Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Only a Woman Is Useful

Raina Reddington jumped in fright. His face was buried against her, and even through the fabric, she could feel Ethan Lancaster’s hot, scorching breath.

"Just go."

Ever since he was born, Ethan Lancaster had been accustomed to women throwing themselves at him. When had he ever needed to force himself on a woman?

Even though he was stretched to his breaking point, he still had some pride.

He started trying to coax and trick her. "Have one drink, and I’ll go back with you."

"If you don’t want to go back, then you can just stay here."

"You—"

Ethan Lancaster was in agony, but Raina Reddington was as responsive as a block of wood. If he could just trick her into drinking that glass of wine, he could later claim that she was the one who couldn’t keep her hands off him.

"If you don’t drink it, I’ll report you..."

Raina struggled but couldn’t pull his hands away. "Go ahead and report me. Want me to send you the hospital director’s email?"

Ethan couldn’t hold back any longer. He wrapped one arm tightly around her waist, grabbed the collar of her shirt with his other hand, and forced her down onto the sofa, her knees buckling.

Raina’s eyes met his, and she finally realized something was wrong. "Ethan Lancaster, calm down! What’s wrong with you?"

He didn’t listen and began tearing at her clothes. Raina pressed both hands against his chest. "Are you insane? Look where we are!"

"This is killing me."

Raina freed one hand and touched his forehead. "You... You weren’t drugged, were you?"

"Nonsense!" ’He would never admit to something like that, not even if it killed him.’

No matter how incredible Ethan Lancaster’s self-control was, he couldn’t withstand this kind of torment and contact. But Raina couldn’t let him be so outrageous—they were still out in public, after all.

But the difference in strength between a man and a woman was simply too great. If he was determined to use force, she was no match for him.

Raina reached out, her fingertips brushing against a small wine glass on the coffee table. She seized the opportunity while Ethan was distracted and grabbed it.

The man ripped open the last button of his shirt. As he leaned down, he was struck on the head. Raina watched as a welt immediately formed on his forehead.

"Hey... don’t be rash! I’m a doctor, I can help you!"

Ethan snatched the glass from her and threw it across the room.

A short while later, Cameron Fairchild led a woman to the door of the private room. Just as he was about to knock, he heard sounds from within.

"Go on, go on. You’re not needed anymore."

The woman turned and left reluctantly, not expecting that someone had already beaten her to it.

This was the second time Raina had been bitten by this dog. And it wasn’t a light bite, either—it was the kind that left you feeling battered and bruised all over.

Ethan was sober now. His mouth was terribly dry and he wanted a drink of water, but he didn’t dare touch any of the drinks or alcohol on the table.

Raina managed to sit up. Ethan bent down, picked up a top, and handed it to her.

She was both furious and annoyed. "Doesn’t the great Fourth Master bring a date when he goes out to have fun?"

Ethan touched the wound on his forehead. "Are you trying to kill me?"

She hurriedly got dressed, ready to leave. Ethan glanced up, grabbed his jacket, and followed her.

He quickened his pace while buttoning his shirt. Raina opened the door, unable to stop herself from muttering, "I can’t believe you’re this kind of person. A pervert, a beast, shameless—"

Two neat rows of people were standing right outside the door. Seeing her burst out like that, Cameron Fairchild wore an expression that was hard to put into words.

Everyone knew what had just happened inside. Cameron, with a smirk, played along with Raina. "Yes, yes, he’s shameless, he’s a beast..."

Raina’s face was ashen. She had never been so humiliated. She wasn’t part of their circle; to them, this sort of thing might be perfectly normal, but she wasn’t so nonchalant as to let others gossip about her freely.

Except for Ethan’s childhood friends, no one else knew who Raina was.

One woman went so far as to pull out her phone. "Wow, I got to see quite a show today..."

The phone was almost in Raina’s face before she slapped it away.

"What do you think you’re doing!" the woman exclaimed, annoyed. "Stop acting so high and mighty. Look at your clothes, your collar is all torn."

She bent down to pick up her phone, the camera app still open. This time, she stood directly in front of Raina. "I’m going to take your picture. What are you going to do about it?"

Just as Raina was about to lose her temper, her vision went black. Ethan had draped his suit jacket over her head.

He casually wrapped his arm around Raina’s shoulders, but she sidestepped, causing his arm to fall on empty air.

Ethan stared at the woman, his expression flat. "Who brought you here?"

Cameron Fairchild shot her a look, signaling for her to shut up. Ethan adjusted the jacket over Raina’s head. "If I remember correctly, there’s a security camera in the room."

"There is..." Cameron picked up the thread. "Don’t worry, it’ll be wiped clean."

Raina was now too embarrassed to remove the jacket. After giving his instructions, Ethan put his arm around her and led her away.

Once in the car, Raina was still hiding under the jacket. Ethan, finding it ridiculous, yanked it off her.

"We’re legally married. It’s not like we’re having some sordid affair."

She had almost forgotten her colleagues were probably still waiting for her. Raina could only make up a quick excuse, texting that she had a family emergency and had to leave.

Ethan couldn’t see what she was typing. "Who did you go to Aristor Hall with?"

"Colleagues."

"Male colleagues?"

Raina replied blandly, "Some."

Ethan’s tone was laced with sarcasm. "Male colleagues in the OB/GYN department. Impressive."

This was the most common prejudice outsiders had about her department. Raina was used to it and didn’t want to argue with him.

「Back at The Verdant Garden」

They entered the bedroom one after the other. Ethan felt sticky all over. He started unbuttoning his shirt and said to Raina, "You can shower first."

Raina’s face was full of vigilance. "You go first."

The man said nothing and turned to enter the bathroom.

Before long, the sound of the water stopped abruptly. Ethan pulled the bathroom door open a crack. "Can you get me a change of clothes?"

’This man is so used to being waited on,’ Raina thought as she walked into the dressing room. She grabbed a pair of Ethan’s underwear and a set of pajamas.

She walked to the bathroom door and knocked lightly.

"Come in."

Raina pulled the door open a little wider and tossed the clothes inside.

Ethan had never been treated with such disdain. He bent down, picked up the pajamas, but didn’t put them on. Instead, he pulled the bathroom door wide open and walked out.

Raina heard the noise and wondered, ’He’s dressed already?’ She turned her head instinctively, and her face instantly turned beet red. "You! What are you doing!"

"What about me? I’m in my own home, so of course I’ll do whatever’s comfortable."

Raina quickly averted her gaze. Ethan walked to the side of the bed and started putting on the pajamas.

Seeing her tense expression, wary of him as if he were a wolf, Ethan, still shirtless, rubbed the back of his neck. "You know, this drug really has a kick, doesn’t it? I think my body’s still feeling warm... I think the feeling is coming back."

Raina looked as if she were facing a mortal enemy. "It’s not too late to go to the hospital."

"No," Ethan said, walking toward Raina. "There’s no antidote for this drug. Only a woman can help."
