Chapter 153: Chapter 153 Kill Em Tonight

SOPHIA’S POV

After my shift ended, I met Bianca at her apartment. She took one look at me and shook her head.

"No. Absolutely not. You’re not going to this event looking like you’ve been through a war." She said.

I rolled my eyes "I look fine-"

"You look exhausted." Bianca pulled me toward her bathroom. "Sit. Let me work my magic."

I sat on the edge of her bathtub while she gathered makeup and hair supplies. My wolf was amused by how determined she was.

"When was the last time you actually did your makeup?" Bianca asked, examining my face critically.

"This morning. I put on foundation and-"

"Foundation and sadness don’t count." She tilted my chin up. "Close your eyes."

I obeyed. Immediately, I felt brushes across my skin. Bianca hummed as she worked. She was completely in her element.

"You know," she said, applying something to my cheekbones, "you’ve always been beautiful. Even back in college when you wore those terrible oversized sweaters."

"Those sweaters were comfortable."

"They were hideous." She laughed. "But you still managed to catch every alpha’s eye on campus. Including Damien’s."

My chest tightened at his name.

"That marriage dimmed you," Bianca continued softly. "Like someone turned down your brightness. But look at you now. You’re getting divorced, pursuing your doctorate, standing up for yourself. You’re glowing again."

"I don’t feel like I’m glowing."

"Trust me, you are." She moved to my hair, running her fingers through it. "Now hold still while I curl this."

Twenty minutes later, she spun me toward the mirror.

I barely recognized myself. My skin looked luminous. My eyes were dramatically defined with subtle smokey shadow that made them look bigger and brighter. My lips were a soft pink that somehow made me look sophisticated. My hair fell in soft waves around my shoulders, perfectly styled.

I gasped in shock "Bianca, this is-"

"Amazing? Stunning? Exactly what I was going for?" She grinned. "Now for the outfit."

She pulled out a white strapless gown. It was beautiful, elegant, with a subtle slit up one leg. It was exactly the kind of dress I’d never have chosen for myself.

I stared at the gown in awe "I can’t wear this-"

"You absolutely can. And you will." Bianca thrust it at me. "Put it on now."

I changed in her bathroom. The dress hugged curves I’d forgotten I had. The heels she’d picked out added three inches to my height.

When I came out fully dressed, Bianca actually gasped.

"You look incredible." She circled me with a huge grin "You look like a completely different person. No, like the person you were always meant to be."

"It’s too much-"

"It’s perfect." Bianca squeezed my hand. "Damien never deserved you, you know. He had this beautiful, brilliant woman and he threw her away for... for Tiffany." She said the name with obvious disgust. "His loss."

I smiled a bit but said nothing. What was there to say?

“Come on” Bianca grinned “We’re so gonna kill em tonight”

-

We arrived at the venue. It was a massive hall hosting what appeared to be part fashion show, part business mixer, with a children’s area set up to one side. The place was packed with well-dressed wolves. There was champagne flowing freely.

I looked at the place in awe. It looked....luxurious.

Bianca linked her arm through mine. "Ready?"

I nodded, and we entered the crowd.

As soon as we got to the center, I looked around, admiring the place. That was when my eyes found him.

Damien stood near the stairs to the second floor, looking devastatingly handsome in a well fitted black suit. And on his arm, wearing a red cocktail dress that showed far too much skin, was Tiffany.

They looked like the perfect couple. They both looked the part - wealthy, beautiful, successful.

I gasped softly in surprise. Why were they here? Why did they always seem to show up wherever I was?

It seemed like the moon goddess was enjoying my soap opera of a life and she just kept adding more drama to it.

My wolf whimpered at the sight of them but I pushed the feeling down.

"Why are they everywhere?" I muttered. "It’s like the universe is conspiring to torture me."

Bianca followed my eyes then scoffed “Ew!”

I gasped, looking at her “That was rude”

"Oh please” she scoffed again “Ignore them." Bianca pulled me in the opposite direction. "Let’s get some champagne and-"

"Wait."

I’d spotted something in the children’s area. "Is that Ashley?"

I looked at the figure well. It really was Ashley.

My daughter sat at a small table with a young boy around her age. They were both eating cupcakes. She was wearing a pretty pink dress. Her hair was in perfect curls.

"Should we say hello?" Bianca asked.

"Let’s... just observe for a minute." I moved closer but stayed hidden behind a decorative column.

I didn’t know if Ashley wanted to see me. I just wanted to make sure she was in a good mood first. I didn’t want to be humiliated or hurt again by her dismissive behaviour towards me.

The boy was talking animatedly. "That lady in the red dress- is she your mom? You look just like her!"

He was referring to Tiffany.

Ashley’s expression went flat. "No. She’s just my dad’s friend."

"Oh." The boy seemed confused. "But you guys looked like a family when you came in. I thought-"

"Well, you thought wrong." Ashley bit into her cupcake viciously.

"So, where’s your real mom? How come I’ve never seen her?"

My heart rate stopped. Everything in me went still.

Ashley’s movements stopped for a moment. After a long pause, she said softly, "She’s... not around anymore."

My heart stopped.

"Did she die?" the boy asked with the brutal honesty of children.

"Something like that." Ashley’s voice was flat, like she didn’t care. "It doesn’t matter. Tiffany is better than my mom ever was anyway."

Each word was a knife to my chest.

Beside me, Bianca’s hand tightened on my arm. I could feel the anger radiating off her "Sophia-"

"I know." My voice came out strangled.

"Ashley Stone!" Bianca called out sharply before I could stop her. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Ashley spun around. Her eyes widened when she saw us. Her face flushed with embarrassment, and she quickly looked down.

Bianca was Ashley’s godmother. She had been there when Ashley was born, had held her at her christening. They used to be close.

But now Ashley wouldn’t even meet her eyes.

The boy looked between us uncertainly. "Um, Ashley? Aren’t you going to say hello to the nice ladies?"

"Mind your own business," Ashley snapped at him. Then she reached over and pinched his arm hard.

The boy burst into tears. Ashley ran off without a backward glance.

"That little-" Bianca started forward, but I caught her arm.

"Leave it. She won’t listen to us anyway." I moved toward the crying boy instead. "She’ll have to learn from her own mistakes."

I knelt down beside him. "Hey, sweetheart. It’s okay. Don’t cry."

The boy sniffled, wiping his eyes. "She pinched me really hard."

"I know. That wasn’t nice of her." I pulled a tissue from my clutch and gently dabbed his tears. "But some people don’t know how to be nice when they’re hurting inside."

"Why is she hurting?"

"That’s complicated." I smiled at him. "But it’s not your fault. You were just being friendly."

The boy looked up at me with tear-filled eyes. Then he said, "Wow. You’re prettier than the lady in red."

The innocent compliment caught me off guard. It warmed something in my heart.

I smiled at him "Thank you, sweetheart. That’s very kind."

"Can I have your number?" he asked suddenly. "My mom says when you meet nice people, you should stay in touch."

I laughed. How charming. "How old are you?"

"Seven and a half."

"A little young for phone numbers, don’t you think?"

"Not to call. Just to have in case I need a nice person someday."

The sincerity in his voice made my heart melt. I wrote my number on a slip of paper and handed it to him. "Okay. But only for emergencies."

"Thank you!" He tucked it carefully into his pocket.

Suddenly, there was a loud noise behind me.

There was a commotion in the hall. Voices rose, people gasped, and I heard the sound of glass shattering.

Bianca and I looked at each other.

"What now?" she muttered.
