Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Come to See Him

"He Peng?"

Auntie Jiang’s hands didn’t stop moving as she continued to stay busy.

Qiao En felt a surge of shock, "How did you know?"

Auntie Jiang let out a slight sigh, "At the recycling station, you were looking at a newspaper related to the president of Nanchen Group. Seeing how nervous you were, I guessed you must know that person. Little Xu, if you’ve thought it over and want to go back, I’m willing to do anything for you."

For a moment, Qiao En didn’t know what to say, her heart overwhelmed by a great surge of warmth.

"Auntie Jiang, thank you."

After Auntie Jiang helped Qiao En tidy up her things, she immediately contacted He Peng.

The next morning, He Peng appeared at Auntie Jiang’s house.

Just like last time, he came carrying gifts, both big and small.

Auntie Jiang still didn’t think much of him, opened the yard door, and spoke to him coldly, "Come in, I have something to say to you."

With an awkward smile on his face, He Peng was actually about the same age as Auntie Jiang, but he was quite afraid of her because of his connection to Little Xu.

"Okay."

He nodded and followed Auntie Jiang’s steps into the house.

Qiao En had prepared tea in the kitchen and brought it to him, talking in forced Mandarin, "Mr. He, here’s your tea."

"Thank you, thank you."

He Peng glanced up, his gaze briefly sweeping over Qiao En’s face.

He still didn’t recognize her.

Auntie Jiang sat firmly at the head of the table, her face stern, and asked, "How high is your position at Nanchen?"

He Peng was taken aback, he hesitated before responding, "I’m in the finance department, as a director."

"Do you have much power?"

He Peng was a bit confused, but answered whatever Auntie Jiang asked, "In the finance department, my power is the greatest, but within the whole Nanchen, not so much."

"You can arrange for someone to get a job at Nanchen, can’t you?" Auntie Jiang asked again.

He Peng let out a sigh of relief, smiling slightly, "Don’t worry. After your son graduates from college, I will definitely arrange for him to join Nanchen, and I will personally teach him."

Initially, Qiao En had let him off the hook, demanding he promise to take good care of Little Xu’s family.

Fortunately, he had a bit of conscience and had kept his promise.

"I’m not talking about Zi Xuan."

Auntie Jiang’s brow furrowed, seemingly unconcerned.

"Then who is it?"

He Peng looked puzzled, then turned his gaze toward Qiao En.

The current Qiao En was indeed an unremarkable person lost in the crowd.

Dressed simply, with an ordinary appearance, she was very sensible, not uttering a word while Auntie Jiang spoke with He Peng.

"This is my daughter’s cousin, named Xu Yayun. Find a way to get her a position at Nanchen." Auntie Jiang stated her request.

He Peng looked at Qiao En, asking, "Miss Xu, could you tell me about your basic situation?"

Originally, Qiao En had entrusted Detective Wu with finding her a new identity.

At the time, she was only concerned with escaping and hadn’t thought too much about it.

Qiao En had only one requirement, the new identity had to be low-profile.

Detective Wu was efficient; he quickly secured the identity of Xu Yayun for her.

An orphan, who had dropped out of high school.

Although this identity was low-profile, it was now a bit embarrassing for Qiao En.

"High school dropout, no special skills."

Qiao En answered truthfully.

He Peng’s eyebrows knitted together, he seemed troubled.

Nanchen Group was a prestigious company in Rong City, and the employees they hired were at the very least college graduates. With her level of schooling, she probably wouldn’t even qualify for a cleaning job.

"What? You can’t do it?"

Auntie Jiang raised her voice, putting pressure on He Peng.

"My daughter died at Nanchen, and you told me not to make a fuss, which I obliged. Now arranging a job for my niece is too much to ask for?"

"No, don’t misunderstand, I’ll take care of it, I’ll arrange it right away."

As he spoke, He Peng pulled out his cell phone in front of Auntie Jiang and began to make a call.

Qiao En overheard him contacting Zhang Dewang from the HR department. He Peng deliberately wanted to place Qiao En in the finance department, but as everyone knows, the finance department not only requires a high level of education but also business capabilities.

After much back-and-forth, He Peng’s progress wasn’t very smooth.

In the end, it seemed Zhang Dewang couldn’t resist further, and he relented, "There’s an opening in the cleaning department right now. If she’s willing, you can bring her over to start the job."

After hanging up the phone, He Peng looked at Qiao En and negotiated with her, "The company is strict with academic qualifications for recruitment. How about this? You start in the cleaning department, and while you work there, I’ll figure something out about the educational requirements. When an opportunity arises, I’ll transfer you to the finance department. How does that sound?"

"The cleaning department? You want Yayun to mop floors? To do that kind of menial work? Mr. He, do you have any sincerity at all? Did my daughter die for nothing?"

Auntie Jiang’s face instantly clouded over with anger; she wanted to fight for a better deal for Qiao En.

But Qiao En agreed at once, "Okay, I’ll go to the cleaning department."

"Alright, alright, then I’ll arrange it now."

He Peng let out a sigh of relief and immediately proceeded with the arrangements.

The matter was settled swiftly.

"I’ll go with you today."

Qiao En added.

Without thinking much, He Peng said, "Sure, it’s good to go today too. I’ll arrange a place for you to stay, and tomorrow you can start work."

Without a moment’s delay, Qiao En was ready to leave.

Before getting into the car, Auntie Jiang took out a stack of money from her pocket and handed it to Qiao En, "Little Xu, take good care of yourself while you’re out there. Come back soon."

After half a year of being together, she had come to regard Qiao En as her own daughter.

Qiao En hugged Auntie Jiang, "Auntie, I will come back to see you soon."

She didn’t take the money and stuffed it back to Auntie Jiang.

The car started and headed towards Rong City.

Gu Yuan grew distant, Rong City drew nearer; she had tried so hard to escape before, but now she was returning of her own volition.

Before nightfall, they arrived at Rong City.

He Peng first settled Qiao En into a hotel, "Little Xu, you’ll stay here tonight. Tomorrow, after I’ve arranged a house for you, you can move there. Tomorrow morning, take a taxi directly to Nanchen Group. I’ve made arrangements there, call me if you need anything."

"Okay."

Qiao En took He Peng’s business card and thanked him.

He still hadn’t recognized her.

After returning to her hotel room, Qiao En changed into black clothes, put on a cap, and a mask, then she immediately left. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

The hotel wasn’t far from Central Hospital, so she took a taxi and arrived in about ten minutes.

As soon as she arrived at the hospital, Qiao En ran into Cheng Lu.

He was on his phone and walking in hurriedly.

Of course, he didn’t notice Qiao En.

Qiao En followed his pace into the building, joining him in the elevator to the inpatient department.

He pressed for the fifteenth floor, and Qiao En chose the sixteenth floor.

There were several other people in the elevator, who left one by one, until only Qiao En and Cheng Lu remained.

He seemed to sense something was off and his gaze swept toward Qiao En.

Qiao En pretended to listen to music with her earphones on, her gaze lowered.

But her heart kept thumping uncontrollably.

Cheng Lu watched her for a long time, then as soon as the elevator stopped on the fifteenth floor, he dashed out.

Qiao En quickly clutched at her chest, her palms sweaty with fear.

When she reached the sixteenth floor, she used the stairs to descend to the floor where Zhou Jin’an was staying.

However, as soon as she stepped out from the stairwell, Qiao En was stunned.

The whole floor was guarded by bodyguards; it was impossible for her to get close.

She watched from the stairwell for a while, and as she was about to turn and leave, a voice came through.

"Who’s there?"
