Chapter 673: Chapter 665: Who to Attend the Wedding With? (Part 2)

He was trying to divert the subject, but Mrs. Qi was not easily fooled and wouldn’t let him get away with it, "Don’t change the subject. Tell me honestly, who is the woman that made you send your favorite to buy her pajamas?"

As she spoke, she stared at Qi Helian’s eyes, which were almost identical to her own.

She watched him closely, making it impossible for him to brush her off under her watchful eyes.

But Qi Helian still tried to circumvent her question, "Your tone doesn’t sound like a mother asking her son; it’s more like a wife suspecting her husband of having an affair."

Turning his head, he looked at Mrs. Qi’s head and exclaimed in surprise, "Don’t move, there’s a white hair."

Without waiting for Mrs. Qi to react, he reached out, plucked the white hair, and forcefully pulled it out before handing it to her to see, "Look at this, worrying about nothing has brought out white hair."

Mrs. Qi glanced at the white hair, frowned, and complained to Qi Helian, "It’s all your doing. You’re almost thirty and still fooling around all day, with no sign of settling down."

As she spoke, her face took on a worried look again.

Qi Helian examined the corners of his mother’s eyes carefully; indeed, fine lines were visible. The playful smile on his face began to fade.

His mother was once a five-time Best Actress winner, starting as a beauty pageant champion. In his memory, her face was always full of collagen. How long had it been since he last looked at her properly?

Just as Qi Helian was feeling guilty, Mrs. Qi suddenly looked at him again, "So who is that girl anyway..."

Here we go again.

Just as Qi Helian was thinking of how to brush her off, his phone, which was on the coffee table, rang. His gaze quickly swept over the caller ID, and upon seeing the words ’Anning,’ he immediately picked up the phone, stood up, and said to his mother, "Mom, keep reading the newspaper, I need to step out for a bit."

While speaking, he walked towards the door. After taking a few steps, he finally answered the call and whispered a gentle "Hello?"

Mrs. Qi watched her son’s figure disappear at the doorway, frowning and sighing, "Ah, every time he comes back, it feels like he just flits in and out of my sight."

Muttering her sense of loss, she lowered her eyes and looked back at the newspaper she was reading, immediately losing interest.

Suddenly, she had an idea and her eyes lit up. She raised her head and called out to the door, "Old Liu."

At her call, a middle-aged man walked in respectfully, "Madam."

"Prepare the car. We’re going to Helian’s apartment," Mrs. Qi announced as she stood up, invigorated, and looking down at her clothes. She grabbed the young maid passing by and asked, "Xiao Zhen, how do I look in these clothes?"

The young maid, seemingly accustomed to Mrs. Qi’s question, replied without any hesitation and with assurance, "Madam looks good in anything."

"I want a sincere answer, not platitudes," Mrs. Qi rolled her eyes at the young maid, looking at her seriously, "Does it make me look young?"

The maid smiled genuinely, "If Madam doesn’t reveal your age, I’d believe you were only thirty."

"I thought as much," Mrs. Qi finally released the maid’s arm, lifted her chin proudly, and sashayed towards the front door.

...

Although she had no appetite, once she picked up the bowl, she finished the entire bowl of porridge. Setting down the bowl, Ji Anning raised her head to look at Qi Helian opposite her, and smiled slightly, "Mr. Qi, I really don’t know how to thank you enough. I’m already looking for a place and will move out in a couple of days."
