Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 396: A Decision Like Father’s Back Then
Serena and Silas Hawthorne were in the car.
Silas looked at Serena beside him, noticing a hint of moisture at the corner of her eyes.
He thought for a moment and decided to share something he had pondered for a long time with Serena.
"Serena," Silas called her name.
"Hmm?" Serena turned her head, looking up at him.
Behind Silas was scenery continuously moving away, dim streetlights speeding past and quickly left behind.
She saw him smile slightly and say, "Recently, I’ve been learning some relevant courses, about how to cultivate an heir."
Even before Silas finished speaking, Serena had a premonition, as if she knew what he was about to say.
"Although Seraphina is still young, I think we can start with some simple courses now." Silas continued smiling, his eyes deep and gentle, "Step by step, let her inherit everything from us in the future."
Serena didn’t know what to say.
Seraphina and Silas are not biologically related, and neither is she.
Seraphina is her daughter.
Of course, Serena intended to give everything she had to Seraphina, but the Hawthorne Family still had June, Orion, and the other Hawthornes.
"Is this okay?" Serena asked.
Silas smiled indifferently and said, "You know, the Hawthorne Group as it stands today mainly relies on the wealth I accumulated over the years at sea. These are fundamentally mine."
"Seraphina is our daughter, so it’s only natural that we give her our belongings."
Silas smiled as he reached out to tidy Serena’s hair.
"Don’t worry, over the years, I have shared things with June and Orion too. Just because our relationship is good, everyone thinks we haven’t sorted things out, but actually, they have their assets. They are managing their industries."
"What I’m giving Seraphina is my belonging."
Serena still didn’t immediately agree.
Her nose felt sore, and her eyes grew slightly moist.
Back then, her father had also told her that she was his heir, that everything he had was hers, and he put effort into grooming her.
Unfortunately...
She looked at Silas, and at some point, her other hand had already rested on her stomach.
Moments later, another large hand covered the back of her hand.
It was Silas’s hand.
His palm was warm and dry.
"I’m sorry," Serena softly said.
"You don’t need to apologize to me," Silas said. "I should be the one thanking you for giving me the chance to be by your side."
Serena kept her head down and didn’t speak.
Silas let out a long sigh, stretched out his hand, pulled her into his arms, allowing her to lean on his shoulder.
The partition in the car had already been raised, providing a strong sense of privacy in the back seat.
But the two of them didn’t speak for a long time.
Even though they didn’t speak, they understood each other’s feelings.
After a while, Silas suddenly spoke up.
"Serena, let me tell you a secret." Silas said, his chest vibrating.
"What?" Serena raised her head to glance at him.
"I like you both emotionally and physically," Silas said.
Serena’s face turned red instantly. She reached out and gave him a light punch, "What are you talking about!"
"I was afraid you didn’t know, so I made a point to tell you." Silas said seriously, without any joking or teasing.
"Telling you this is to let you know that when I cling to you at night, it’s because I like you."
Not because I desperately want a child.
From the very beginning, he was aware of her physical condition; having a child would be great, but if not, it wasn’t an issue.
It was all his choice.
So she didn’t need to feel guilty.
Serena’s face turned even redder.
Good thing the partition was up, the driver couldn’t hear, or else she would have wanted to find a hole to crawl into.
Although Silas said it seriously, and she understood what he meant, she still felt shy.
The car drove all the way into Hawthorne Manor and stopped.
Face flushed, Serena quickly opened the car door and got out, glaring at Silas as she walked away.
Silas smiled helplessly.
He had previously asked Bianca Lynch about Serena’s physical condition.
Bianca had straightforwardly said that if one forced the idea of having children, Serena might suffer.
Taking shots, medication, undergoing treatments and such.
It’s very likely that even after going through all that hardship, it might still not happen.
He couldn’t bear for Serena to suffer these hardships, so whether they have a child or not would happen naturally.
He had already planned to nurture Seraphina well.
Like he told Serena, Seraphina is also his daughter.
Even with no blood relation, so what?
...
Time slowly passed by.
After a few days.
On this day, Aether suddenly had new movements.
On this morning, Brandon Huxley updated his personal status.
Brandon Huxley: Aether will be having a live broadcast at noon, announcing an important update. Stay tuned, everyone.
Everyone speculated about what the message could be, discussing enthusiastically.
Whereas at Aeon, Serena was already aware.
Being one of Aether’s shareholders, she was clear about the company’s developments, not to mention Emeric Grant having her assistance.
At this moment, she merely walked out and looked at the people working diligently.
Raine approached her.
"Serena."
Serena nodded and looked at Raine, "Did you prepare all the things I asked you to?"
Raine responded immediately, "Yes, everything is ready."
"Good," Serena said.
...
On the other side, at The Lawson Corporation.
Isla Lawson had already returned to work at the company.
However, recently she was feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Disposing of overseas assets wasn’t going smoothly, and lately, she had been receiving many calls. The external market was harshly driving prices down, which annoyed her greatly.
Meanwhile, upon returning to work, her secretary immediately showed her the previous loss reports.
Earlier, she had tossed the data reports aside without a glance, but upon looking now, she almost fainted.
Because initially, she was defiant, delaying actions which led to losses, later insisting on driving down copper prices resulted in massive losses; if it weren’t for Julian Lawson’s timely intervention, the losses would have been greater.
However, she wouldn’t admit it.
Recently, people at the company had been whispering about her.
For instance, the last time she visited a department, she overheard people talking about her.
"You see, Miss Isla is just too emotional, her misjudgment last time resulted in significant losses."
"Fortunately, President Lawson had a clear mind and stopped everything in time, otherwise..."
"Hasn’t she handled numerous company affairs? Plus, she graduated from a prestigious overseas university, how could she still make such mistakes?"
"I don’t know, I think..."
...
All of this made Isla Lawson feel agitated.
So she took out her frustration and anger on Serena.
Recently, she had been pressuring Aether in various ways.
She knew it couldn’t be done outright.
So she could only operate secretly.
Using her personal connections to do so.
There were people now considering jumping ship to this side, some even secretly passed messages to her, and also, the regulators have been giving Aether a hard time.
If this continued, she didn’t believe Aether could remain unscathed.
A company, tossed around repeatedly, would slowly dissolve.
The names Lawson Family, Isla Lawson, and Miss Lawson still carried weight.
And at this time, noon arrived.
Aether once again started a live broadcast, with Brandon Huxley and Emeric Grant appearing in the live room together.
They both wore smiles on their faces.
"Very pleased to announce to everyone," Brandon Huxley said with a smile, "that our research has made progress, or in layman’s terms, we’ve achieved a technological breakthrough."
