Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 428 - 427: Noah Reyes (1)_1
When Hansen Ruiz returned from meeting Rachel’s family, his car’s back seat was stuffed full. Of the gifts he had brought for the Bailey Family, only the two bottles of wine they opened and drank were consumed; all the rest were shoved back into his car. In addition, there were the gifts the Bailey Family had given him: food, clothes, household items, and even toys. It was as if they regarded him as a recycling center, stuffing anything and everything into his car.
The only things the Bailey Family kept were the flowers and the fishing gear.
Hansen Ruiz believed he was quite formidable, thinking he could persuade the Bailey Family to accept his gifts, but Mr. Bailey was even more so. After a lengthy session of polite refusals and insistent offers, he finally resigned himself to loading the gifts back into his car.
By six in the evening, the two of them finally made it back to the bustling and lively City District of T City.
Rachel Bailey said she wanted to invite Julia Bluen for a cup of coffee and asked Hansen Ruiz to drop her off at Serendipity Cafe. Hansen Ruiz had initially thought that after returning from meeting her parents, they could stroll around, talk about love, and whisper sweet nothings. However, Rachel said she hadn’t seen her good friend Julia Bluen in ages.
Hansen Ruiz complied with her request.
As soon as Hansen Ruiz left, Rachel immediately called Julia.
"Dear Julia, are you free? Let’s go shopping; I have something to tell you," Rachel said, giggling warmly.
"When Miss Bailey issues an invitation, how could I possibly say I’m busy? Tell me, where shall we meet?" Julia’s smiling voice came through the phone.
"The usual spot, and you can’t back out! Oh, and don’t bring that slightly scary, domineering, and scheming husband of yours, haha! This is our girls’ day out," Rachel didn’t forget to remind Julia not to bring Glades Horne along.
Rachel had mixed feelings about Glades Horne. She was annoyed that he had tricked her but was also grateful for his guidance and persuasion, which had helped her open her heart to accept Hansen Ruiz. Now she and Hansen Ruiz were as sweet as honey and practically inseparable, and Glades Horne had played a significant role in that.
Julia held her phone and chuckled. Discreetly glancing at Glades Horne, who was right beside her, she replied, "Alright, I won’t bring him. I’ll have my driver take me there now."
"Can’t you drive yourself?" Rachel asked casually.
"It’s a long story; we’ll talk when we meet." The two old friends talked daily, but their calls were usually short. Consequently, Rachel didn’t know that the domineering Glades Horne had forbidden Julia to drive herself to and from work.
After hanging up, Julia turned to look at Glades Horne, who had been watching her the whole time. She gave him a playful smile, looking just like an adorable maneki-neko—the beckoning fortune cat.
Seeing this, Glades Horne chuckled. He couldn’t help but tap her cute, pert nose and said indulgently, "You’re going to be a mom soon, yet you still act like a child. So, what’s up? Don’t just keep giggling at me."
"Hehe, or I could pout and whimper at you instead."
"You wouldn’t dare! Dare to cry? Cry and let’s see what happens!" Glades Horne’s handsome face suddenly darkened, his deep eyes, sharp as an eagle’s, boring into Julia’s face.
Julia blinked. Her man was indeed as domineering as her friend described.
"Alright, alright. When you’re by my side, you only make me happy and make me laugh; you won’t make me cry. I’m very happy and joyful, and I definitely won’t cry. Stop making that face, or you’ll turn into marble—hard and stinky!" Julia cooed, playfully bumping into his embrace. He quickly steadied her. He was a little displeased with her bumping into him; after all, she was pregnant and should have snuggled in instead. However, he did find her coquettishness quite charming.
She rarely acted so coquettish.
"Marble is hard, but it doesn’t stink," Glades Horne said in a low, husky voice, his handsome face still cool, though his eyes were filled with tenderness.
Julia rolled her eyes. It was just a metaphor...
"Oh, by the way, your wife—meaning me—taught a faithless man a harsh lesson this morning. He has a wife and a son, yet he still fools around with several women. He even dared to dine and dash at my cafe, making his wife use her salary to cover his bill! I’ve never seen such an irresponsible man. But my employee is also to blame; she shouldn’t spoil her man like that. After Jonathan Allen arrived, he gave that cheat a few hard slaps—SMACK! SMACK! It was a beautiful and satisfying sight! Men like him deserve to be slapped! Let’s see if he dares to mistreat women again!" Julia Bluen abruptly shifted to the morning’s events.
Glades Horne’s lips curled into a faint smile as he stroked her increasingly long hair. It’s probably because she’s pregnant and the family prepares nourishing soups for her daily; her hair is growing so fast.
"A wife is meant to be cherished, loved, and spoiled at home, not tormented," Glades Horne said with a low chuckle, indirectly expressing his love for Julia.
Unexpectedly, Julia Bluen immediately wrapped her arms around his neck and planted a resounding kiss on his handsome face. Smiling, she said, "Exactly! That’s what I said too. Glades, you’re like a mind-reader; you know exactly what I’m thinking. So... no need for me to say more. You know where to take me, right?" With that, she winked her beautiful eyes at Glades Horne, sending flirtatious glances his way.
Glades Horne chuckled and tapped her nose again. "You little imp." Then, he instructed Wade Coleman, who was driving, "Change course. Serendipity Cafe."
He had, of course, heard the conversation between his beloved wife and Rachel Bailey.
He really wanted to go home and be all lovey-dovey with his beloved wife, but he would still give her some personal space.
Wade Coleman waited until they reached a traffic light before changing direction and heading toward Serendipity Cafe.
Rachel Bailey had been waiting there for some time.
"Rachel."
As the car came to a stop, Julia Bluen opened the door and waved to Rachel Bailey.
"Julia."
As she was getting out of the car, Glades Horne grabbed her hand and instructed in a low, firm voice, "I’ll be here waiting for you at nine."
Julia wanted to refuse, but when she turned her head and met his deep gaze, she could only nod in agreement. Only then did Glades Horne release her hand and let her exit the car.
Rachel Bailey hurried over.
Glades Horne closed the car door but rolled down the window. When Rachel Bailey approached, he said, his handsome face slightly stern, his voice serious, "Miss Bailey, I’m entrusting Julia to you. I hope that when you return her to me, she will be completely unharmed."
