Plunder-Chapter 153: Finding Su Nian
Chen Yin’s car was moving too fast and suddenly crashed into the railing.
At the same time, the motorcycle screeched to a halt.
"Yun Jiejie, are you okay?"
Zhou Jin’an asked caringly.
His arms were still around Qiao En, her feet off the ground, legs weak, her entire body weight leaning on Zhou Jin’an’s arms.
Chen Yin was stunned; she could not believe that Zhou Jin’an would find her here.
"Director... Director Zhou..."
She opened the car door, frantically trying to get out.
"Secretary Chen, as of now, you are dismissed."
Zhou Jin’an’s expression was cold, his gaze piercing.
His voice was magnetic, entering Chen Yin’s ears like a bolt from the blue.
"Why? Why would you dismiss me?"
Her eyes were red, full of grievance.
"I have worked diligently at Nanchen for five years, with neither recognition of my achievements nor compensation for my efforts. Are you dismissing me now, without any distinction, just for this woman?"
But Zhou Jin’an just coldly glanced at her, "I’ve said, I like her, and I won’t allow anyone to bully the person I like. Secretary Chen, you did it knowingly; isn’t that reason enough?"
The woman he liked, therefore, untouchable by others.
Chen Yin’s eyelids drooped, her fists clenched tightly.
"Why? Why do you have to protect her like this?"
Chen Yin asked bitterly, her voice low.
But Zhou Jin’an couldn’t be bothered to answer her.
He turned back to Qiao En, removed his helmet, and, with a proud air, placed it on Qiao En.
"Yun Jiejie, let’s go home."
He mounted the motorcycle again, patted the rear seat, inviting Qiao En, "Yun Jiejie, come on up. The wind is strong today, it feels so good."
Qiao En turned and gave Chen Yin a deep, meaningful look.
Without hesitation, she climbed onto the motorcycle, and Zhou Jin’an authoritatively pulled her hands around him, embracing his waist.
"Yun Jiejie, sit tight, we’re heading off."
He shouted excitedly.
The bike shot off like an arrow, swiftly heading towards the distance.
Behind them, Chen Yin’s figure became smaller and smaller.
Back at Chengnan Apartment, Qiao En didn’t let Zhou Jin’an inside.
"Go back to Chu Garden with Cheng Lu. I need some time alone."
"Yun Jiejie, I want to stay with you, please let me stay with you?"
Zhou Jin’an coaxed, shaking Qiao En’s arm.
But Qiao En was adamantly firm, "I’m very tired and want to rest early."
That night, after everything she had experienced, she truly needed to rest well.
"Then have a good night’s sleep, and I’ll come to see you tomorrow. Yun Jiejie, if you can’t sleep, just tell me, and I’ll come to keep you company."
Qiao En nodded.
Cheng Lu was downstairs, and only then did Zhou Jin’an reluctantly leave.
Less than half an hour after he left, Qiao En contacted Detective Wu.
"Help me look into Chen Yin."
The next morning, Qiao En received a packet of files from Detective Wu, containing all the information about Chen Yin.
However, strangely, it only covered the last five years.
Where she was and what she had experienced before those five years remained completely untraceable.
But Qiao En already had her answer.
She had planned to meet Chen Yin, but unexpectedly, Chen Yin took the initiative to come to her.
There was a knock at the door, Qiao En stood up and saw Chen Yin standing outside.
She opened the door, and Chen Yin’s lips curled into a cold smirk.
"Surprised to see me?"
"Not at all, I knew you would come to me," replied Qiao En.
Qiao En walked toward the living room, Chen Yin entered and followed her there.
They settled on the couch.
Chen Yin’s gaze constantly surveyed everything in the house, "I didn’t expect you to live in such a place. I thought you would have already moved to Director Zhou’s Chu Garden by now."
"Perhaps that’s where you’d most like to be?"
Qiao En retorted.
Chen Yin pulled a cigarette out of her bag, and in front of Qiao En, she lit one.
At this moment, Chen Yin exuded an unfamiliar aura that enveloped Qiao En.
Before, she was methodical and understated, a quintessential career-oriented office lady.
But now, she appeared lazy and undisciplined, with a rebellious look in her eyes.
Yet, it was this Chen Yin that Qiao En found incredibly real.
"I really wanted to go, but—"
"But you’re not eligible."
Qiao En finished Chen Yin’s sentence.
That statement was quite direct.
Their gazes met, and anger was already simmering in Chen Yin’s eyes.
But years of workplace experience had taught her to keep her emotions concealed.
"I don’t have it, and you won’t either."
Chen Yin stubbed her cigarette out on the surface of the coffee table.
The atmosphere in the room felt a bit strange, even oppressive.
Qiao En fixed her gaze intently on Chen Yin and suddenly asked, "Su Nian, why are you doing this?"
Chen Yin’s hand, pressing on the cigarette butt, paused.
A flicker of panic crossed her eyes, but she quickly composed herself.
"You’ve got the wrong name. I am Chen Yin."
She raised her eyebrows, and her eyes were soft like water.
"You might be called Chen Yin now, having changed your appearance and your records, but that can’t change the fact that you are Su Nian. You’ve gone through so much effort, what exactly is it for?"
Qiao En just looked at Chen Yin, her stare making Chen Yin uncomfortable.
She opened her cigarette pack again, lit another cigarette, and took deep drags.
"You say I am Su Nian, but what proof do you have?"
Chen Yin asked, her lips curling into a smirk.
She had changed her appearance, her voice, her background, and for many years, no one had seen through it all. Yet now, this extremely ordinary woman sitting before her had discovered her secret.
"That photo."
Qiao En replied truthfully.
"Turning a woman you despise into your look-alike, how narcissistic must you be!"
Upon hearing this, Chen Yin suddenly laughed.
"Having them as my stand-ins is great!"
"And what about yourself? Whose stand-in are you playing now?"
Qiao En pressed on, but Chen Yin did not answer. She took a harsh drag of her cigarette, which made her cough continuously.
"Does it really matter? Everyone knows I’m Chen Yin now, and I’m quite pleased with this identity."
"Then why don’t you be yourself?" Qiao En asked again.
"Ha."
Chen Yin laughed loudly, but it sounded very desolate.
"I wish I could be myself too, but can I?"
She counter-questioned, with a tear unexpectedly streaming down her cheek.
"Jin’an and I loved each other so much. He brought me back to his country, saying he wanted to give me a home, but what was the result? Everyone rejected my identity, thinking I was unworthy of Jin’an, forcing us to break up. What was the point of being that Su Nian?"
What exactly had happened five years ago, nobody knew.
Qiao En had never heard Jin’an mention this past, but the pain was evident on Chen Yin’s face.
"Weren’t you supposed to be dead five years ago?"
Chen Yin looked intently at Qiao En, "Right, I indeed died, and they even erected a tombstone for me! Unfortunately, contrary to their wishes, I still survived."
"They would never expect that I’m still alive, and moreover, I’ve always stayed close to Jin’an, getting closer and closer. I believe that one day, he will fall in love with me just like before."
"We will get married, and I will be his only lawful wife. I will bear him many children, and he will spend his entire life with me."
Chen Yin seemed almost insane, each frown and smile appearing terrifying.
Yet it also made her seem pitiable.
A woman struck by the poison of love, entering a delirium, meets nothing but a deep abyss of no return.
"This isn’t love, it’s a prison."
"What do you know?" Chen Yin snapped angrily.
"Do you think he actually likes you? Miss Xu, you’re too naive. I’ll take you right now to see what the truth is."
Saying this, Chen Yin grabbed Qiao En’s hand and started heading out.
