Chapter 429: Chapter 428: Noah Reyes (2)_1

"Glades."

Julia called out, feeling a bit of a headache. Please, stop treating her as a child—she was almost twenty-seven. In just over a month, after the New Year, she would be twenty-seven years old. She even had a little bun in the oven, yet they still fussed over her like she was a child.

"Don’t worry, as long as I’m here, I’d rather take the hit myself than let Julia get hurt," Rachel Bailey hurriedly assured.

Julia felt a headache coming on. She actually saw Glades Horne’s behavior as a form of deep love. He was constantly worried about the woman he loved, never feeling at ease no matter who she was with. Yet, he’d rather keep his worries to himself, just to make her feel free and happy. His love seemed deeper than Hansen Ruiz’s love for her. Often, only outsiders could see through it all.

Glades Horne gave Julia a few more words of caution before finally rolling up his car window and ordering Wade Coleman to drive.

"Julia, don’t stress yourself out; your man really loves you," Rachel Bailey said, linking arms with Julia as they merged into the bustle of the street, chatting as they walked.

"I know. When I think about it, I feel very happy. By the way, Rachel, when will you and Hansen Ruiz...?"

"Stop it! You’re married now, about to be a mom, and you’ve become so bold when you speak."

Rachel Bailey blushed and pinched Julia Bluen.

Julia Bluen giggled mischievously.

"Today, I took him to meet my parents at my home."

"How did it go? Did he have any complaints about you?"

"No, but... hehe, he got pranked." Rachel then told Julia about how her family had wickedly tested Hansen Ruiz, making Julia’s eyes sparkle as she laughed so hard she could hardly close her mouth.

The two of them walked along, chatting and laughing.

When they passed by a yarn shop, Rachel Bailey suddenly pulled Julia Bluen inside.

During winter, crafty women often used their free time to knit warm sweaters for their beloved men, sons, or respected parents. Although not worth much money, the value lay in the sentiment.

Rachel Bailey picked out a shade of yarn that suited Hansen Ruiz and bought it, along with knitting tools.

"Rachel, what are you buying these for? Can you knit sweaters?" When Julia worked at Cosmos, she recalled colleagues using their hour-plus lunch break to knit for their families, and she wondered if Rachel Bailey could knit too.

"Yes, I learned how to knit when I was in high school. I went to college up north, where it was cold, and I often knitted my own sweaters to save money and keep warm. I don’t have anything valuable to give Hansen Ruiz as an engagement gift, so I thought I would knit him a warm sweater myself. Although it’s not expensive, it’s made by my own hands, and the value lies in my sentiment. He should like it."

"Men, if they truly love you, will cherish handmade sweaters from you as if they were more precious than gold. They will either keep it hidden away because they can’t bear to wear it, or wear it and hate to ever take it off," Julia teased with a sly smile. She then asked Rachel Bailey if learning to knit a sweater was hard. Rachel said it wasn’t, and so Julia decided to learn how to knit too, thinking she could make one for Glades Horne when she had some free time, and one for the baby in her belly as well. Julia had noticed that her former colleagues from the north could almost all knit sweaters. They were particularly deft with their hands, something she deeply admired. Those who had children would knit all their winter clothes—including trousers, booties, hats, and scarves—ensuring their children were enveloped in maternal love through each cold winter season.

So Rachel helped her select some high-quality balls of yarn and a set of knitting tools, then showed Julia how to knit on the spot. Julia was clever and caught on quickly, but of course, she only mastered the basics for now.

After leaving the store, they suddenly saw a madwoman frantically passing them by. Upon a closer look, both were shocked to discover that this madwoman was the Powell Family’s own Diana Powell.

It turned out that Cosmos Group was dealt such a devastating blow by Hansen Ruiz that it struggled to survive. His tactics were absolutely more ferocious than those of Glades Horne. Dio Powell’s mistress, seeing that Cosmos Group was about to close, got Dio Powell drunk. She coaxed the safe combination of the Finance Department out of him. She then absconded with all the company’s cash, almost ten million yuan, as well as all of Dio Powell’s personal savings, before vanishing without a trace.

Following this catastrophe, Cosmos Group collapsed on the spot and was bought out by people sent by Glades Horne.

As ninety percent of the Powell Family’s savings were in Dio Powell’s name, the swift plundering by his mistress cast them out of the Upper Class Society, turning a wealthy household into a poor one almost overnight.

The failure of Diana Powell’s marriage and the various hardships in her life were too much for her young spirit to handle, driving her to madness as she roamed around aimlessly.

The two of them felt a flood of emotions upon seeing Diana Powell’s condition, beyond just surprise.

Julia once held a grudge against Diana Powell, but now that she was happily married to Glades Horne, she no longer resented Diana Powell for taking Nicholas Coldwell from her.

At this moment, seeing Diana Powell’s madness, Julia couldn’t help but think about the wheel of karma coming full circle.

If Diana Powell hadn’t forcibly taken her love, then Cosmos Group wouldn’t have met its grim fate. If Dio Powell hadn’t kept a mistress, the Powell Family wouldn’t have tumbled down from their high estate so abruptly. It was all karmic retribution!

Diana Powell was quickly found by the Powell Family and brought back home, without them noticing Julia Bluen and Rachel Bailey.

「Time flew, and soon it was nine o’clock.」

Glades Horne had been waiting for Julia at Serendipity Cafe since half past eight.

At nine o’clock sharp, he saw his beloved wife approaching with a mysterious bag, seemingly trying to hide it, as if she didn’t want him to know what was inside.

Glades simply chuckled softly at this and didn’t probe into what she was hiding.

「However, in the following days, he began to feel extremely uneasy and uncomfortable.」

Julia was getting up earlier than him every day. As soon as she did, she would sneak into the Study Room and close the door; he didn’t know what she was doing inside. When he would knock and enter, Julia would scramble to hide something inside a bag. He did not know what was in that bag, and she wouldn’t let him see.
