Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 395: Taking Silas Hawthorne to the Cemetery
Serena Sterling looked at Isla Lawson’s twisted face.
"All you can do is use these things to mock me." Serena said.
"The fall of the Sheridan Family definitely made my path harder, but what my father left me, you may never understand or have in your lifetime."
"Just like now, standing here, our circumstances are different, and that’s the distinction."
Serena was not angered by Isla; she spoke these words very calmly.
But Isla felt that everything Serena said was just to ridicule her.
"Serena! You only won this time by luck, and you’re already over the moon." She said.
Serena laughed.
"Really?" Serena said softly.
"Yes!" Isla said with certainty.
"Alright, it was luck." Serena still wore a smile, "Then let’s see if I’ll have the same good luck next time."
Isla gritted her teeth and said nothing.
The two of them stared at each other like that.
Finally, it was Isla’s phone that rang; she had been out for a long time.
Serena glanced at Isla’s phone and said, "I should get going too."
She walked around Isla towards the exit of the restroom, and before leaving, she said to Isla with her back turned, "Isla Lawson, I said before, there is no fundamental conflict between us. I’m not your enemy."
"It’s just that you treat me as your enemy."
Serena walked towards the hallway outside, leaving one last sentence: "Learn a bit about emotional management. Once you calm down and look at everything that’s happened recently, you might understand it differently."
With that, Serena left, leaving behind Isla’s furious screams.
Isla was almost exploding with anger.
Who did Serena think she was to dare point fingers at her!
She only won by a stroke of luck just this once!
Isla didn’t believe Serena could be so lucky every time!
Isla held her phone tightly; this was Aeston, and the Lawson Corporation was the leader among the top three giants. In terms of technology, it was undoubtedly them, the Lawson Corporation.
What was Aether even!
And Aeon was nothing at all!
Even if Emeric Grant had already rejected her invitation, as long as the Lawson Corporation applied pressure and set obstacles, Aether would still have to obey.
Isla thought that, for now, everyone only knew about the forced retreats and losses ordered by Julian Lawson; they knew nothing else.
And that was Julian’s order, not hers, Isla’s! And not many people were aware.
As long as she secretly sold some overseas assets and kept things under wraps, no one would know.
She hadn’t lost yet!
On the other side, Serena had already returned to the private room.
"Sorry, I took a bit longer." Serena said to Thea Lloyd, "I ran into Isla Lawson in the restroom."
"Did she give you a hard time?" Thea asked.
Serena shook her head.
"She’s in a bad mood," Serena said.
Thea shot Serena a sidelong glance, "Seeing you, she’d be in a bad mood, no wonder."
Serena was amused too.
"True." Serena said with a smile.
The two chatted about other matters, and before long, the meal came to an end, with both sides preparing to leave.
Just as they were about to leave, Silas Hawthorne came to pick up Serena.
The two sat in the back seat together on the way back.
Serena leaned against the seat, watching the quickly passing scenery outside, and thoughts of her father returned.
Memories of when her father was still around, teaching her everything by hand.
What she learned was not even a tenth of what her father knew, yet it influenced her entire life.
Back then, she was still young.
Both she and her father thought there was still a long, long time ahead.
But reality dealt them a harsh blow.
"Silas, I want to visit the cemetery." Serena said.
"Alright." Silas instructed the driver to turn around and head towards the cemetery.
The sky had already turned dark.
Serena went up first, with Silas following behind, knowing that Serena needed some time and space, so he went to purchase offerings, staying behind.
Serena arrived at her father’s grave.
She reached out to sweep away the fallen leaves here, looking at Evan Sheridan’s picture on the gravestone, her eyes slightly red.
Over the years, she had come here many times.
Whenever she missed him, she would always come to visit.
Looking at the smiling face in the photo, it was as if he was smiling at her.
"Dad, if you were still here, I wonder what things would be like now." Serena said softly.
"I’ve been reminiscing a lot recently." Serena smiled, gently wiping away the tears from her eyes, "Back then, I always felt the coursework you gave me was too heavy, but now..."
"Recently, I founded Aeon. I want to restore the Sheridan Family. Dad, you’ll protect me like you used to, right?"
The breeze gently blew, moving Serena’s hair, just like Evan Sheridan gently patting her head.
Serena said a lot, for a long time. Silas had long bought the offerings but didn’t go up, just waited aside.
When he felt the time was right, and Serena had stood up, he brought the items over.
He handed the items to Serena.
No words were needed; Serena understood what Silas meant.
"Snap!" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Serena lit the lighter, burning items for her father.
"Oh, Dad, as I mentioned before, I divorced Julian Lawson and now I have someone new."
After placing everything into the fire, Serena stood up, holding Silas’s hand.
She looked at Evan Sheridan’s black-and-white photo, saying, "This is Silas, you know him, Silas Hawthorne. Dad, we’re getting married."
Silas returned the squeeze of Serena’s hand, speaking to the gravestone, "Uncle, I’ll take good care of Serena and get to the truth of what happened all those years ago, don’t worry."
The two stood, watching the fire slowly extinguish, then turned to walk in another direction.
They arrived at the graves of Serena’s two children.
There were signs someone had been here.
Serena slightly lowered her eyes, knowing who it was.
She ignored it, taking the paper money and various child-favored paper items from Silas’s hand and burning them for the two children.
"This is Uncle Silas." Serena said softly.
Silas also burned items.
"My name is Silas Hawthorne, nice to meet you, please take care of me." Silas said softly.
Once the flames were extinguished here as well, they stood up.
Serena gently touched the two gravestones.
Only after a long time did she say to Silas, "Let’s go back."
Silas nodded, holding Serena’s hand as they left together.
It wasn’t until they drove away from there that another car came out from the shadows.
Julian Lawson sat in the back seat, watching the two leave, with a darkness in his eyes.
Jude Chaucer quietly watched Julian Lawson in the back seat, letting out a long sigh.
The night was deep, and wind blew the leaves on both sides of the road, making a rustling sound.
The car moved forward, as everyone continued on their way.
