Chapter 44: Chapter 44: What Cat Did You Pick Up?

Scarlett Shaw and Julian Ford are standing on the boarding stairs. He is much taller than her, and now standing above her on the steps, looking down at her. The oppressive feeling from someone in a superior position hits Scarlett hard, and she feels suffocated.

However, this isn’t the most suffocating part.

The most suffocating thing for Scarlett is that Ryan Ford is sitting in the first-class cabin.

Ryan has just finished a call, casually tossing his phone onto the table. He glances at Scarlett with his peach blossom eyes, momentarily pausing and meeting her gaze before it lands on Julian behind her.

Ryan moves his lips to greet him, "Brother."

Julian gives a slight nod and sits down in the seat across the aisle from Ryan.

Aaron Carson looks at Scarlett and points to the seat by the window next to Julian, "Aren’t you going to sit down?"

Scarlett is still struggling, "Is there no other seat?"

Aaron raises an eyebrow, "Isn’t that seat good?"

Scarlett glares at him fiercely.

What do you think?!

Aaron: "Then how about you switch with me?"

He gestures to the empty seat next to Ryan.

Scarlett: "..."

Ryan curbs his usual playboy demeanor in front of Julian, restraining himself much more than usual.

Even though his gaze lingers on Scarlett, he says nothing frivolous, instead engaging Julian in conversation about the business of Veridian.

Scarlett resigns herself and walks up to Julian.

Softly, she says, "President Ford, could you let me pass?"

The first-class seats are spacious, and Julian leans back slightly, leaving enough room for Scarlett to get through.

Scarlett tries to stay as close to the front as possible, avoiding any physical contact with Julian.

In the aisle, the stewardess picks up a suitcase, intending to place it in the overhead compartment, but underestimates its weight, loses her grip, and stumbles backward, bumping into Scarlett.

Caught off guard, Scarlett lands directly on Julian’s lap.

Before she can react, Julian lightly pinches her waist.

Scarlett’s nerves tense up.

Instinctively, she looks to the other side.

Luckily, the stewardess’s position blocks Ryan’s line of sight, preventing him from seeing what just happened.

Scarlett breathes a sigh of relief and quickly bounces off Julian, sitting in her own seat.

Throughout the entire process, Julian unobtrusively takes in Scarlett’s expressions, finding amusement in them as she lowers her head to fasten her seatbelt.

"Have the data analyses from those two companies in Hibiscus City been completed?"

Julian suddenly asks.

Mentioning work, Scarlett doesn’t dare be lazy, and concisely reports on the recent cash flow and stock price data of Windrunner and Corechip.

When these two companies were being evaluated, Julian was leaning towards Corechip, but later when making a decision, he considered both.

Scarlett reports with clear organization, quickly delivering the key points Julian wants to hear in just a few words.

Even Aaron can’t help but take a second look at her.

Julian listens without any change in expression, simply saying indifferently, "Not bad."

As the two words fall, Aaron’s already surprised gaze shows undisguised astonishment and even Ryan, who had remained silent on the side, turns to glance at Scarlett.

Though their identities differ, they are surprised at the same point.

After all, whether it’s Ryan or Aaron, they rarely hear Julian expressing clear approval or acknowledgment in daily life or work.

As for Scarlett—

She keeps her eyes forward, face unchanging, with an appearance of unwavering calmness.

Alright, actually she’s a bit happy to receive recognition from the boss.

However, this little bit of happiness pales in comparison to the anxiety in Scarlett’s heart, which feels insignificant.

Julian, this jerk, must be taking revenge for what she said in front of Zoe Sutton earlier, deliberately pulling her to his side while Ryan is present to endure this long, nerve-racking ordeal for more than ten hours.

"Brother, it was raining heavily last night. Weren’t you at the hotel?"

Ryan stretches his long legs, lazily looking at Julian.

Though in the corner of his eye, he seems to catch sight of Scarlett’s face.

Julian is reading a financial magazine, setting it down at the comment, and looking at Ryan, "How did you know?"

"Mom told me." Ryan’s lips curve into a smirk, carrying a hint of mockery not understood by outsiders, "She really extends herself, not even sparing your whereabouts abroad. Though I’m curious, she hasn’t managed to do much about you these past few years, how come she knows everything even when you’re overseas?"

Julian says coolly, "No need to wonder, there’s nothing she can’t do."

Ryan pauses, seeming to think of something, then smirks, "True enough."

The first-class cabin is relatively private, and there are only four of them here. Scarlett and Aaron are Julian’s subordinates, so the two brothers don’t hold back much in their chat.

However, Scarlett still finds it surprising that the relationship between Julian and Ryan is much better than she imagined.

Moreover, it’s not that kind of fake brotherly affection.

Ryan specifically tagged along this trip abroad to assist Julian in business negotiations. Some things require special measures, which are relatively troublesome for Julian but much easier for Ryan.

This is also what Scarlett hears from their conversation.

She listens, feeling sleepy.

Though the first-class seat is spacious enough to lie down and sleep, sitting next to Julian, she feels prickly all over and utterly restless.

"So, Brother, where did you go last night?"

"Picked up a cat."

The suggestive "picked up a cat" phrase Julian uses not only surprises Ryan but also wakes Scarlett right up, making her sit up straight like a startled carp, warily pricking up her ears, afraid Julian might say something else to unsettle her.

"Picked up a cat? What kind of cat?" Ryan asked.

Julian glances leisurely, eyes returning to the financial magazine again, speaking quietly, "What kind of cat do you think?"

Ryan’s playful nature almost immediately gets Julian’s underlying implication, inevitably surprised, "No wonder I heard from the steward that Mom threw a huge fit at home today, smashing cups and bowls, even angered herself into the hospital. Turns out it’s because of you."

Julian indifferently lifts the corners of his lips, not responding.

This flight back to the country is nearly twelve hours long, and Ryan and Julian’s conversation doesn’t last much longer, soon they’re preoccupied with their own affairs.

Ryan, feeling sleepy, summons the flight attendant to close the curtain by his seat.

Throughout the process, there is complete tranquility, with no interaction or conflict with Scarlett.

Which shows how much he respects and looks up to Julian.

Thinking about this, Scarlett can’t help but glance at Julian again, her expression becoming undeniably complicated.

Her gaze is direct, and Julian is naturally aware, soon turning his head to meet her eyes in silence.

The cold and distant black gaze becomes gradually profound as they lock eyes. As Scarlett attempts to look away, Julian calmly reaches over and draws down the curtain, sealing them in a small space together. He leans over and presses down her chin, kissing her lips.

Scarlett’s pupils widen, pushing against him in struggle.

Julian whispers in her ear, "Want me to make you moan and let Ryan hear it?"
