Chapter 96: Rankings

"As new arrivals, you have no clue how the sect works, how you’ll live here, and what you need to do to improve. Most of you don’t even have a proper goal, neither a path. I will give it all to you."

Han Yuexin scanned the crowd of new recruits and continued.

"First and foremost, the sect promotes competition, so you will need to fight for resources. They’re limited, so we need to be convinced that you deserve them. There are ways to do that."

She took out a jade stone, something everyone got at the Administration Hall.

"This will record your contribution points. It’s the currency of this sect and you can buy many things through it. Actually, you need it for everything, even living. From food to other basic necessities, everything is sold in contribution points. If you need access to this sect’s facilities, you’ll need it."

She paused to let everyone understand that and then continued.

"As for how to earn it, there are multiple ways. You can go to the Mission Hall and complete missions. You get paid in contribution points for that. If that isn’t enough, you can contribute to the sect in other ways, like doing small tasks such as cleaning the sect, standing guard, or simply giving valuable things like artefacts, mysterious techniques, or pills to the sect."

That got Ye Jun’s attention, as he planned to do that.

"The last way is the simplest. You need to rise in the Tempest Gale Rankings. Every rank above the top two hundred gets certain contribution points passively."

Han Yuexin smiled and turned toward the older disciples.

"That’s what I wanted to talk about next. The Tempest Gale Rankings is basically a list of the strongest disciples in this sect. The closer you are to the top rank, the more benefits you’ll get. For example, the top ten get three Middle-Grade Spirit Stones every month and also thirty hours per month in their selected training rooms."

She pointed at the multiple facilities set up across the plateau’s edges and continued.

"All of them assist in your cultivation one way or another. For example, the Gravity Training Room can help in your body cultivation and also reaction speed, movement speed, and other factors. Similarly, there are elemental rooms which help simulate an atmosphere dense with a particular element."

Ye Jun rubbed his chin hearing that. This world was strange and didn’t quite follow natural physics as he knew, so the topography and geography also changed depending on areas and it didn’t really follow a pattern.

There were many such areas with a higher density of a particular element. Like the Northern Mountains where the Ice Element was dense, so if a cultivator with Ice Affinity like Song Liangxue practiced there, their cultivation speed would increase several fold depending on the density.

Additionally, they would also have an easier time comprehending the said element and reach a higher understanding of the Dao.

Now, the sect couldn’t bring those areas here, but it could simulate them using Array Formations. Ye Jun had little to no clue how they worked, but they could do the most bizarre things.

’So those thirty hours are extremely valuable. People can also practice mysterious techniques there and learn faster.’

"There is one more benefit the rankings give you. I’m sure you have seen your abodes and explored them well. Some of you might think abodes are given randomly, but you’re dead wrong."

She shook her head and continued.

"The higher your abode is on the mountain, the better conditions you’ll live in. For example, the Qi Gathering Array that pretty much every abode from the middle range has. It gets better the higher you go."

She smiled wickedly and said, "So yes, the higher you are in the rankings, the faster you can grow stronger. The faster you can advance to the Inner Sect, which is your goal."

Ye Jun had to say the sect worked efficiently. It showed them the carrot on day one and told them to work hard for it. If they wanted it, they would have to fight for it.

’I want to conquer these rankings,’ he clenched his fists as his competitive spirit flared up.

"I’m sure you already know, but I’ll still add. If you can reach the top five and hold that rank for three months, you can enter the Heavenly Frost Palace directly. Otherwise, you will need to wait for the Annual Tournament and rank within the top twenty of it."

Ye Jun already knew that, though others didn’t.

"I know you may feel this is a bit unfair since there are other professions and the rankings just focus on combat ones. So I’ll add that there are different requirements for you, which you can learn if you join your profession-related hall."

Han Yuexin added, and Ye Jun could see many heaving a sigh of relief. Most cultivators belonged to the combat profession as it came the most naturally and also seemed the most important.

But there were other professions equally important, like Alchemists, Array Masters, etc. They needed nurturing too, so every sect focused differently on them.

’Can I collect profession-related attributes?’ he wondered. ’Wait. I already have one. Taming, or Beast Taming. It is under the combat profession, but not entirely the same.’

Now he was curious and excited to visit the profession halls. He could also feel his blood boil at the thought of becoming an alchemist. They were among the richest people in the world, as cultivators needed them for so many things.

And he certainly wanted to become the richest man alive.

He pushed down his excitement and thought, ’I will need to be careful. If I focus on too many things, I’ll just become a jack of all trades.’

"Now then, I can see questions in your eyes," Han Yuexin said, looking down at everyone. "You’re wondering how to get on these rankings, right? The answer is very, very simple."

She pointed at them and said, grinning from ear to ear.

"Fight for it. Push down others and climb to the top."
