Chapter 418: Chapter 418 The Reception

After a few speeches from friends and family, and the words of a legal officiant Avery and Jasmine kissed. The traditional way on Azade and many other worlds for sealing a marriage.

Despite only lasting for a couple of seconds, they were both quite passionate.

When Avery pulled away, he saw a steamy look in Jasmine’s eyes, and no doubt he wore a simar expression.

If they were alone, the two of them certainly would have kissed again and likely gone further.

Still, the momentary amorous haze that clouded their thoughts was quickly washed away by the cheers of the guests.

Very smiled and held out his hand towards Jasmine.

She took his hand and the two of them began walking down the stage.

Now that the ceremony was over, it was time for the reception.

There would be plenty of food, drinks, conversation, and dancing.

It should have been exceptional fun, but upon entering the room that was set up with dozens of tables, Avery and Jasmine’s eyes were drawn to a figured that was talking to the head of the kitchen staff in one corner of the room.

They seemed to be discussing something intently as neither of them had noticed that everyone that had been at the ceremony was entering.

’I’d pushed him to the back of my mind, but he really is here. I was hoping that he might just get bored or waiting around and leave. I guess our luck wasn’t strong enough for that to happen.’ Avery thought as he looked over at Bastion Cuach.

Jasmine had glared at him for just a moment before turning her head away.

It seemed she just wanted to pretend he did not exist, so Avery decided to do the same. That would be best for their enjoyment and peace of mind.

Being the wedding couple, both of them were led by a server to a special table at the front where it would just be the two of them by themselves.

From this position, everyone else had a pretty good view of them.

With how many guests were present, it took the serving staff a few minutes to get everyone brought to their assigned seats.

Fortunately, there were no encounters where people hated those that were seated around them.

Regina had been diligent to make sure that everyone was near those that they got along with. Whether it was personally or due to political affiliation.

"And what would the lovely bride and groom like to drink? For you two, there’s no restrictions. Whatever we have on hand is yours if you want it."

The server assigned to Avery and Jasmine came over with a tablet that had a long list of possible drinks.

While some of the most expressive or rarer options were off the table for most of the guests, with this being Avery and Jasmine’s wedding, they were getting special treatment. Of course, this was all curiosity of Jasmine’s mother.

"I’ll have a glass of Navalarian Gold then. I’m honestly surprised that you have any." Avery said, choosing the same drink that Cerise had shared with him after the corrupt police officer incident.

He had planned to track down a couple bottles of the drink for himself, but for obvious reasons he had not had time yet to do so.

"Ah, you have exquisite taste. That comes directly from the chancellor’s personal stock. She provided us with access to it for this occasion. Though, I’m afraid that for this drink, I’ll have to ask that you limit yourself to just two glasses. There is only a very limited supply." The server said apologetically. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Avery waved them off and said that was fine. Two glasses would be enough for him. He was not planning on getting hammered or anything.

As for Jasmine, she got something that was highly alcoholic as well, though not quite so much as the Navalarian Gold Avery had ordered.

With their augmented bodies it took a lot for them to even get just a little buzzed, so if they wanted to feel anything, they needed to choose items that had decent alcohol content.

Once their orders were sent off, it did not take long before the drinks were delivered to their table.

Naturally, everyone else attending the reception were brought beverages of their choice.

It did not take long for people to become more sociable as they relaxed, and a few people gave some tearful speeches.

One ended up being about Jasmine’s father who had passed years ago when Jasmine was just nine.

This came from Esmeralda Rhinelander. Azade’s representative in the Dramid Alliance Assembly. And while not her actual aunt, she was someone that Jasmine considered as such.

By the time her aunt Esme was finishing her speech, Jasmine was crying.

She missed her father dearly and the sadness of his death still hurt even after all of these years.

"He would have been so proud to see the woman that you grew up into. What he always wanted most was for you to be happy. And I’ve never seen you happier than you are now with Avery by your side." Esmeralda said, her own eyes starting to tear up.

The two of them then hugged each other before Esmeralda Rhinelander headed back to her own seat.

Avery comfortingly wiped away his wife’s tears and patted her on the back.

"I may never got to meet your father, but it sounds like he was a great guy."

"Yes, he was. I think that the two of you would have gotten along. He wasn’t quite as uptight as my mom is." Jasmine said, forcing herself to smile through the crying.

The speeches and conversations soon began to lull and the serves came out again to bring everyone their food.

There were seven main dishes that were being provided and each of them featured vegetables and meat that were popular on Azade.

Avery had picked a seafood dish since they were difficult to get fresh out in space due to expensive transportation costs.

For Jasmine, she had picked a favorite of hers since she was a child. It was something that her father had personally made for her for the first time when she was six, so it held a special place in her heart.

However, halfway into her meal, Jasmine started to look unwell and grabbed her head in distress.
