Plunder-Chapter 169: It Wasn’t Me Who Slept With You
Due to the scandalous video, An Jinrong was dismissed from his position in less than a week.
There’s a saying, "When the tree falls, the monkeys scatter." That was exactly his situation.
Once the news of An Jinrong’s dismissal broke, issues from his past tenure in the capital continuously surfaced.
Suddenly, he became a target for legal sanctions.
One day, Qiao En was returning home from work when she encountered Secretary Huang at the entrance of the residential area.
Clearly, he was waiting there specifically for Qiao En.
"Secretary Xu."
Secretary Huang approached and stopped Qiao En.
"Director An wants to see you."
It had come, as was inevitable.
And what Qiao En had been waiting for was exactly this meeting with An Jinrong.
"Some other day, I have plans tonight."
Qiao En declined, she did not immediately agree.
"Secretary Xu, please, Director An has been waiting for you."
Secretary Huang insisted.
Qiao En hesitated for a moment, then agreed.
However, she did not take Secretary Huang’s car but instead took a taxi there by herself.
He was currently detained, and through Secretary Huang’s connections, Qiao En was allowed in.
In the visitation room, Qiao En saw An Jinrong.
It had hardly been a week since they last met, yet he looked as if he had aged ten years, his appearance was markedly frail and old.
He staggered towards Qiao En as she sat there, quietly watching him as one would a stranger.
There was resentment in An Jinrong’s eyes.
"Why did you do this?"
He sat down, angrily facing Qiao En.
Qiao En shrugged and denied, "Director An, I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Don’t play dumb with me, the woman who slept with me that night was clearly you, so why did it turn out to be a prostitute later? And how come my phone had records of soliciting prostitution?"
As their eyes met, An Jinrong was desperate to know, even though, at this moment, knowing the truth had become meaningless to him.
Qiao En gave a cold laugh, continuing her denial, "Director An, don’t talk nonsense. That night, I only drank and played games with you. I was drunk, and you left me at the barbecue restaurant, you took a taxi and left, don’t you remember?"
"As for what happened afterward, Director An, how can you randomly accuse me? In my eyes, Director An is of high moral integrity, untainted by the mud, and definitely would not engage in soliciting prostitution. Director An, I would like to ask you the same, is it true?"
"Heh."
An Jinrong issued a cold laugh, "Secretary Xu, stop acting. If you say this matter has nothing to do with you, I can’t believe it. Did Zhou Jin’an make you do this?"
"Director An, you are truly wronging me. I, a mere secretary, how could I possibly have such great capabilities? As for Director Zhou, you know him, what advantage does he have in harming you?"
Qiao En continued to deny everything, and since An Jinrong had indeed been blackout drunk that night, he had no evidence that Qiao En was behind it.
But he also could not understand who else might want to trap him in this way.
"Director An, think carefully, could it be that you offended someone? Someone set you up, and you inadvertently fell for it."
Qiao En kindly reminded him, wrapping him further into confusion with her suggestion.
He was well-known in the political field, and offending people was a common occurrence. It was possible someone played a dirty trick on him.
"Now do me a favor."
An Jinrong did not continue with the topic.
"What do you need?" Qiao En asked.
An Jinrong did not explain but moistened his finger and wrote some digits on the table, "Just tell these to Zhou Jin’an."
Qiao En, puzzled, asked, "What do these numbers mean?"
An Jinrong leaned back in his chair, his eyes murky with shrewdness.
"He knows."
"How does Director An know for sure that I would follow through?"
Qiao En silently noted the series of numbers, but her gaze toward An Jinrong was filled with reluctance to cooperate.
Was the other party testing her or setting a trap? She had to be on guard.
"Jin’an is your boss."
"Given Director An’s current situation, wouldn’t everyone avoid him if they could? If I do this for you, what if it causes trouble for me? Director An, I’m very timid and can’t withstand turmoil."
Qiao En intentionally showed weakness.
An Jinrong sneered coldly twice, "If you’re timid, you just need to practice becoming braver."
Qiao En pondered, clearly wrestling with her thoughts.
After a while, she gave a response.
"It’s not that I can’t do this task for Director An, but I also have a favor to ask of you."
"Speak."
An Jinrong prompted her.
"Fifteen years ago, when Director An was working in Rong City, you started building an orphanage called Fu Yuan. Do you remember?"
As old matters were brought up, An Jinrong looked suspicious and nodded, "I remember."
"When Director An was transferred to the capital, the Fu Yuan Orphanage was shut down. I want to inquire about someone from you."
"Who?"
"Director Lu."
Ever since Chen Yin had mentioned Fu Yuan Orphanage, Qiao En had Detective Wu looking into it.
Unexpectedly, this orphanage was connected to An Jinrong.
And its director, Lu Chunhua, had vanished without a trace, and no information about him could be found.
"What do you want him for?"
An Jinrong looked at Qiao En suspiciously; he seemed very cautious about this matter.
"I won’t lie to you. I spent some time there as a child before being adopted by kind-hearted people. Now, I want to find my biological parents. I heard that only Director Lu has the information I need, so..."
Qiao En fabricated a lie that seemed reasonable.
The orphanage took in children who had no parents. Some children were fortunate to be adopted by kind-hearted people, while others were like dandelions, drifting into society.
Qiao En didn’t know what had happened fifteen years ago, or why the orphanage disappeared as soon as An Jinrong left Rong City.
Right now, all she wanted was to find Director Lu.
"Director Lu has passed away." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
An Jinrong lied.
But Detective Wu had checked—the information on Lu Chunhua was still available at the police station, meaning he should still be alive, though perhaps living under a different identity.
An Jinrong lying must have been with the intention to cover something up.
"Then I might not be able to help Director An, please ask someone else."
Having said that, Qiao En stood up and began walking out.
"Are you really looking for him for that reason?"
"Director An, you’re not an orphan, you don’t understand the plight of orphans. Everyone has parents, why am I the only one without? I’ve grown up and want to find them, to understand why I was abandoned."
Qiao En’s eyes filled with tears, and as she spoke emotionaly, the tears began to flow.
An Jinrong remained silent; Qiao En paused, her shoulders slightly trembling.
"Director An, you must know where Director Lu is, right?"
"Of course, I know."
After a long while, An Jinrong responded.
Qiao En turned around, wiping the tears off her cheeks, "Don’t worry, Director An, I will make sure to accomplish the task you’ve assigned me."
Qiao En solemnly made the promise.
An Jinrong finally relaxed.
"Go to the An family and find Butler Han, he knows."
