Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 454: I Thought It Was Her
"I thought it was her," Xander Linton said.
Isla Lawson completely broke down.
She hung up on Xander, crying hysterically.
It turned out she had always lived in the glory brought by Serena, much of what she had was because of Serena.
But she thought it was because of herself.
She thought it was her own ability, her own skills.
Proud and arrogant.
...
Meanwhile.
Silas Hawthorne’s car had already reached the ground above.
The car moved forward, while Serena kept looking out the window.
Her long eyelashes curled upwards.
She no longer looked as she did in the underground parking lot, just staring out the window, lost in thought.
The street scenes quickly retreated.
Just like her past.
Constantly being left behind.
Silas in the driver’s seat stopped at a red light to glance at Serena beside him.
He saw her injured profile.
His brows furrowed slightly.
From the moment she got in the car, he noticed the injury on her face, but seeing she didn’t want to talk, he didn’t ask.
He only glanced at Isla on the ground from the corner of his eye as he drove away.
The countdown on the traffic light ticked down.
She didn’t speak, nor did he, just silently watched her.
"Beep beep—"
Until the car behind honked, Silas withdrew his gaze and restarted the car, moving forward.
There was an intersection ahead.
Midway, Silas stopped the car.
"Wait for me a moment," Silas said to Serena.
"Okay," Serena replied softly.
She watched Silas run to a nearby pharmacy.
She withdrew her gaze, took out her phone, and made a call to someone.
At that moment, in the pharmacy, Silas asked June Hawthorne over the phone what had happened while asking the shop assistant for medicine.
June recounted what had just happened in the parking lot.
Isla Lawson.
Silas gripped his phone tightly.
He stood there, looking distantly toward the car.
After a while, Silas returned to the car with medicine and ice packs.
"Let’s wait here for a bit, the driver will come to take over soon," Silas said.
Serena nodded, got out to sit in the back seat together.
Silas carefully applied the ice pack to Serena’s swollen face, watching her flinch slightly.
His eyes were filled with distress.
After a while, he applied medicine to her injuries.
Looking at Serena’s wounds, Silas pressed his lips tightly together.
Serena may not hold Isla accountable, but he couldn’t let it go.
"Did you hit her back?" Silas suddenly asked.
Serena was slightly stunned, she never expected Silas to ask that.
After all, he was always so elegant and gentle.
But then, she said, "I did hit back."
He looked into her eyes, "Did you hit her hard?"
She smiled slightly, "Very hard, I knocked her flat on her face."
"That’s good," Silas said, looking at the injury on her face.
Their eyes met, a silent understanding between them.
Silas looked at Serena’s profile, admiringly saying, "Serena, the veil over your brilliance has finally been lifted, now they can finally see your light."
"Hmm," Serena responded, looking in the mirror at her face.
"What are your plans afterward?" Silas asked with a smile.
"I want to have some desserts from that mother-daughter shop," Serena replied.
Silas chuckled, knowing that wasn’t what he was referring to.
"And, Silas," she turned, looking up at him, "my face is a bit swollen, will it look bad for our wedding photos in a few days?"
She didn’t want to think about things too far away.
Many things were too complicated.
Her future was clear, to rebuild the Sheridan Family and uncover the truth of her father’s death.
She felt a bit weary, needing a moment to breathe.
So, for now, she would focus on what’s in front of her.
The little desserts and the upcoming wedding photoshoot.
This was her first time doing an outdoor wedding shoot.
"Let me see," Silas said as he closely examined her face, then suddenly laughed.
"Why are you laughing?" Serena asked curiously.
"I was just thinking," Silas said, looking into Serena’s eyes.
He softly touched Serena’s face and said, "I’m so lucky to be by your side."
When he saw the links Xander had sent him via June Hawthorne.
He thanked the heavens for giving him the opportunity.
Serena looked at him, and in his eyes, she saw the stirring of emotions.
Without any hesitation, she kissed his lips.
"Me too," she said.
