With her company, Shen Shuci felt much more at ease.
Liang Yun invited the two of them over for a meal at her place.
Huo Zheng had been particularly eager to please lately. Knowing roughly when they would be home, he had prepared the meal early. However, after just one bite, Shen Shuci suddenly felt her stomach churn uncomfortably.
Not caring about anything else, she covered her mouth and dashed to the bathroom, with Huo Qinqi quickly following behind. But as he reached the door, it was closed, and he could hear the sounds of her retching inside.
He opened the door to find her nearly kneeling over the toilet. He gently patted her back, "Feeling really unwell?"
Shen Shuci waved him away, signaling for him to leave, as there was nothing worth watching when she was retching.
"I’ll get you a glass of water." As soon as Huo Qinqi stepped out, Liang Yun approached with a cup.
Eventually, Shen Shuci managed to suppress the feeling of nausea.
As she walked out of the bathroom, her face was ashen, her long hair draping over her shoulders accentuating her frail and pale demeanor.
It was the first time Tang Wan had seen her so weak, she must really have been feeling awful.
"Still not feeling well?" Liang Yun asked with a frown.
"Much better now." Shen Shuci saw everyone crowding around her, and managed a slight smile, "I’m really fine."
"Is this your first bout of morning sickness?" Tang Wan inquired.
"Yeah." When Shen Shuci found out she was pregnant, it was only a few days in, with no reactions at first; the morning sickness only started today.
"Don’t worry, when I was first pregnant, I threw up too, but it got better later." Tang Wan reassured her with a smile.

Shen Shuci thought that with Tang Wan’s "past experience," her morning sickness likely wouldn’t last too long.
But as time went on, she realized she had been too naive.
Her morning sickness was far more severe than Tang Wan’s, to the point where for a while, she couldn’t eat anything and was worried about the baby’s nutrition, forcing herself to eat some food each day, rapidly losing weight as a result.
Huo Qinqi also knew that the baby in Shen Shuci’s belly wasn’t an easy one to deal with.
The night before returning to work, he even warned this unexpected little guest.
"If you dare make a fuss again, I’ll make sure you pay for it once you’re out."
But instead, Shen Shuci ended up vomiting even more.
"Stop saying nonsense, the baby can hear you." Shen Shuci was furious.
"I’m just giving a warning; the baby’s not even fully formed, can’t even hear, has no hair, what could it hear? By the time it’s born, I want to see how tough it really is; you think I can’t handle a little rascal?"
Huo Qinqi mused to himself, any troublemaker that came his way eventually bowed down. Surely, he could handle a little troublemaker that wasn’t even fully developed yet?
Yet as soon as he finished speaking, Shen Shuci ran to the bathroom to throw up again.
When she came out, Huo Qinqi had a glass of water ready for her to rinse her mouth and helped her to bed to rest.
As he lay next to Shen Shuci, he wanted to say, what’s up with this kid?
