Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 520 Unrequited Love Hard to Break (3)_1
Because of this, she was particularly resentful towards Gian Horne for being useless. Even though he was ostensibly the head of the Horne Family, and their father, all those servants didn't show him the slightest respect. Instead, they followed Glades Horne's orders to the letter.
As for the Valence Group, she couldn't even set foot in it. She had worked there for several years, watching it grow step by step into the business empire it was today, an empire with wealth beyond calculation. It was like an octopus, its revenue-generating tentacles reaching into every corner. Ever since Glades took over the Valence Group, it had become her prohibited territory, a place she could no longer enter.
She didn't even have a spare key to her son's house, a space that belonged to him alone. Apart from her son and Glades, no one else had ever entered.
Now, her son's company had also rejected her.
My God, why was this happening to her?
Was she really that despicable, that loathsome?
All she wanted was to obtain the happiness she desired. Was that so wrong?
Why did she feel deserted by everyone now?
"James Horne!"
Pheobe Rogers said his name through gritted teeth.
James paid her no attention. He simply said to his secretary with cold indifference, "Please show Ms. Rogers out, and follow my instructions."
The secretary, having no choice, stepped forward and said to Pheobe, "Ma'am, let me escort you out."
"Ms. Rogers, not Ma'am!"
James emphasized again. His insistence made Pheobe's heart bleed.
This was her precious son, whom she had relied on for life!
"'No need for your help! I can leave on my own!' Pheobe was infuriated, her usually well-maintained face now somewhat distorted by her fury. She turned to leave. But after one step, still seething, she spun back to the desk. With a sweep of her arms, she knocked all of James's paperwork and books to the floor, along with the photos she had brought for him and his work computer.
CRASH!
At the clattering sound, James stood up abruptly, his face shadowed with anger. He bellowed at the secretary, "Get her out!"
Pheobe turned and walked towards the exit. But as she did, she couldn't contain the panic and profound sadness in her heart, and her eyes filled with tears.
If even this wouldn't turn her son against Glades, what chance did she have?
If her son wasn't interested in the Horne family's assets, even if she managed to take them by all means and present them to him, he would still return them to Glades.
She was furious!
But what troubled her most was her son's attitude towards her.
Regardless of his mother's feelings as she left, James quickly circled the desk, crouched down, and urgently picked up the photos. Though the loving image of the couple in them pierced his heart, it also offered him some solace. He intended to carefully preserve these photos so he could see the two people he loved most whenever he wanted.
As the secretary closed the door, she turned, puzzled, and glanced at him eagerly gathering the photos.
Whose photos were these that meant so much to their General Manager, that he treasured so dearly? And what had caused such a rift between him and his mother?
The secretary, though her mind was clouded with questions, didn't dare ask a single one.
After the door closed, silence returned to the office. Once again, it belonged solely to James Horne.
He carefully picked up each photo. Then, he took out a tissue and wiped each one clean, ensuring they weren't smudged, before carefully stacking them and sitting back down in his swivel chair.
One by one, he looked over them again.
His slender fingers, filled with longing and covetousness, caressed the photos of Glades Horne and Julia Bluen.
His cold eyes showed a rare tenderness.
He didn't even spare a glance for the mess on the floor.
"'Big Brother, even though I love Julia very much and want to be with her, I can assure you I will never fight or compete with you for her. If it's yours, I won't contend for it,' James murmured.
He continued to stare tenderly at Julia's photo, silent now, his gaze alone expressing his unbreakable affection.
Alas, his love had taken root in the wrong place, yet these feelings were so hard to sever.
Drawing the photo close to his lips, with utmost gentleness, he kissed Julia's smiling red lips in the photo, his eyes deepening intensely.
Pheobe Rogers drove away from James Horne's kitchenware company.
All the way, her heart ached, and she was distressed, struggling to calm her rising bitterness.
When she finally reached home, she stormed in and, in a frenzy, started smashing things.
Without breaking something, her rage wouldn't subside.
When her surroundings were in complete disarray, she slumped to the floor and sobbed in heartbroken agony.
I feel like I'm going mad!
Truly mad!
And the person driving me to this madness is Glades Horne!
No, I will make Glades Horne live in unrest!
I will tear apart Glades and Julia! I will sow discord between Glades and my son!
I'm already crazed, so I'll become even madder!
What can Glades do to me? Would he dare kill me? If he dares, I'm not afraid to die! I'd rather he deal with me harshly—kill me! That way, once I'm dead, my goal will be achieved. My son will surely hate Glades then and turn against him. Glades's reputation and authority will suffer!
Pheobe's emotions were teetering on the brink of insanity. Instead of self-reflection, she resolved to intensify her efforts. She couldn't make sense of anything. Her mind was fixated only on battling Glades.
A man who could conjure clouds with one turn of his hand and rain with another, a man standing at the pinnacle of power—did she really think she could fight him? It was nothing but a death wish!
Unfortunately, Pheobe, having lost all reason, was oblivious to Glades's methods and to the fact that he was the last man she should provoke. If she dared to harm even a single hair on Julia Bluen's head, Glades would not let her off, even if she was James's mother.
