Post-Apocalypse: Mated To Alphas Of Orion-Chapter 95: Confronting Rigel
(Amaia)
"Min, you go ahead. I will join you." We walk off the training ground with heavy hearts and battered spirits.
"Don’t try something stupid, Amaia. You saw how strong that vampire is." Mintaka turns to face me. He knows I am going to confront him.
"I won’t, just trust me. Go check on them and see how serious their injuries are." Mintaka lingers, the clouds of worries remain on his face but my pleading finally works and he takes off. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
I stay just alongside the building from where I know Guild Pegasus will pass to head over to their next session. We always have 20-30 minute breaks between sessions.
I don’t have to wait much longer when I hear them coming this way, laughing and making fun of Kacir.
"Did you see how Ezran humiliated him? I always think something is wrong with that guy, hiding one of his eyes," Filana taunts, making my blood boil.
Boldly I make my presence known and face them all. Except Luthial, everyone else is snickering. The smug smiles on their faces broaden as they see me.
Rigel remains behind them, halting.
"Aww! Look they sent their tiny human to avenge them," Ramian snorts, pulling away his golden hair from his eyes.
"This tiny human flattened your ass in the practice session and can do it again if you don’t watch your mouth," I boldly say, my body shaking from the bouts of anger I am experiencing.
Ramian is about to counter as his smile drops from his face when Rigel places a firm hand on his shoulder.
"Get to the next session, and I will speak to her." The authority that his words carry makes Ramian close his mouth again and he leaves with the rest of his guild.
My angered eyes shift towards this dangerous male whom my heart doesn’t fear for reasons unknown. Even my magic shifts like needy waves in my veins, desperate to reach him.
"I didn’t think you would stoop so low to humiliate someone I care about. How dare you?" I point an accusing finger at him and he just lazily leans against the wall. His needy gaze focuses and consumes me. Slowly, he folds his arms, making himself even more comfortable. His right leg lifts and arches against the wall.
"Don’t you love the sun? It has been so long since I have felt it. Too bad vampires can’t get tan or I might have gotten some colour," he nonchalantly says, making my anger rise like mercury in a thermometer, immersed in hot water.
"What’s wrong with you?" I ask, trying not to shake too much from the rage pulsing in my veins.
"A lot. I told you. I am a hopeless case. I tried to stay away from you but the recent events forbid me to. So I am going to hurt anyone and everyone that comes close to you, Amaia," he says in a silken voice, but like a razor blade, it cuts deep and makes my heart bleed. And he isn’t done.
"That boy shares a room with you...with my mate. He watches you sleep. He watches you in your wet hair when you must take a bath. He watches you study and sit in bed. He clings to you always. That’s why I hate him. If you hadn’t stopped me, I would have ended his meaningless..."
"Don’t you dare complete that sentence," I warn while trying not to lose my mind. A meaningful smile creases his thin lips, but that affection he carries in his eyes for me stays.
"If you dare to hurt him or any of my guildmates again, you will have nothing but my hatred." Yanking the flower he had tied around my wrist, I snap the knot and return it to him.
"Keep it, I don’t need a flower from someone who gets on by hurting people and humiliating them."
For the first time, flickers of emotions spread across his face like stars in the night sky. He catches the flower he had created from the piece of torn cloth and watches it as if it’s not a flower but a piece of his heart I have returned.
The raw emotions I witness make my insides scream.
"It was a fight..."
"You humiliated him on purpose because he is my friend and you wished to take his life, just like you said," I retort.
"I can’t stop....I won’t stop....so distance yourself from every male. Take residence with the female werewolf in your guild," he unapologetically says, still staring at the flower in his hand, twisting it between his pointer and thumb.
He seems so lost like a man who has suddenly lost hope. Like a remorseless assassin, the one who has nothing to lose and can’t go against the orders.
And then it clicks for me. What if he can’t? What if the curse has been extended, and he is being forced to hurt people near me?
Is that a possibility? He had said before that he was cursed just like me. So could he be telling the truth without telling the totality of it?
It’s very much possible that he can’t tell me the truth as to why he is sent here and being made to do it. He can very well be a puppet just like me.
What a predicament. I can’t even speak about him with anyone and yet I can’t have him continue to hurt the people I care about, especially my mates.
But Alnilam can’t be behind all this? He won’t make him hurt his brothers? But he can surely have him use the threat to make me distance myself from them.
Seeing me lost in thoughts he turns his head and watches me with tenderness coating his eyes.
"Amaia...try and understand," there is a plea which stabs me all over my chest. I can’t be in his vicinity and I need to make a decision.
"I have to go check up on the people you hurt. I don’t know, Rigel, if it’s the curse making you do this or if it’s on purpose. But I am going to find a way to end this. I promise you that." With that, I turn around and leave before he can stop me or say something else, which makes my resolve waver.
