Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Infuriated

Aaron Carson was accompanying his parents on a walk. He still didn’t know about the breakup between Scarlett Shaw and Julian Ford, so he commented, "President Ford, isn’t Scarlett Shaw closest to you?"

Where else could he check for someone else?

Julian Ford’s voice was icy cold, "Besides me, who could possibly become her boyfriend."

Aaron now had an allergic reaction to the word "boyfriend." Hearing it made him itchy and red all over, with his heart racing, "President Ford, Scarlett Shaw is with you, how could she still..."

"Why are you babbling so much now?"

Julian Ford said without much patience.

"Ryan Ford mentioned to me a few days ago about your character issues. Did you do something?"

Aaron: "..."

Julian Ford: "Last time you bumped into her at the supermarket near your house, check her whereabouts that day."

Aaron: "..."

Can he just bang his head against a piece of tofu now?

After ending the call with Julian Ford, Aaron’s anxious heart was in turmoil, and he immediately called Scarlett Shaw. As soon as he connected, he said, "You and President Ford are at odds again. Why did he suddenly want to check if you have a boyfriend?!"

Upon hearing this, Scarlett Shaw realized that her earlier explanation to Julian Ford was meaningless.

This person is just like a deaf person’s ear—

Purely ornamental!

So she explained the situation to Aaron.

Aaron was speechless to the point of wanting to kneel before her, "You say you broke up with President Ford, so why drag me into this mess!"

Scarlett Shaw: "You can’t blame me; it’s Julian Ford who insisted on listening. If he hadn’t overheard, this wouldn’t have happened."

Aaron: "You should go participate in a scapegoating contest. You’d definitely win first place."

Scarlett Shaw: "Sure, when I give my acceptance speech, the first thing I’ll do is thank the company for nurturing me."

Aaron: "..."

One wrong step leads to another, and Aaron truly regretted his past actions now, wanting to immediately cut ties with Scarlett Shaw to make his stance clear.

"Scarlett Shaw, the pretend relationship between us has to stop here..."

"Yuna, how come you haven’t brought Shaw to visit recently?"

Mrs. Carson had just finished her square dance and saw her friend’s son holding his granddaughter. But her own son brought his girlfriend home once and she disappeared.

Mrs. Carson was both envious and anxious.

"You wouldn’t have broken up with Shaw, would you? Aaron Carson, do you know that your mother has been losing sleep night after night, worrying about your lifelong matters? That Shaw is so wonderful, so well-behaved and sensible, and she’s so cute. Do you know you’re like the toad eating the swan’s meat?"

Aaron was furious, "Mom, am I that bad?! Not to mention anything else, but in terms of looks, where am I worse than Scarlett Shaw?!"

Mrs. Carson stared at him peculiarly, "Why are you comparing your looks with a girl’s?"

Aaron: "..."

Scarlett Shaw heard the mother-son argument from the other side of the phone, and gently touched her nose, thinking to herself, Aunt, your son might be even vainer than me.

"Rhonda, were you about to say that it’s stopping here?"

Scarlett Shaw continued what Aaron was going to say. She also intended to talk to him about this.

Aaron gritted his teeth, "Are you free next weekend?"

Scarlett Shaw: "Assuming the company doesn’t have overtime, I think I should be free."

Aaron: "Come to my house, meet my parents."

Scarlett Shaw: "..."

Aaron’s end seemed as if he faced a huge grievance, full of resentment. After speaking, he hung up the phone. Scarlett Shaw stared at her phone screen for a while, then sent a message to comfort him:

Don’t be mad at Aunt. Anyway, I think you’re better looking than me.

Aaron: Thank you!

Clearly, her comment merely provoked Aaron without serving any other purpose. Scarlett Shaw wisely refrained from further aggravating him. She hung up the call, cleaned up, and prepared to go to bed.

However, the air conditioning in the room seemed broken. As soon as she took off her down jacket, she felt chilled and quickly put it back on, grabbing the cute cat hand warmer for warmth. She then stepped out, intending to find the guesthouse manager to fix the air conditioning.

Julian Ford had just come up from the first floor and met Scarlett Shaw’s gaze as she was about to go downstairs.

Scarlett stood higher on the stairs, Julian below.

Even though she was looking down at him, his aloof and striking presence was so captivating it made her feel immobilized.

Of course, Scarlett had to admit silently that her own infatuated bias played a part in this.

Feigning indifference, she withdrew her gaze and headed downstairs. As she passed Julian, his gaze fell on the hand warmer she was holding.

"Did Jasper Spencer give you that?"

Feigning ignorance.

Scarlett’s fingers were cold, instinctively clutching the hand warmer tightly, "He did."

Julian Ford smiled slightly, his eyes cold, "You’ve known him for how long, yet you take gifts so readily?"

Scarlett Shaw found this quite nonsensical, "I don’t have such thoughts. When someone gives a gift, I naturally reciprocate to show gratitude."

Julian Ford retorted coldly, "You’re still going to give him a return gift?"

Scarlett Shaw closed her mouth, choosing to ignore further arguments with him. Whatever she said seemed wrong because he wouldn’t believe her.

Her current attitude only fueled Julian Ford’s already displeased mood further. Scarlett Shaw settled the score with Julian Ford after only a couple of steps, Julian Ford grabbed her arm, "Where are you going?"

Scarlett Shaw: "The air conditioning in my room is broken; I’m going to get it fixed."

Julian Ford: "The air conditioning can’t be fixed so quickly, you’re just going to freeze outside?"

Scarlett Shaw: "Of course not, I’m going to stay with friends."

Scarlett was naturally referring to Yana Yarrow. However, holding the hand warmer as she said this, Julian Ford interpreted she meant finding Jasper Spencer.

Without a word, Julian Ford directly took her upstairs.

It wasn’t too late yet, with the stairways crowded with guests. Scarlett Shaw wouldn’t have made the conflict too intense with Julian Ford. She struggled a bit but was forcibly taken to the third floor.

Stopping at a room door, she angrily raised the hand warmer, "Julian Ford, if you dare touch me, don’t force me to smash it over your head."

Julian Ford glancing at her indifferently, lacking interest.

He called over the guesthouse manager, took a room card, opened the door, and then faced Scarlett Shaw again, "You’ll stay in this room tonight."

Scarlett Shaw cautiously assessed, alert and defensive, frowning slightly, "What do you intend to do?"

Julian Ford calmly looked at her, "Your room is cold, so I’m giving you another one."

Scarlett Shaw glanced inside. This room was indeed warmer than the one she stayed in, more upscale, with a larger space; she imagined it was pricey.

She took a couple of steps back, "Forget about it, I can’t afford this."

Julian Ford: "The room arranged for you had issues; the guesthouse compensates, you’re moved for free."

Scarlett understood this was the Ford family’s property.

She confirmed with him, "You won’t change your mind tomorrow asking me to compensate for the price difference, right?"

Julian Ford was nearly amused by her, "Is that how you perceive me?"
