Overlord: The Multiverse-Chapter 382: Lets Hunt
The streets of E-Rantel were quiet in the late afternoon, yet I sensed something as I neared Nfirea Bareare’s shop. My senses, honed beyond human limits, caught the faint but unmistakable presence of the undead.
"Solution," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
She smiled beside me, as if nothing were amiss. "You noticed it too, Alex-sama?"
I gave a slight nod.
It wasn’t surprising. I had come here knowing full well that Nfirea had already been taken by Khajit and Clementine. The real issue was setting the stage correctly—I couldn’t just march into their hideout and rescue him. That would raise too many questions. But if his grandmother, Lizzie Bareare, requested me to save him, then no one would suspect anything.
We needed a reason to be involved.
With that in mind, I adjusted my expression, making sure I looked calm yet mildly interested, then stepped into the shop.
Before I could knock, the door creaked open.
"Ah, visitors?" An elderly voice greeted us, revealing Lizzie Bareare herself. Her wrinkled face showed a mix of curiosity and caution, but when she saw my armor and the woman beside me, her expression softened. "Oh my, I don’t recognize you two. Adventurers, are you?"
I gave a small nod. "Yes. I’m Alex, and this is my companion, Solution."
Lizzie’s eyes briefly flicked toward Solution, but the homunculus maid merely smiled politely, her posture perfect.
"What brings you here, young man?" Lizzie asked.
"I came to buy some potions," I replied. "I’ve heard of your expertise, and I’d rather buy directly from the best rather than from middlemen at the guild."
Lizzie chuckled, clearly pleased by the compliment. "A wise decision. Very well, come in, come in."
She stepped aside, allowing us to enter the shop. The air was thick with the scent of herbs and alchemical ingredients. Shelves lined the walls, filled with all kinds of potions, powders, and dried plants.
As I took a step forward, I felt it again—that eerie sensation. The presence of the undead was growing stronger.
Lizzie, oblivious to my internal thoughts, led us deeper inside. "Nfirea should be back soon. He went out on an errand, but I can help you find what you need."
She turned to retrieve something from the counter, but at that moment, the wooden door leading further inside creaked open.
A putrid stench hit me first. The unmistakable smell of decay.
Solution and I turned toward the door.
What greeted us were four figures, shambling unnaturally. Their bodies bore torn, bloodied armor, their skin pale and rotting. Their movements were stiff, yet their dead eyes locked onto us with eerie precision.
Zombies.
But not just any zombies—these were former adventurers.
I recognized them by the way they were dressed, though they were tarnished and dangling uselessly from their rotting necks.
These were the ones Nfirea had taken with him to Carne Village in this timeline. They must have been killed and reanimated.
But one thing that changes from the original was that nobody was tortured, they seems like got a quick death by Clementine seems like the ’edits’ I made in Clementine character is reflecting.
I made it that Clementine will only enjoy killing criminal and don’t enjoy killing innocent.
Lizzie gasped, her face paling. "W-what...?!"
She took a step back, her frail body trembling.
I stepped in front of her. "Stay behind me."
Solution, standing beside me, glanced at the undead with mild curiosity. "Shall I handle them, Alex-sama?"
"Alright," I said.
Solution’s smile widened ever so slightly, her golden eyes gleaming with amusement.
"Then, please enjoy the show, Alex-sama," she said in a soft, melodic voice.
She took a single step forward, and in that instant, the air itself seemed to shift.
The zombies, primitive as they were, reacted on instinct. Their rotting bodies groaned as they lunged at her, their movements sluggish yet filled with unnatural strength.
The solution didn’t move.
She simply stood there, her posture as perfect and refined as ever, watching as the first zombie swung its decayed arm at her head.
Then, without any warning, the zombie froze mid-motion.
A sickening squelch filled the room.
Lizzie let out a horrified gasp as the zombie’s arm, the one it had been about to attack with, began dissolving. The flesh melted away like wax under extreme heat, yet there were no flames—only a bubbling, gelatinous substance spreading across its limb.
The zombie let out a low, guttural groan as it stumbled back, but it was already too late.
Solution’s body, seemingly solid a moment ago, rippled like liquid, extending and coiling around the undead like the tendrils of a predator ensnaring its prey.
The second zombie swung at her, but its arm was caught mid-air—no, absorbed mid-air. Solution’s form enveloped the limb, and within moments, the entire appendage dissolved into nothing.
The third zombie lunged forward, only to suddenly stop. Its rotting chest bulged unnaturally before its torso caved in, sucked into Solution’s shapeless mass like a piece of bread dropped into acid.
Lizzie looked ready to faint.
The fourth zombie turned as if to flee, but Solution was faster.
A tendril shot forward, wrapping around its skull. There was no hesitation. No struggle. The moment her body came into contact with it, the undead’s head caved in and melted, its entire form crumbling like a sandcastle washed away by the tide.
Silence.
Lizzie pressed a trembling hand to her mouth, her body shaking.
Solution turned to face me, her golden eyes filled with adoration. "As expected, these creatures are too fragile. Perhaps something more lively would be a better test of my abilities, Alex-sama?"
I smirked, crossing my arms. "That was efficient."
"It was nothing," she said smoothly. "I exist to serve you, after all."
Lizzie, still struggling to process what had just happened, gripped the counter for support.
"T-they’re... gone..." she whispered. "Y-you... you took them down so easily"... And what type of magic is that?"
I glanced at the remains—or rather, the lack thereof. There was no blood. No bones. No trace that the zombies had ever existed.
"Oh, that was her personal magic," I said to her, using my Charm magic in order to avoid any further drama.
"Now then," I said, my tone casual. "About that request."
Lizzie slowly turned to look at me, her eyes filled with a mix of fear, awe, and desperate hope.
"My grandson..." she murmured.
I nodded. "He’s been taken by the ones responsible for this." I gestured toward the spot where the zombies had once stood. "If we don’t act quickly, more undead will rise, and the entire city will be in danger."
Lizzie took a deep, shaky breath.
"Then... please." She straightened herself, her resolve hardening. "Please save Nfirea. I’ll issue an official request through the Adventurer’s Guild."
I smiled. "Good. That makes things much easier."
Solution licked her lips, the remnants of her previous ’meal’ disappearing into her being. "Shall we begin then, Alex-sama?"
I turned toward the door, my expression darkening.
"Yes. Let’s hunt."
