Primordial Chaos Dragon Tower: Harem System-Chapter 1474: The Immortal One
"A story?" Vika muttered, using her dagger to brush the side of her cheek that was hidden behind a black mask.
"Do you perhaps think this is a joke? If you don’t know, then I will tell you. A whole Supreme being wants her hands on this young lady. So if you think a mere story would save you from me, then think again."
Kent had a frown on his face simply because Vika threatened to make him her slave. Normally, he would be boiling with anger by now, but he suppressed that fury for Aysel and Fallon’s sake.
Their safety is his priority now.
"Trust me, you are going to want to hear what I have to say. Also, it would be best if you let go of my hands. I have already concluded that I am not your match, so worry not, I won’t try to run."
Kent was hoping Bello, Calix, and Kenna, hidden in his shadow, would come into play when he finally made his move. However, the fact that she saw through his scheme so easily made him forgo that thought.
He didn’t expect Vika to form a partial shadow domain when she hadn’t yet become a Shadow Immortal.
As long as she had that much control, there was no way he could escape from her. So he resolved to use his last move.
Kent felt her hold on him weaken. This allowed him to turn to Fallon. "Relax, everything will be alright."
She nodded and held Aysel’s other hand. Tears flowed down her big brown eyes, a sight that made Kent’s heart ache.
However, while he would love nothing more than to sever every limb on Vika, he had no means for now. For the first time ever, he found himself with no easy way out...
So he began his story.
"Before I begin, what can you tell me about the Seven Mysteries of the assassin world?"
Vika narrowed her eyes as if she wanted to bore a hole through Kent’s soul. However, she replied, "They are the unresolved mysteries that have plagued and still are plaguing the world of assassins.
Over the years, mysteries like the Faceless Assassin, the Shadow Lord, and the Immortal One have driven many assassins mad in the pursuit of their treasures.
Some of the mysteries have been resolved, while some still remain at large."
Kent nodded. "That is indeed true. The Faceless Assassin was one of those mysteries. However, Today, I will be telling you a story of the Immortal One, someone who, to this day, nobody has managed to figure out his mystery, at least that is what many believed."
Vika sighed and was about to call Kent’s bullshit when he spoke, shutting her up.
"Those who seek my techniques must walk the path of death itself. The ghost walks unseen. The blade strikes the heart. The shadow returns from death.
Those were the famous last words of the Immortal One, a second before the Dream King severed his head.
Legend has it that when he was alive, he created three legendary techniques that, for the duration of his life, made him nearly unkillable, just like how, to this day, nobody can beat their chest and say they know what the Faceless Assassin looks like."
Kent sighed and let his words sink deep into Vika’s head before he continued.
"Eternal Ghost Step. A movement technique said to rank among the top five in the universe. Legend has it that, when mastered to a certain level, it can allow an assassin to move between worlds and travel millions of light-years in a single step.
They even said that at his peak, the Immortal One was able to step outside of space and time using the Eternal Ghost Step.
Over the years, this technique has been sought by billions of assassins, yet no one has found it. Nobody has even come close to finding it." A smile formed on Kent’s face, causing Vika to further narrow her eyes and frown.
"Don’t tell me you have it and that if I were to free you, you would give it to me," she sneered and added, "Even if you have it, as long as I make you my slave, I can extract it from you."
"You really should stop threatening me with slavery. Trust me, it is for your own good," he sighed and opened his palm, causing a small rune to appear in it.
"I indeed have the Eternal Ghost Step. In fact, I have all three techniques, and yes, I want to trade the Eternal Ghost Step for the lives of these two and a promise to never come after them ever again."
Vika chuckled, then pointed her dagger at Kent. "I don’t believe you, and I think you are bluffing."
"I don’t lie. Also, if you recognise this rune, it would go a long way in making you believe what I am saying."
Vika looked at the rune again, but clearly, she did not recognise it. Fortunately, Fallon recognised it. "This is the mark of the Midnight Shadows."
Hearing what Fallon said, Vika narrowed her eyes and looked at the rune again. This time, thanks to Fallon, she recognised it too. This made her change her stance against Kent.
"How do you have this mark?" she asked, the aura surrounding her shifting with her words.
"Even if I wanted to, I would not tell you. Trust me, it is for your own safety. However, I can give you the Eternal Ghost Step, and, as I requested, the price is that you let us go and promise not to come after us anymore.
Now, I know you are following orders, but a chance to have such a legendary technique should at least make you compromise.
Your freedom is important, but I believe the freedom to make your own decisions should trump any beliefs you have about whoever you serve now.
Unless, of course, you believe the Eternal Ghost Step is not worth more than your dedication to your master."
Kent waved his hand again, and a contract appeared. "This is a contract that will be enforced by the tainted soul of the goddess of hatred and resentment. If you sign it, it will hold for as long as both of us live.
You cannot come after us, nor would you lead others after us. Going against these words will call down the wrath of the goddess" Kent smiled and added, "Of course, since you can’t kill us, if you want to tag along, I wouldn’t mind. Heaven knows you are going to need a genius like me to help decipher the technique for you."
Inasmuch as he would love to sever her head from her body, Kent could not deny that Vika had what it took to protect him on this journey. Recruiting allies is also part of one’s strength, so if he could kill two birds with one stone, he would not miss the opportunity.
Of course, he also wanted to know more about the organisation she was from and who truly wanted Aysel. To better protect her, it would be good to know more about her pursuers.
The only question was: would Vika accept his offer and sign the contract with him, or stick to her beliefs and attack him?
He used the mark of the Faceless Agents to make her wonder just who Kent really was. This was also his way of telling her that his background was not simple.
She seemed to grasp that, and so she started to wonder about many things. Ten minutes later, a sigh escaped her lips. Then she lifted the hood off her head, removed the mask and smiled.
"Nice story, Chaos... But why should I trust you?"
