Piss Off, Alpha! You Lost Me Forever-Chapter 89 Choosing You
SOPHIA’S POV
I sat in that parking lot for another hour, staring at Damien’s beach photo. My wolf whimpered every time.
Every instinct told me to give up, to accept that I’d lost this battle like I’d lost so many others. But then my phone buzzed with a text from Lance’s cousin.
Lance is in the hospital. Someone attacked him outside his apartment. His hands are badly injured.
My blood turned to ice. His hands. ....A surgeon’s hands.
I had to find Damien. I had to make him listen to me.
I looked back at the photo, studying it more carefully this time. There was a resort sign visible in the background - Ocean Crest Beach Resort. I zoomed in on another photo Tiffany had posted. The hotel logo was clearly visible on a towel.
I pulled up flight information. There was one seat left on a flight leaving in two hours.
I didn’t think. I just drove straight to the airport, bought the ticket, and boarded the plane before I could talk myself out of it. My wolf was restless the entire flight. She kept pacing inside me.
When I landed three hours later, the sun was setting. I took a taxi straight to Ocean Crest Beach Resort. I couldn’t believe I did this. I couldn’t believe I was actually here.
The resort was massive and beautiful. The place was filled with white stone walls and crystal blue pools. It was definitely the kind of place Damien would choose for a romantic getaway with his mistress while his wife dealt with the fallout of his beta’s cruelty.
I walked into the lobby, unsure what to do next. I couldn’t just knock on every door until I found them. But I didn’t have to.
"Sophia?"
I turned and saw Nate standing near the elevator, looking surprised. He was wearing swim trunks and a resort robe, clearly just back from the beach.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, walking over.
I felt relieved seeing him.
"I need to see Damien," I said. "Where is he?"
Nate’s expression shifted to something like discomfort. "He’s at the beach. There’s a bonfire party happening. Sophia, maybe you should-"
"Take me there," I demanded. "Please, Nate. It’s urgent."
He studied my face for a moment, then sighed. "Follow me."
We walked through the resort grounds toward the beach. I could hear music and laughter growing louder as we got closer.
"They’re just past those palm trees," Nate said, pointing ahead. "Sophia, maybe you should wait and talk to Damien in the morning when everyone’s sober and-"
"I can’t wait," I said, already moving forward.
But before I could reach the bonfire, I heard Simon’s voice. He sounded drunk and loud.
That bastard.
I stopped behind a palm tree. Something made me pause and listen.
"I’m telling you, it was perfect," Simon was saying. He laughed "You should have seen the look on his face when they grabbed him." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Simon, that’s enough," Nate said. "You shouldn’t be talking about this."
"Why not? There’s nobody here but friends." Simon’s words were slightly slurred. "Besides, I’m proud of my work. That bleeding heart doctor thought he could defend Sophia, make Damien look weak, and get away with it? Please."
My whole body went rigid. I pressed myself against the palm tree. My wolf’s enhanced hearing picked up every word.
"What exactly did you do?" That was another male voice I didn’t recognize.
"Let’s just say our good doctor had an unfortunate accident outside his apartment last night” Simon said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. "Three guys jumped him, broke both his hands pretty badly”
My hand flew to my mouth to stifle a gasp. He was the one who did it. Both of Lance’s hands weren’t just injured—shattered.
"That’s too far, Simon," Nate said, and he actually sounded upset. "The guy’s a surgeon. You’ve ended his career."
"That was the point," Simon replied coldly. "You can’t perform surgery with crippled hands. He’ll never hold a scalpel again. Hell, he’ll be lucky if he can hold a fork."
"Jesus Christ," Nate muttered. "Does Damien know about this?"
There was a pause. "What Damien doesn’t know won’t hurt him. He’s got enough to worry about keeping his wife in line and his daughter happy."
"This is going to blow back on all of us," Nate said. "When Sophia finds out-"
"What’s she going to do?" Simon laughed again. "Run to her husband? He doesn’t care."
My wolf was snarling now. I felt her pushing against my control. My canines had lengthened without my permission, and I could feel my nails sharpening into claws. The rage I felt was so intense it made my vision blur.
"You’re a psychopath," Nate said quietly. "You know that, right?"
"I’m loyal," Simon corrected. "I protect what’s mine. Damien is my alpha, my best friend. If someone disrespects him, they pay the price. It’s that simple."
I couldn’t listen anymore. I stepped out from behind the palm tree. My whole body shook with anger.
Nate saw me first. His face went pale. "Sophia—"
Simon turned. His eyes widened slightly when he saw me, but then that smug smile returned. "Well, well. Speak of the devil”
"You had him attacked," I said.
"I have no idea what you’re talking about," Simon said, grinning.
"You’re lying," I snarled. "I heard everything. You just admitted it."
"Did I?" Simon tilted his head. "Funny, I don’t remember admitting anything. Do you remember me admitting anything, Nate?"
Nate looked between us. "Simon-"
"Nate?" Simon demanded "I asked you a question."
Nate’s jaw clenched. "No. I don’t remember you admitting anything."
"There you go." Simon spread his hands. "Must have been the wind you heard, Sophia."
I wanted to shift right there. I wanted to let my wolf out and tear into him, make him pay for what he’d done to Lance. My whole body was trembling with the effort of holding back the transformation.
"I’m going to tell Damien," I said through gritted teeth. "I’m going to tell him everything you’ve done, and he’s going to make you stop."
Simon’s smile widened. "Go ahead. Tell him. See if he cares." He leaned closer, "You really think Damien is going to choose your friend over his own best friend? Over his family? You’re delusional, Sophia. He doesn’t care about you. He hasn’t cared about you in years. Why do you think he’s here with Tiffany instead of home with his wife?"
The words hit like someone stabbed me in the chest. Because deep down, I knew he was right. Damien had made his choice a long time ago, and it wasn’t me.
But I had to try. I had to at least try.
"Where is he?" I demanded.
Simon jerked his thumb toward the beach. "Down by the bonfire. Good luck."
I pushed past him and ran toward the sound of the party. My wolf was howling now.
I had to make Damien listen.
Even if it was the last thing I ever asked of my mate, I had to try.
