Chapter 77: Chapter 77: What Are You Hiding From

Jasper Spencer noticed Julian Ford quite early, and his intuition was right; just from that look between Julian Ford and Scarlett Shaw, something absolutely happened between them.

"Mind if I join your table?"

Josiah Sutton approached, adjusting his glasses, asking with a friendly smile. π•—π«πžπ•–π•¨πžπ—―πš—π• π˜ƒπžπš•.πœπ—Όπš–

Jasper Spencer curled his lips, "More than welcome."

They sat at a large table, Jasper Spencer opposite Scarlett Shaw and Yana Yarrow, just about to stand up to make room for Julian Ford and Josiah Sutton, intending to sit beside Scarlett Shaw. Unexpectedly, Julian Ford had already sat next to Scarlett Shaw, his movements skillful and natural.

Julian Ford’s cold aura filled the air, making Scarlett Shaw tense up, moving slightly to the side.

Julian Ford glanced at her sideways, "What are you hiding from?"

Scarlett Shaw: "..."

Honestly, to say she wasn’t guilty right now would be a lie.

With Julian Ford’s current mood, she’s been with him for half a year, yet still can’t sense it? Did he hear all those words earlier?

Scarlett Shaw instantly felt a sense of impending doom, as if facing a crisis.

Her face turned several shades paler.

Among those present was someone who didn’t know better, enjoying the drama and asking, "Why didn’t you bring your boyfriend today?"

Although Scarlett Shaw felt guilty before Julian Ford, she had no qualms with Jasper Spencer, and she straightened up to reply, "He’s busy with work, working overtime."

Jasper Spencer smiled knowingly.

He then looked at Julian Ford, asking with a playful tone, "What about your fiancΓ©e; why didn’t you bring her?"

Those three words, fiancΓ©e, were like a bucket of cold water, yet also a life preserver, causing Scarlett Shaw’s heart to tighten while also clutching onto a lifeline.

Her "boyfriend" was fake, but Julian Ford’s engagement was real.

He remained unflustered and unapologetic, while she felt like a thief, overly nervous, it was self-torture.

Julian Ford had no friendly countenance for Jasper Spencer, coldly retorting, "I heard The Spencer Group has a vacancy lately, you’re tired of racing, bored, thinking of returning to inherit the family business?"

That sentence was a direct hit to Jasper Spencer’s weakness.

With tongue pressed against the back teeth, his voice carried a hint of malice, "I’m not like you, getting married to a stranger due to a few words from the family, irresponsible to feelings and to Zoe."

"You’re certainly not me."

Julian Ford replied nonchalantly.

"Precisely because of your immature sentimentality, Zoe Sutton dismisses you, and your Spencer Family will always rank below the Ford family."

His words carried intent, and the listener certainly felt them.

Of course, Jasper Spencer wasn’t the only one affected; more touched by the words was Scarlett Shaw on the side, quietly eating her meat.

To say she’d never entertained any fanciful thoughts about Julian Ford is definitely impossible. When a woman develops feelings for a man, she always subconsciously searches for traces that the man might like her too; with Julian Ford, Scarlett Shaw had done exactly that.

Indeed, Julian Ford hadn’t been entirely unkind to her, otherwise she wouldn’t have developed feelings for him.

But listening to him speak so rationally and unemotionally now, recalling those so-called "kindnesses," they amounted to little more than him having a slight interest in her, so he’s willing to spend some patience; ultimately, it was about pleasing himself.

Scarlett Shaw’s eyes stung a bit, she ate a few more skewers of meat to comfort her wounded heart.

Jasper Spencer noticed and grilled a few more skewers, placing them in front of her, smiling, "I didn’t realize, your appetite is quite large."

Scarlett Shaw, in a bad mood, naturally accepted the meat handed to her, thanked him without reservation.

Julian Ford coldly watched, his gaze growing colder.

Scarlett Shaw felt a dark cloud hanging over her head, quickly finishing the meat at hand, then reluctantly looking at the ungrilled heap before dejectedly leaving the table, running off.

Yana Yarrow, having no words with the remaining three men, simply bid farewell and caught up with Scarlett Shaw near the hot springs behind the lodge, hugging her.

"My dear Scarlett, hurry and show me your boyfriend’s picture, is he handsome, does he have a good physique, I’ll check it out for you."

Yana Yarrow chattered away.

Scarlett Shaw gave her an exasperated look, then told her the truth.

After listening, Yana Yarrow’s gossiping light dimmed, she regretfully said, "I really thought you put a green hat on Julian Ford, foolishly excited. But those words you said earlier, seeing Julian Ford’s demeanor, he probably heard it all, won’t he retaliate?"

Scarlett Shaw rubbed her temples, "It’s not impossible."

Julian Ford is petty; even over something minor, as long as he believes she deceived him, he wouldn’t make her life easy. Now that this matter reached Julian Ford’s ears, he surely won’t show her any favorable countenance.

Yana Yarrow said, "It’s all Jasper Spencer’s fault, shamelessly asking nonsense suddenly."

Scarlett Shaw quite agreed with Yana Yarrow’s words.

Only, she thought a bit further. Jasper Spencer isn’t a fool; though asking her, he was targeting Julian Ford, which was quite clear.

It seemed like earlier on the ski slopes, when she’d been alone with Julian Ford, Jasper Spencer noticed something off; having had a grudge over Zoe Sutton and Julian Ford before, he probably used her as a tool, deliberately stirring things up to unsettle Julian Ford.

Now, whether Julian Ford is unsettled, Scarlett Shaw doesn’t know.

She just feels she’s incredibly unlucky.

How did she become an unwitting tool in this conflict between these two men over Zoe Sutton?

"Don’t overthink it; if the sky falls, there are taller folks to hold it up. Julian Ford is busy running endless tasks, about to get married; he surely won’t spare time to trouble you."

Yana Yarrow comforted Scarlett Shaw, feeling her spirits low.

Scarlett Shaw thought likewise, she and Julian Ford’s ties were cut off; he indeed had no reason to waste time on her.

The two turned their steps, just about to head back to the lodge together, when raising her eyes for a moment, Scarlett Shaw’s gaze caught Julian Ford standing in the snow, his tall and slim figure.

She pretended not to see, continuing forward, but as they brushed past, Julian Ford said coldly, "Stop."

Scarlett Shaw pressed her lips, distantly greeting, "President Ford."

Julian Ford’s gaze fell over her face, slightly lifting his eyelids, he glanced at Yana Yarrow with a cold, detached look.

Yana Yarrow was adept at reading the room.

Julian Ford’s expression clearly indicated she was quite unnecessary.

She squeezed Scarlett Shaw’s hand, winked, sister, I’m slipping away first.

Scarlett Shaw: ...

The guarantee was that if the sky falls, someone tall will hold it up.

Yana Yarrow’s conscience was weak, she’d miscalculated, realizing if the tall one was Julian Ford, it’d be better if the sky fell.