The two locked eyes, understanding each other’s feelings without needing words.
"Let’s go have some cupcakes," Silas said, "Meanwhile, I’ll ask Secretary Sawyer to find some special ointment for your face."
"Serena, don’t worry, we’ll have makeup by then, and even if the photos don’t turn out well, we can always take more than one set."
He cupped her face and said, "We can take as many wedding photos as we want, visit all the places we dream of seeing, and go everywhere we want to go."
Serena smiled and nodded.
"Once the matters with the Sheridan Family are settled, Silas, let’s take Seraphina on a lovely trip," she said.
"Alright," Silas agreed.
Not long after, the driver arrived, and the car started, taking the two of them to the dessert shop.
Throughout the journey, their hands remained tightly clasped together.
...
Abroad.
Julian Lawson was also watching the video Xander Linton sent.
He watched the events that took place after he left.
Listening to her repeat her love for him with every breath.
Watching her eyes filled with love whenever she looked at him.
Julian Lawson gazed at the seaside view.
Remembering many things from the past.
He recalled her once asking him, "Julian, do you love me?"
He remembered his answer, "Yes, I do."
"How much do you love me?" she continued to press.
"Very, very much," he replied.
"Okay," she laughed, looking at him with those eyes, and said, "Julian, I believe you."
The very next day after she asked him these questions, rumors spread about him being intimate with Vera Hansen.
How much love?
How deep was his love?
Perhaps at that time, she had learned something, felt uneasy, and that’s why she asked him.
If only he had paid more attention to her back then.
If only he hadn’t neglected her because of Vera Hansen.
Would things have turned out differently today?
Julian Lawson felt a wave of sadness.
He must catch Preston Langley!
He must find Serena!
The tide was still rising, and Julian Lawson stood watching the sea, as still as a sculpture.
"Bzz bzz bzz..."
Just then, his phone rang.
He answered, "This is Julian Lawson."
The person on the line informed him that the matters on their side had been successfully resolved.
"Good."
Julian Lawson sent a message to Jude Chaucer.
[Book me a flight back home, now.]
Jude Chaucer quickly replied, "Yes!"
Julian Lawson stood up, took one last look at the sea, turned around, and headed to the airport.
...
Time slowly passed.
Yet in Aeston, chaos erupted.
Due to the exposure of Vernon Gates’ PDF, everyone knew that the false information about Aether was spread by Isla Lawson.
Add to that the fact that Aether was unharmed and it was confirmed that both the Ford Family and the Hawthorne Family were on board, and after thorough testing, the cars were very stable, leading many to start protesting.
"What is Isla Lawson doing? Did the Lawson Family spread false information deliberately because they wanted in?"
"The Lawson Family must offer a solution, or this won’t end!"
"Exactly, we missed a perfectly good investment opportunity because of the Lawson Family’s misinformation, they owe us an explanation!"
...
Countless people started heading to The Lawson Corporation.
Currently, Julian Lawson was abroad, and Caleb Lawson was recovering at home, so they couldn’t be reached directly.
But Caleb Lawson and others’ phones were constantly ringing off the hook.
At this moment, Isla Lawson was sent back to Moonlight Manor.
Serena called someone from The Lawson Corporation to have them bring Isla back.
When Secretary Langley arrived at the underground garage, she saw Isla Lawson crying there.
She thought something had happened and quickly went to check.
Fortunately, Isla Lawson had only been slapped once, although it was quite hard, besides that, she was fine.
However, Isla Lawson seemed to have reached a breaking point.
"Miss Lawson, Miss Lawson, what happened to you? Who hit you?" Secretary Langley asked anxiously, "We’ll make them pay!"
But Isla Lawson just shook her head.
What right did she have to take revenge on Serena?
Many of the things she received were given to her by Serena.
Seeing her in such a daze made Secretary Langley feel a bit flustered.
"Miss Lawson, what’s really going on? Don’t scare me," Secretary Langley asked, very worried.
