Chapter 425: 425:You Have Already Been Calculated

While a festive atmosphere prevailed in the Blank estate, the mood inside Lancelot’s estate was heavy and suffocating.

The large study room was dimly lit. Thick curtains blocked most of the evening light, and the air carried the faint scent of tobacco and old wood. Amber stood near the long table, her fingers curled tightly into her palms.

"Father, are you serious about this?" Amber asked, her voice trembling despite her effort to remain calm.

Rake, who stood beside her, also nodded slowly.

"Isn’t this too hasty?" he asked. Unlike Amber, his voice was steady, but his eyes carried deep concern.

Amber glanced at him for a brief second before turning back to their father. The sudden revelation had shaken her far more than she expected.

"No more than that... is this even real?" Amber asked again, and this time anger bubbled up inside her chest.

Lancelot remained seated in his chair, his posture composed but heavy. His expression was serious, and his eyes showed no trace of hesitation.

"I didn’t want to tell you," he said calmly. "But I did so that you can stay steady and not cause unnecessary trouble."

He paused for a moment before continuing.

"This demon war is prearranged and it is going to cause a huge mess."

The words fell heavily in the room.

Amber’s teeth clenched tightly.

The Demonic War.

They were still unclear about many details, but from a trusted friend, Lancelot had learned the truth. It had been pre-planned by Ascension Realm experts who had grown increasingly restless. It was not a sudden conflict. It was a decision made by people far above them.

And it had been approved by both sides.

The entire continent would be dragged into a bloody war, and the consequences would be far-reaching.

"What is this bullshit?" Amber shouted suddenly as she slammed her hand onto the table.

The loud sound echoed in the quiet room.

"How... how can they use human lives as commodities?" she demanded. "How dare they?"

Her chest rose and fell rapidly.

"Did they treat us like pawns? Like folders to be moved around?"

Lancelot wanted to rebuke her, but even he felt the weight of her anger. He could not say she was wrong.

He had seen it before.

He knew how cruel and cold those bastards were.

Most people who managed to reach that realm after centuries of battle were broken and twisted. They had lost their sanity long ago. How could someone remain normal after living for thousands of years and watching everyone they loved wither and die?

Loneliness would crawl into your heart and soul. It would slowly eat away at you until nothing warm remained.

Lancelot exhaled slowly.

"Amber," he said firmly, "if you have a problem with them, then reach that realm and cut them down. Until then, keep your mouth shut."

This time his tone carried a clear warning.

Amber froze. She knew there was nothing she could refute. Anger burned inside her, but she understood the difference in power.

Rake shook his head slightly and shifted the conversation.

"So what is going to happen now?" he asked calmly.

Lancelot crossed his legs and took out a cigar. He lit it slowly, the small flame briefly illuminating his sharp features.

"This is a grave matter," he said after taking a long drag.

"The matter of Amber and Count Ethan has been exposed. However, the Emperor thinks that since this is going to happen anyway, it might as well be done with great fanfare."

Amber’s eyes widened slightly.

"And you two," Lancelot continued, "might be pushed into the limelight."

Amber’s heart skipped.

"What do you mean?" she asked slowly.

Lancelot snorted lightly.

"I mean you have already been calculated and you will be sold before you even realize it."

The words were harsh and direct.

Amber felt a chill run down her spine.

Rake’s jaw tightened, but he did not speak.

"So start preparing," Lancelot said calmly as he leaned back in his chair. "Heal your injury properly."

His gaze moved from Amber to Rake.

"We are going to have a very, very tough time."

The room fell silent once again.

Outside the window, the wind blew softly through the trees.

Inside, the weight of the coming storm settled over them all.

........

Unaware of the approaching calamity, the Blank region was in a jubilant mood.

Because of the wedding of his two children, Ethan had been extremely generous. For an entire week, the streets were filled with celebration. Free food and drinks were distributed across the city, and he even declared a year of tax exemption for the common people. Music echoed through the markets, lanterns hung from every corner, and laughter filled the air late into the night.

Ray and Herion had been given a few days off to enjoy their married lives, so most of the administrative work had fallen onto Nera and Miranda. Unfortunately for them, the fifth child, Leo, had also been dragged into the workload.

Seeing Leo buried in documents, the sixth to tenth children had developed a visible atmosphere of fear, as if they might be the next victims.

Meanwhile, the true culprits of all this chaos were in the garden.

Ethan and a few of his children were sitting on a large wooden swing under an old oak tree, pushing each other playfully like carefree kids. Their laughter carried across the lawn.

Seeing this scene, Rina could not help but chuckle softly.

"Where will you find kids who don’t want to be involved in administration but only want to run free?" she said while shaking her head gently.

Ethan rubbed his forehead.

"We have too many kids," he muttered.

"And you don’t plan to stop, do you?" Rina asked calmly, her tone light but meaningful.

Ethan did not respond immediately, but the slight smile on his face betrayed him.

Rina understood without needing an answer.

In fact, all of his wives understood. They had grown old together with him and had learned to sense things that could not be spoken aloud. They had noticed something strange long ago.
