I Became the Eye Candy: Four Bigshots Claimed to be My Dad?-Chapter 100: Dean Chen’s Anxious Wait
The carriage traveled all the way to the foot of Lou Mountain. Having received the news yesterday, Dean Chen had gotten dressed before dawn today. He prepared the items for the apprenticeship ceremony and, without even eating breakfast, led some of the academy’s instructors to the entrance to wait with eager anticipation.
When no one had arrived by noon, he sent people down the mountain to greet them, but they waited for half the day to no avail.
Growing impatient, he began to walk further down the path himself. He made it all the way to the foot of the mountain, but there wasn’t a single carriage on any of the main roads.
After waiting for about another hour, he finally spotted the General’s carriage. A look of delight washed over his face, and he hurried forward to greet it with a broad smile.
"General, we’re here," the guard said, stopping the carriage.
Inside the carriage, four of the five occupants were sound asleep. Ye Qianning was genuinely exhausted, and the aroma of the Immortal’s Drunk wine only made her sleep more soundly.
Zhan Chi was also fast asleep. Xiang Minghou, who enjoyed wine himself, had unwittingly drifted off after taking in the aroma for a while.
When the young man first boarded the carriage, he’d deeply regretted his decision. Before long, however, the scent of the wine had made him feel intoxicated, and he’d fallen fast asleep with his head tilted back.
Gu Shuo was the only one who was mostly awake. His gaze had been fixed on Ye Qianning for almost the entire journey, his mind replaying the moment of her collision with Zhan Chi. After mulling it over, he came to a conclusion.
’This child knows martial arts, and she’s very good at them!’
’In that situation, even he wouldn’t have been able to dodge it. But a mere child managed to?’
’The Old Master isn’t one to cause a scene for no reason. Making such a fuss just to adopt a great-granddaughter... there must be more to it.’
’I’ll have to ask the Old Master about this when I get back!’
"General?" the guard called out again.
"Oh, you’ve finally arrived!" Dean Chen had already reached the side of the carriage.
The guard rubbed his nose, looking a bit embarrassed. He raised a hand and knocked heavily on the carriage door, his voice much louder this time. "General, we’ve arrived at Lou Mountain!"
The occupants of the carriage startled awake. Xiang Minghou rubbed his eyes. ’Are we here?’
He nudged Zhan Chi with his foot, then bumped the sleeping young man with his shoulder. Finally, he called out softly, "Pangtuan."
Ye Qianning woke up as well. She sat up and stretched. ’That was a great nap.’
Dean Chen waited for several minutes before the carriage door finally opened and Xiang Minghou stepped out.
"My apologies for the long wait, Dean Chen," Xiang Minghou said with a respectful bow.
"Not at all, not at all! Where’s the little girl?"
Dean Chen was so focused on seeing Ye Qianning that he didn’t mind the delay, but the instructors trailing behind him couldn’t help but grumble to themselves. ’The sky’s almost dark. What does he mean, "not at all"? We’ve been waiting forever!’
"Get out of the carriage," Xiang Minghou said in a low voice.
Dean Chen, assuming it was Ye Qianning, smilingly reached out to help. But the person who emerged next was the young man from his academy.
"Dean," the young man mumbled, his face flushed and his eyes hazy.
Dean Chen’s hands froze. "I sent you to receive our guests, and you went drinking instead? Are you not aware that alcohol is forbidden for students of the academy?"
"Dean, I didn’t drink anything." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"You reek of wine, and you still say you didn’t drink? Go back and copy the student code of conduct fifty times."
"But Dean, I really didn’t!"
Dean Chen shot him a fierce glare.
The young man wailed internally.
Another sound came from the carriage, and Dean Chen once again reached out his hands—only for Gu Shuo to step down.
"Dean Chen, it’s been a while."
"...The Gu family boy?" Dean Chen asked in surprise. Immediately after, another large hand grabbed the doorframe, and a hazy, drunken face appeared.
The instructors: "..."
The teachers: "..."
’Just how many people are in this carriage?’
Dean Chen was on the verge of a breakdown. ’Did the little girl even come or not?’
"Dean."
The sweet voice was like a key unlocking Dean Chen’s heart.
Dean Chen was instantly overjoyed. He looked inside the carriage to see a cute, chubby little girl peeking out. "Little girl, you’ve finally arrived! Come, let your master give you a hug."
