Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 69: Quite a Temper
Ryan originally wanted to bring up Aaron and Scarlett, but after chatting for a few sentences, he felt that it wasn’t really a big deal, so he just said, "Nothing much, just asking casually."
Julian gave him a deep look.
The study.
Although Scarlett had been to the Cloud Mansion many times, it was her first time entering the study. After all, besides the guest room and public areas, other rooms were Julian’s private spaces, and she wouldn’t casually intrude.
The bookshelves were filled with books, mostly related to finance, but there were some literary works as well. Scarlett waited for ten minutes without any noise from outside, so she simply picked up a book by Dostoevsky to read.
However, this book seemed to be frequently read, with creased corners and some yellowing.
Just as Scarlett opened it, a photo drifted to the floor. She bent down to pick it up and saw in the photo two little boys, one with a cold and distant demeanor, the other with a cheerful smile.
It seemed to be Julian and Ryan.
Although Scarlett always knew about the good relationship between the two brothers, she actually hadn’t expected that, given Julian’s cold and detached nature, he would cherish photos of him and Ryan from their childhood so carefully.
No wonder, when she asked about Ryan, Julian immediately pulled a long face.
What older brother wouldn’t protect his younger brother?
Scarlett gently pinched the photo and placed it back where it belonged, not having the chance to close the book before the study door opened from the outside. Julian’s gaze fell on her hand, and his face instantly turned cold.
"Get out."
The hand holding the book trembled slightly as Scarlett swiftly returned the book to the shelf.
"Has Ryan left?" she confirmed.
Julian ignored her question, casting a cold glare at her. "Hasn’t anyone ever taught you not to touch other people’s things at random?"
Scarlett felt a stab in her chest. "Sorry, I was just looking for a book to read and didn’t expect there to be a photo of you and Ryan inside."
The moment she finished, the coldness in Julian’s eyes dissipated a bit, but his voice remained icy. "Don’t touch things randomly in the future."
Scarlett nodded. "I won’t."
Julian walked to the bookshelf, scanning it as if inspecting, before returning to the living room where he saw Scarlett had already changed into casual clothes and was carrying a small suitcase.
Julian pinched his brow. "It’s already late. Where are you going now?"
Scarlett calmly replied, "I’m better from my cold, so I won’t stay here and bother you anymore."
Julian: "Did I ever say you were bothering me?"
He hadn’t said so.
But the coldness and ruthlessness in his words, along with that unreserved "get out," made Scarlett not want to stay another second longer.
She ignored Julian, closed the door, and stormed out.
In an instant, the large house returned to a deathly silence.
Julian, with a blank expression, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and two minutes later, Scarlett’s small figure dragging a suitcase appeared in his view.
The moonlight was dim, the street lamps solitary.
Her figure soon disappeared from sight as well.
"Quite the temper."
Julian stood by the window for a long time, let out a cold snort, and rubbed his temples as if in headache.
...
After returning to her apartment, Scarlett went to see her grandmother the next day, on the weekend.
Grandma was recovering well. She had been discharged a few days ago and, as long as she avoided stress, took care of herself, paid attention to diet and rest, there shouldn’t be any major issues.
Scarlett made some light, healthy dishes for her grandmother, and after washing the dishes, she gave the elderly woman a massage while chatting with her.
"Is there something on our Scarlett’s mind?"
Grandma held her hand and asked concernedly.
Scarlett pursed her lips, nodded, and her eyes were tinged with red.
Grandma: "Is it because of Ford?"
Scarlett shook her head. Seeing the compassionate and caring look from her grandmother, she took a deep breath and said, "Grandma, I might have done something wrong. Maybe you can scold me a bit, but please don’t get upset yourself."
Grandma was startled for a moment, then laughed, "Was it something illegal?"
Scarlett: "No."
Grandma: "Immoral?"
"..."
Scarlett scratched her head. What happened between her and Julian wasn’t quite immoral, was it?
At most, it was just a bit of a lowered moral baseline, a bit thick-skinned, and a bit less dignified.
And also.
She just lost control of her feelings a little.
"Either way, it might be something that would make you angry and affect your health." Scarlett said vaguely.
"Is it related to the treatment I received recently?" Grandma asked.
Scarlett paused.
The elderly woman’s rough and aged hand gently caressed her cheek and smiled kindly, "No matter what happens, Grandma knows that Scarlett is trying hard to live and treat Grandma, so why would Grandma be angry with Scarlett?"
Scarlett sniffed, "But last time, Uncle came to see you, and you got angry and hurt yourself. I was so scared then."
Grandma sighed, "Your uncle, I don’t know when he started hanging out with your brother-in-law and got into gambling. Always talking about needing hundreds of thousands from me. I just lost my temper for a moment."
Scarlett frowned, "Next time he comes to you, please don’t pay attention to him or get mad."
"Don’t worry, having lost my temper once, I’ll be used to it next time." Grandma smiled, "Although Grandma is old, living and learning, I can still learn from my mistakes. How could one fall for the same thing twice?"
The elderly woman’s humor and optimism made Scarlett unable to hold back her laughter. She curved her lips, smiling widely as she hugged her grandmother.
In the evening, when Scarlett was leaving her grandma’s place, she received a message from Julian, three words: Come to the Cloud Mansion.
Scarlett ignored it.
The conversation between Julian and Ryan last night, though muffled through the door, occasionally let a word about marriage slip, and she knew what was going on in an instant.
Julian was Ryan’s brother, and her boss. If her not-so-flattering relationship with him was exposed, it would be her who would suffer from Ryan’s wrath, and she who wouldn’t be able to continue working at the company. In every scenario, things wouldn’t end well for her.
Now that Julian had marriage plans, continuing the way they had would only end up worse for her.
Anyway, as long as Grandma was comforted, it was a source of reassurance. As long as Grandma was okay, Scarlett feared nothing.
She didn’t respond to the message, and Julian, on the other end, didn’t make a move for several days either.
Scarlett thought, if things could just end this peacefully, that would be for the best.
At night, Scarlett had a work engagement. The client was a major industrial giant with whom Veridian was planning an important strategic collaboration. The person in charge on their end, President Lawson, enjoyed drinking, and Skyler almost couldn’t handle it. Scarlett hurried to join, drinking quite a bit as well.
However, her alcohol tolerance was ultimately no match for these two drinking masters, and she soon felt a bit dizzy, apologizing as she stepped out of the restaurant for fresh air.
As night fell and the city lights came on.
A few strands of evening breeze blew over, dissipating some of the tipsiness.
This restaurant was a standalone building, a three-story villa with a garden. Scarlett, having just walked to the edge of the flowerbed, saw a luxury six-seater business car slowly stopping at the entrance. At the same time, the restaurant’s waitstaff welcomed them warmly and respectfully. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Julian, dressed in a dark coat, got out of the car, and in that instant, their eyes met.
