Chapter 424: 424:Mirror Of The Past

While the wedding banquet was in full celebration,a certain someone was grumbling.

"Ahhhh!"

"Brother, because of you I am dragged into this shit," Herion shouted loudly while adjusting his formal robe in frustration.

"Herion, enough with your antics. You aren’t a kid," Ray glared at him coldly, his eyes sharp and commanding.

"Stop it, brother," Miranda suddenly appeared and lightly smacked Ray’s arm. "Herion will always be small in front of us."

"Yes, I will always be small," Herion nodded dramatically, then turned toward Miranda with a mischievous grin. "By the way, when are you going to find a brother-in-law for us, Sis?"

Miranda’s expression immediately fell. Her cheeks flushed slightly before she turned her head away.

"Mother, Herion is bullying me," she complained.

"What? When did I?" Herion protested, raising his hands in innocence.

The children began to bicker all at once. Their voices overlapped, and the hall that was moments ago orderly now felt lively and chaotic.

Sophia stood nearby and watched them with a soft and worried gaze.

"They have grown so big yet..." she murmured, her voice filled with mixed emotions.

"Big sister, you are saying that, but you yourself are behaving like a kid," Julia replied calmly while folding her arms.

"Yes, they seem to have inherited Sister Sophia’s behavior," Diana added with a faint smile.

"Hey! Don’t accuse me," Sophia shouted while raising her fist playfully.

"We are just speaking facts," Julia replied without fear.

"Shut up. I am going to fight you to death," Sophia roared and lunged forward.

The playful chaos continued until Ethan finally stepped forward and raised his voice.

"Everyone shut up and prepare. The time has come."

His voice was not loud, but it carried authority. Instantly, the hall quieted.

......

The music slowly softened as the main ceremony began.

The grand hall of the estate was filled with warm golden light from hundreds of crystal lamps hanging from the ceiling. Long silk drapes flowed gently along the walls, and fresh white lilies decorated the aisle leading to the central platform. Nobles, knights, merchants, and close allies all stood in respectful silence as the moment everyone had waited for finally arrived.

Ray stood at the center of the platform.

He wore a formal black ceremonial suit with silver embroidery along the collar and cuffs. His white hair was neatly tied back, and his usually calm expression carried a rare trace of nervousness. His hands were steady, but those who knew him well could see the tension in his eyes.

Ethan stood a short distance away, watching quietly with his arms folded.

The doors at the far end of the hall slowly opened.

A soft murmur passed through the crowd.

Florence stepped inside.

She wore a pure white gown that shimmered under the lights. The fabric flowed like water as she walked, and delicate silver patterns traced along the hem of her dress. Her hair was styled elegantly, and a thin veil rested lightly over her shoulders.

Her eyes searched for only one person.

When they met Ray’s gaze, both of them paused for a brief second.

Florence’s steps were slow and steady as she walked down the aisle. Each step echoed gently in the silent hall. Christina, who stood near Rina, clasped her hands together excitedly while whispering to the other children.

Ray swallowed quietly.

As Florence finally reached him, she lowered her gaze slightly.

"You look beautiful," Ray said softly.

Florence smiled shyly.

"And you look like you are about to fight a battle," she replied gently.

A few guests chuckled quietly.

"Wow. What a lovely moment. Did you two have enough? Now let me onto the stage," Herion suddenly interrupted while standing behind them with his five wives.

Ray and Florence both laughed softly at his timing.

The officiant stepped forward and raised his voice.

"Today we gather to witness the union of Ray and Florence. Two souls who walked through danger together now stand here to build a future together."

The vows began.

Ray took Florence’s hands carefully.

"I cannot promise that life will always be peaceful," Ray said honestly. "But I promise that I will stand beside you in every storm."

Florence’s eyes became moist, but she held his hands firmly.

"I do not need a peaceful life. I only need you to stand with me."

The hall grew quiet.

Ethan felt a faint warmth rise in his chest. He didn’t know why he felt quite emotional as if seeing the past replaying in his eyes.

The day when Sophia said I chose you was still vivid in his mind.

Despite the passing of decades, the lovely memories and bond they shared seemed to be renewed seeing their kids walking the same path.

Soon,the rings were brought forward.

Ray gently slid the ring onto Florence’s finger. Florence did the same, her fingers trembling slightly.

"From this day forward, you are husband and wife," the officiant declared.

For a brief second, silence filled the hall.

Then applause erupted.

Cheers followed. Nobles raised their glasses.

The little kids of Ethan clapped so hard that their mother’s had to steady her. Herion wiped his eyes discreetly before pretending to cough.

Ray leaned closer to Florence and whispered, "We made it."

Florence nodded softly. "Yes. And this is only the beginning."

The celebration resumed with music, laughter, and endless congratulations.

Ethan stepped forward and placed a hand on Ray’s shoulder.

"Take care of her," he said quietly.

"I will," Ray replied firmly.

Ethan then looked at Florence.

"And you, if he ever acts foolish or bullies you, come to me,I will beat the shit out of him."

Florence smiled warmly. "I will, Lor–"she paused, seeing Ethan frowned and readdressed herself.

"Yes Father.."

"Good!"

For a moment, Ethan felt time slow down.

The hall was filled with light and warmth. As he watched his son standing beside the woman he loved, a strange sense of nostalgia washed over him.

Even though he was in the prime of his life, he suddenly felt as if he had grown quite old.
