Chapter 381: Chapter 381: Kidnaping Nfirea

In the canon, because Ainz gave Brita the red potion, she came in contact with Nfirea, and then Nfirea came to Ainz in order to see the origin of the red potion.

But here, because Alex made sure to not break Brita’s potion, she didn’t get the red potion, and Nfirea didn’t meet Alex.

So instead of Alex, Nfirea took another adventure group to Carne Village to collect herbs.

And he was on his way back.

•••

Nfirea sighed in relief as the wagon finally rolled to a stop in the backyard of his home. The journey back from Carne Village had been uneventful, just another routine herb-collecting trip, but he still felt a sense of accomplishment.

As he hopped down from the driver’s seat, he fished out a small, enchanted lantern, its warm glow illuminating the dim surroundings. With a practiced motion, he hung it on the wall, its light casting long shadows across the wooden storage room.

The scent of dried herbs filled the air, earthy and familiar. Several barrels lined the walls, packed with medicinal plants gathered from the village’s outskirts. It was a modest storage area, but it served its purpose well.

"Then, could I trouble you to help me with the herbs?" Nfirea asked, glancing back at the adventurers who had accompanied him on this trip.

"Of course!" one of them replied cheerfully. The rest nodded, equally eager to finish up their work.

Carefully, they began unloading the bundles of herbs from the wagon, stacking them neatly inside the room. Nfirea moved about, directing them where to place each type of plant, ensuring they were sorted properly. As he worked, a small thought crossed his mind.

"Isn’t Granny home?"

His grandmother, Lizzie Bareare, was old but still sharp. Normally, she would have appeared by now, either to oversee the storage process or to nag him about something. Even if she had been busy brewing potions, she was always quick to notice any commotion inside the house.

Maybe she’s just deeply focused, he reasoned.

Shrugging off the unease, he turned back to his companions, who had just finished stacking the last of the bundles.

"Thank you for your hard work! There should be some cool fruit juice in the house, so please come in for some," Nfirea offered with a smile.

One of the adventurers, his forehead glistening with sweat, let out an enthusiastic exclamation.

"Really? That’d be great!"

The others murmured their agreement, clearly looking forward to the refreshing drink.

"Then, please come this way—"

Just as Nfirea turned to lead them inside, a door at the other end of the storage room creaked open. The soft sound should have been insignificant, yet it sent an unnatural chill crawling down his spine.

"Hiiii~ Welcome home~"

A voice, sweet yet unsettling, rang out from the darkness beyond the doorway.

A young woman stood there, blonde hair swaying gently as she smiled.

It was a beautiful smile. And yet, something about it sent every instinct in Nfirea’s body screaming in alarm.

"Ah~ I was so worried, you know? I thought you went missing," she continued in a singsong tone, stepping lightly into the room. "What poor timing—I didn’t know when you’d be coming back, so I had to wait here all this while, you know?"

A heavy silence settled over the room.

Nfirea swallowed, his throat suddenly dry. "May... may I ask who you are?"

One of the adventurers blinked in surprise. "Eh? You don’t know her?"

Given the way she had spoken, it was a natural assumption that they were acquaintances. But Nfirea only shook his head slightly, his body rigid with unease.

The girl giggled. "Ehehe~ That’s funny, isn’t it? But no, we don’t know each other. Not yet, anyway." She tilted her head slightly, as if pondering something. "Hm... how should I say this? Ah! I came to kidnap you."

The air in the room turned suffocating.

Nfirea’s blood ran cold.

"I need someone to use the spell that summons a biiiiig horde of undead," the girl continued, clasping her hands together like a child asking for a favor. "『Undeath Army』—that’s what it’s called. But I need a magic item to do it. So, would you be my magic item? Onee-chan’s begging you~"

The playful lilt in her voice did nothing to disguise the malice dripping from every word.

Steel rasped against leather as the adventurers immediately drew their weapons. Swords and daggers gleamed under the lantern’s light, but the girl merely giggled in delight.

"That’s a seventh-tier spell," she mused, seemingly oblivious to the hostility surrounding her. "Hardly anyone can cast it, but it can be done with the Crown of Wisdom. Of course, you can’t control all the undead it summons, but you can guide them! It’s such a perfect plan, don’t you think?"

"Nfirea-san, fall back!" one of the adventurers ordered. "Get out of here!"

The tension in the room snapped like a drawn bowstring.

The leader of the group stepped forward, his sword held steady. His voice was cold and firm.

"She’s still talking because she’s confident she can kill us all. Since you’re her target, the only way to turn things around is for you to escape."

Nfirea’s breath caught in his throat.

One of the adventurers turned to him, urgency in his voice. "Go, now!"

Another spoke up, his tone filled with resolve. "Take the kid and run! Weren’t you going to save your kidnapped sister?"

"That’s right," another added. "You’ve got something you have to do. We might not be able to help you until the very end... but at least we can buy you some time."

Nfirea clenched his fists. "Guys..."

"Mmm~ how touching~" the girl cooed, eyes twinkling with amusement. "I’m about to shed a tear myself, mm. But if he escapes, that’d be such a problem for me. So~ let’s leave one to play with~!"

As if performing a dance, she gracefully withdrew a pair of stilettos from under her robe, spinning them in her hands with a childlike glee.

Just then, the rear door swung open.

A new figure stepped into the room.

He was sickly pale, his body gaunt and frail like a corpse. Sunken eyes stared forward with a dull, eerie glint, and the stench of something wrong clung to the air around him.

A pincer attack.

Nfirea and the adventurers had been trapped.

A heavy silence filled the room before one of the adventurers spoke in a grim tone.

"...You’re getting carried away."

The girl pouted, twirling one of her stilettos. "Ah~ what are you saying, Khaji-chan? Weren’t you the one making preparations so their screams wouldn’t spill out?" She sighed dramatically. "It’s just one person, so let me have a little fun."

Her bared teeth formed a smile too wide, too hungry.

Nfirea’s heartbeat thundered in his ears.

"Then," the girl whispered, taking a step forward, "since there’s nowhere left for you to run..."

Her golden eyes gleamed with a terrifying joy.

"Let’s have some fun~"
