Chapter 99: A Duel Yet Again

Ye Jun’s words and the change in atmosphere surrounding him stunned the audience. They couldn’t believe it was the same shameless young man they were seeing a few seconds ago.

But it only lasted a few moments before Ye Jun smiled again and said, "As for proving myself as a man, I already did that with my dear wife."

Song Liangxue couldn’t help but laugh at his words. The others also had faces full of smiles. Mountain slapped his chest and shouted, "I acknowledge you as my brother, Jun. You are Ulankar’s brother. And that means you are a man, for no one else is manlier than an Ulankar."

"See? I even got a certificate now," Ye Jun said before giving a thumbs up to Mountain. "Thank you for it, by the way. I appreciate it."

Meihui watched everything silently, finally having a bit of understanding of his actions. She remembered how Song Liangxue said that his actions would also impact her clan’s reputation, so she wondered if Ye Jun was doing this to preserve that.

After all, he wasn’t powerful enough to defeat most senior disciples here, who not only were in higher realms but also more trained and experienced.

Instead of rejecting outright, he chose this option.

If only Ye Jun knew her thinking, he would have laughed hard.

Meanwhile, Ye Jun glanced at the fuming Lin Xuan and asked, "So, tell me again, why should I accept this challenge? I’m already cursed, as you Senior Brother Feng Huehue said before."

That earned another bout of quiet laughter from the audience.

"So, I have no reason to accept this."

"You will get his rank if you defeat him," Feng Hui said. "This is a rare opportunity for you to jump all the way up. You should know there are more than a thousand students in this sect, so it’ll take so much time to rise all the way up."

That was certainly true. Though there was a bit of a problem here.

"Then, how can this challenge take place?" he asked.

"Because you’re a new recruit and without a ranking," Feng Hui explained. "If you accept it and defeat him, you can take his rank. So, do you accept it now?"

"It’s tempting for sure," Ye Jun nodded. "But it’s something I can get anyway. I love fighting, so I’m sure I’ll enjoy ranking up. If you want me to fight, you need to give me more."

"Six months of my allowance," Lin Xuan declared, his eyes filled with anger. "If you manage to defeat me, I’ll give you my allowance."

That made everyone even more invested. Especially the seniors who expected the same old bullying. It was also entertaining, but certainly not like this. They were truly enjoying it.

The newcomers were no different.

"Hmm, I like your sword, so put that on too," Ye Jun said after thinking for a while.

"You bastard!" Lin Xuan cursed. "You’re just using excuses to get away from this, but I won’t let you. Fine! This sword is on the wager too. What else?"

"Ohhh! You’re quite generous," Ye Jun smiled widely. "And no, I don’t want anything else. I’m quite benevolent and kind, you see."

The disciples around were truly amazed. They never expected to meet someone like him here.

"So you accept it?" Feng Hui’s eyes lit up.

"Of course. I’m a man, so I never run from challenges," Ye Jun continued boasting without a shred of shame on his face. "I accept this challenge."

Lin Xuan’s smile turned wider as he said, "Then come on here. I can’t wait to show you your place."

"It’s on my wife’s bed. I already know that," Ye Jun waved his hand and entered the arena too. Ignoring the people’s reaction, he looked around and said, "Shouldn’t we have an elder watching our duel?"

"You do!"

They heard a voice from above as Han Yuexin dropped down from the sky again and perfectly landed at the arena’s center.

She ran a hand through her hair and said, "Stirring trouble on day one. You really are a weird one."

She turned towards Lin Xuan and said, "I’ve heard everything, so I’ll ask you again. You have a chance of backing out now. Do you agree to this duel and the wager?"

Lin Xuan nodded. "Yes."

"Good!" Han Yuexin jumped backward and announced, "Get started then."

The audience surrounded the arena, as the seniors forgot about the juniors for now. This was more important and would also decide who had the upper hand between them.

After all, Ye Jun was basically rebelling against the seniors, their authority, and the traditions. He was the unofficial leader of the newcomers. If he won, then the newcomers would get a boost in their mentality, but if they could put him down, then he would become the example set for others.

This was why Feng Hui chose to do this. A direct way to put down a bird. Let it out so it attempts to escape, then you would have two options. Either you cut its wings so no other bird would ever attempt it, but if you failed, then the birds would remember that one of them had escaped.

So, this duel was incredibly important.

Both fighters sized each other up while walking in circles at the edges. Ye Jun was more focused on familiarizing himself with the arena, as it was incredibly important to know the terrain you were fighting on.

That was the basics of fighting and Lin Xuan held this advantage over him.

’This will be tricky,’ he thought.

Through Threat Assessment, Ye Jun could feel that Lin Xuan was roughly around the same realm as him. So, he could defeat him, but he didn’t want just that.

A normal win wasn’t suitable for his plan. An idea came to his mind, making his lips curl up.

’Let’s do this.’

The sharp blade of his dagger glistened in the sunlight as Ye Jun finally kicked against the arena floor and launched himself forward. His opponent did the same without any hesitation, his sword coming down to strike at his shoulder.

In seconds, they were upon each other.
