gaze, as if she were watching a play.
As Pheobe Rogers flung herself into Gian Horne's arms, she subtly glanced at Mila Anderson. Seeing that Mila Anderson showed no signs of anger, unlike before, Pheobe Rogers sneered inwardly. Pretending! That Anderson woman... I'd like to see how long she can keep it up!
Glades Horne was not home, so she had no reservations.
"Gian, are you as heartless as they are? Separating me and James? Is it so wrong for me to want to see James? Look, even your family's servants bully me! What's the point of living if even a servant can bully me, when I'm the biological mother of the Horne Family's fourth young master?" Pheobe Rogers played the victim, complaining about Uncle Ying.
With effort, Gian Horne pushed her from his embrace. Seeing her tears, the years of love made him somewhat reluctant to let go. He turned his head and glanced at Uncle Ying, a reproachful look in his eyes.
"The eldest young master ordered that Ms. Rogers is not to set foot in the Horne Family home ever again. Sir, I am acting on the eldest young master's commands," Uncle Ying replied coolly, accustomed to Gian Horne's reproachful look. It's because of the old master that this woman has been so overbearing for decades, he thought. If the eldest young master hadn't taken charge, she would have continued her tyranny. I hope the formidable eldest young master will be even more ruthless and keep this woman away from here for good. That would be best!
"Gian, you're the head of this family! Look at the fine son you've raised—he's climbing all over your head, not even respecting you!" Pheobe Rogers seized the opportunity to stir up strife between Glades Horne and his father.
From a distance, the old lady sighed. "What a sin," she said.
Then she said to Aunt Mei, "Let's take a walk in the Backyard. Seeing such people and events is an eyesore."
Aunt Mei immediately assisted the old lady, and they headed towards the Backyard.
Mila Anderson still stood at the doorway, coolly watching her husband and his old flame. A mocking, ironic smirk played on her lips. With her arms crossed, she appeared even more composed.
Pheobe Rogers was clever indeed. She knew just the right time to act like this, with Glades having left on a business trip that morning, and Julia, Adele, and the others having just gone out. That was why Pheobe Rogers was so brazen.
James Horne withdrew his gaze from his mother and casually asked Marcel Horne, "Second Brother, shall we go inside?"
After some thought, I'll choose not to get involved in the emotional entanglement involving my parents and my mother, James decided. If I did, Mother would definitely think I was on her side, which would only make her more audacious. I don't want to overly protect anyone who could hurt Julia, even if it's my own mother. Besides, affairs of the heart are best handled by those directly involved.
Marcel Horne turned his head and gave James Horne a look, his eyes as sharp as knives, almost seeing through to James's heart. James was somewhat fearful of this Second Brother. He had been born with an inherent coldness, and because he was a soldier, there was a sternness and majesty about him that made people dare not step out of line in his presence.
"Yes, let's go inside," Marcel finally agreed after a while.
Everyone in the family knew James respected their eldest brother, Glades, the most. For Glades's sake, Marcel believed James wouldn't take this opportunity to collude with his mother against Mila Anderson.
James Horne ushered Marcel, and they turned to enter the house.
"James!"
Pheobe Rogers saw him enter the house, clearly not wanting to come closer or even call her "Mom." Recalling last night's events, her heart twisted with pain. No longer caring to cry to Gian Horne, she quickly bypassed him and rushed toward James Horne.
"I am sorry, Ms. Rogers, please leave!"
Uncle Ying, whom Pheobe Rogers deeply resented, took several quick steps forward and intercepted her again, blocking her path right in front of Gian Horne.
"Gian!" Pheobe Rogers turned her head, screaming hysterically at Gian Horne, her voice filled with endless misery. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Gian Horne quickly approached Uncle Ying. "Let her speak a few words with the fourth young master," he said, pleading with Uncle Ying on Pheobe Rogers's behalf. He then raised his eyes to his wife, who was still standing at the front of the house, coolly watching him. He was shocked by her composure. As he looked at her, she looked back at him. Their eyes met, and all he saw in hers was ice. His heart sank immediately.
