KNOCK... KNOCK...

The soft knocking on the door woke Yan Feifan.

He rolled over, groggy and irritable, and called out impatiently, "Sis, since when do you knock..."

The moment the words left his mouth, Yan Feifan realized something was wrong.

He remembered.

He had worked quite late last night.

Besides, the sofa in Mr. Wang's office was large enough to be split into two beds.

And since the office had extra blankets, pillows, and clean pajamas, he had ended up sleeping there.

Yan Feifan scrambled off the sofa and saw that Mr. Wang was no longer on the other sofa bed.

However, he could hear sounds coming from the bathroom.

Hearing the "KNOCK KNOCK" persist, Yan Feifan yawned and walked quickly to the door.

When he opened the door, Yan Feifan found his sister was actually standing outside.

"I brought breakfast for you and Mr. Wang, and your clothes!"

Yan Ziruo sized up Yan Feifan, who was wearing slightly baggy, light-colored pajamas, and entered the office carrying several take-out containers and a bag of clean clothes.

She also heard the sounds from the bathroom. She placed the things she was carrying on the coffee table and started tidying up the blankets and pillows on the sofa.

Just as the siblings finished tidying up and putting the sofa back together, Wang Chuan, having finished washing up, limped out of the bathroom.

Seeing this, Yan Ziruo asked with concern, "Mr. Wang, your leg?"

Wang Chuan waved his hand and explained, "I just had a small invasive examination. It'll heal in a day or two."

"Were the test results okay, then?" Yan Ziruo asked.

Wang Chuan, in high spirits, said, "The results were excellent. Better than I expected, even."

"I thought I'd have to wait several months."

"I never imagined I'd see the desired results in less than three weeks..."

Yan Feifan quickly washed up, then sat down with Wang Chuan to eat breakfast.

The breakfast Yan Ziruo had brought them included black-bone chicken soup and pork rib soup, both slow-cooked in earthenware pots, as well as steamed dumplings, stir-fried rice noodles, and tea-leaf eggs.

Seeing that Mr. Wang was in a good mood and had a healthy appetite, Yan Ziruo asked softly, "Mr. Wang, about that research funding Mr. Pan provided to support Feifan... it should be fully transferred to the hospital's account in the next couple of days."

"About that money, what do you think?"

Wang Chuan took a sip of the black-bone chicken soup and said slowly, "To put it bluntly, the money from Mr. Pan is for buying peace of mind and health."

"That's something everyone is well aware of."

"So, you don't need to be coy or feel awkward about it. Take every cent you're entitled to."

"Just withdraw the full twenty-percent research stipend."

Yan Ziruo asked again, a bit more discreetly, "How should this research stipend be divided?"

"You, Mr. Wang, and several of Feifan's other teachers all put in a lot of effort."

Wang Chuan chuckled softly and said, "As for me, you don't need to give me anything."

"The greatest reward for me will be seeing Feifan's plastic surgery skills reach their peak sooner."

"As for Dr. Qin, it's the same as with me. The best reward for her is for Feifan to master his skills."

"As for Mr. Lo..."

Wang Chuan paused for a moment, then said, "You should make a gesture of appreciation, but I suspect he won't accept it either."

"Still, whether he accepts it is his business. You should still make the offer."

"Do this: have the hospital's research finance department issue a check for three hundred thousand. If Mr. Lo doesn't take it, use the money to buy a catty of the highest-quality tea."

Wang Chuan added, "Mr. Liu, Mr. Miao, Mr. Qi, and Mr. Liang all enjoy tea, so send them some as well."

"Mr. Chen and Mr. Wan like red wine."

"I happen to have a few good bottles of red wine at home. I'll bring them over for you in the next day or two..."

Yan Feifan quickly tried to refuse, "Mr. Wang, how could we let you..."

Wang Chuan shot him a look and cut him off. "Feifan, don't get the wrong idea. I'm going to charge you for this wine."

Yan Feifan gave an awkward smile as Wang Chuan continued, "As for the anesthesiologist, assistants, and nurses who participated in the surgery, just give them three to five thousand each as a service fee to show your appreciation. That'll be enough."

Wang Chuan added, "Of course, this is a six-million-yuan research fund, so some official business still needs to be done."

"Besides paying for the medical expenses of Mr. Pan and that... other female patient, use most of the remaining money to buy medical equipment, instruments, office supplies, and so on."

"And as for research results..."

Wang Chuan looked at Yan Feifan and chuckled. "That paper you're about to publish in the Bin University Medical Edition will be more than enough to count as a research outcome."

"After all that, you'll probably only have a few hundred thousand left."

"Leave that money in the hospital's research department account..."

Wang Chuan chuckled. "You can use it for reimbursements for daily team meals, events, business trips, purchasing office supplies, and things like that."

Yan Ziruo said with a smile, "Mr. Wang, hearing you explain it all puts my mind at ease..."

Today was Wednesday, and his time was at Dr. Qin Ying's disposal.

After breakfast, Yan Feifan changed into the clean clothes his sister had brought, then went upstairs to the inpatient ward to check on Qiqi's postoperative condition.

He then left the plastic surgery center and went straight to Qin Ying's medical research lab, where he saw that Yu Suye had already arrived.

"Feifan, I asked around at Baining Hospital. That patient owns several commercial buildings in Jingcheng and is worth a fortune."

"You'll probably get a huge red envelope for this freelance surgery."

Yu Suye said this jokingly, then added a reminder, "Feifan, this person is my Uncle Youbin's patient."

"His surgery was scheduled for today, but it was suddenly called off. I imagine my proud uncle is in a terrible mood right now."

She giggled and added, "But don't you worry. I'll be with you on the weekend. The worst he can do is give you a dirty look."

Yan Feifan said nonchalantly, "I don't even work at your Baining Hospital. It's not like I should be afraid he'll eat me alive, right?"

"He won't eat you alive!"

Then Yu Suye said in a serious tone, "Feifan, it would be one thing if you were a famous doctor who's been renowned for years. The problem is, you're so young, and you're still just a resident..."

"Let me tell you, the Yu Family has always been incredibly proud of its method of raising children. We often boast that the younger generation we've cultivated is second to none, a force that dominates their peers."

"But now, a freak like you has appeared..."

Looking like she was anticipating a good show, Yu Suye continued, "Feifan, when you go to Baining Hospital for this freelance surgery, there's a very, very high chance that some people will see it as you coming to crash their party and show them up."

Yan Feifan was taken aback and asked with some concern, "Su Ye, it's not that serious, is it?"

Yu Suye nodded gravely. "Feifan, it could be even more serious."

"Some of the elders might intentionally fan the flames. They could use you to knock the arrogance out of a few of the younger uncles and cousins and teach them that there's always someone better."

Then she tried to console him, "But Feifan, you don't need to worry too much."

"They'll just challenge you intellectually, not physically. In any case, it's not like they won't let you walk out of Baining Hospital..."

Just then, Dr. Qin Ying pushed the door open and entered. Yan Feifan and Yu Suye quickly shut their mouths.

"Feifan, I asked around through a few friends..."

Qin Ying said in a calm tone, "The carpenter who filed a complaint against you and Mrs. Chen underwent a disability assessment. Tests like the electromyogram have already shown that the flexion and extension of his left thumb are normal."

"That's enough to prove he was lying..."
