Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 397 - 376: Fly Without Worries
"I was planning to go back to Z City to find you tomorrow afternoon, why did you come over today?" Simon Forrester asked during dinner, "Did something happen?"
Sienna Thornton served him soup and picked some dishes: "No, today the people from the Treaty and Law Department asked me to come over."
"The Treaty and Law Department of the Ministry of Commerce?"
"Yes." Sienna then mentioned her meeting with Director-General Linton in the afternoon and her concerns.
Simon Forrester didn’t immediately express an opinion. He thought silently for a while, then said, "You once said that when finances aren’t a problem, you wanted to join a national organization and serve the country."
Hearing this, Sienna remembered her passionate ideals. But despite that, reality couldn’t be ignored.
She furrowed her brows, sighing helplessly, "I thought it over, if I really go to work at the Treaty and Law Department, I need to start saving money. After all, the salary for a public servant is quite low."
"How low?"
Sienna wasn’t sure how to describe the meager salary of public servants to Simon Forrester, who would easily spend tens of thousands on a single sip of red wine. After thinking for a while, she lifted her wine glass, shaking it as she looked at the luxurious liquid inside, and laughed: "So low that I might only be able to afford one-fifth of a bottle of Romanee Conti."
With that, Simon Forrester understood.
He took a sip of the Romanee Conti next to him, gazed at Sienna for a while, then suddenly got up and left the dining room.
Sienna thought he went to the restroom, so she didn’t follow, continuing to sip her wine.
After a while, Simon Forrester came out, holding something in his hand. Instead of returning to his seat, he walked around to Sienna’s side, kneeling on one knee.
Sienna was startled and instinctively tried to help him up, "Get up, what are you doing?"
He looked deeply into her eyes, opened his palm to reveal a light gray velvet jewelry box.
An oval-shaped deep blue diamond ring was firmly set in the ring’s prongs.
Sienna was both surprised and delighted, "Is this ring for me? When did you buy it?"
Simon Forrester smiled, taking her right hand and slipping the diamond ring onto her right ring finger, "Marry me."
Without hesitation, she nodded rapidly, leaning down to embrace him, "Yes!"
On her ring finger was still the token ring they had bought together in Azure Harbor, which she had never taken off. At this moment, Simon Forrester directly set the diamond ring and the token ring together.
The silver-white platinum ring paired with the deep blue, over five-carat, egg-shaped diamond ring, combined with the simple gold token ring, surprisingly created a contradictory beauty.
Sienna looked down at the rings on her finger, her hands trembling slightly. Even though she wasn’t an expert in jewelry, she knew blue diamonds were rare and deep blue ones even more precious.
She didn’t know how much Simon Forrester spent on the diamond and didn’t ask; she was just happy and surprised as she leaned down to hug him.
Simon Forrester embraced her, tenderly kissing her hair, "Rest assured, you can fly freely, I’ll always be your strongest support."
She buried her face in his neck, murmuring, "But I’ve already decided to rely on myself from now on."
"In your career?" he asked.
She nodded.
He smiled, reaching out to tousle her hair, "Silly girl, going to the Treaty and Law Department, you’ll really only be able to rely on yourself. It’s not like I can help you over there."
She giggled, burrowing her face into his neck like a kitten.
Simon Forrester said, "Don’t worry about the low salary, I’m working at ’The Forresters’ now, getting paid every month, plus the design office gives annual dividends, so what are you worrying about?"
In their two years together, Sienna had never asked him for money. Hearing this, while she was unaccustomed, she was also a bit unexpectedly moved, "But doesn’t that mean I’m relying on you?"
"When we were dating, OK, you could keep things clear with me. But after we’re married, are you still going to fuss over these things with me?"
She didn’t reply.
Simon Forrester held her for a while, seeing she didn’t respond, he continued, "Silly girl, what is a couple? It’s the closest, most legally protected relationship in the world, one that transcends all other relationships. Parents will grow old, siblings will have their own families, children will grow up and leave us. From beginning to end, until the last moment, spending a lifetime together, and even being buried together after death, that is being a couple!"
She sniffed, "I know. But why is it you supporting me instead of me supporting you..."
He was exasperated yet amused, turning his face to kiss her stubborn lips, "I support you, you support our child, who will then support me. Doesn’t that mean you’re really supporting me?"
"Hmm?" She pondered for a moment, "That kind of makes sense."
.
With Simon Forrester’s comforting and guidance, Sienna felt much clearer in her mind.
In fact, she understood all the reasoning Simon Forrester mentioned. It’s just that she was used to discussing everything with him and took the opportunity to also share her inner conflicts while discussing matters.
They agreed that after Sienna settled into her job at the Treaty and Law Department, they would set a date to get married.
Even though Quentin Thorne was very much against Sienna marrying into the Forrester Family, Sienna seemed unconcerned about it, focusing instead on how she would balance her career and family after their marriage, working in such a busy department like the Treaty and Law Department.
They spent another sweet night together that night. The next day, Simon Forrester went to work at ’The Forresters’ for half a day, then took Sienna back to Z City at noon to spend the weekend with her.
Coincidentally, Quentin Thorne came over again on Saturday afternoon, this time saying he would stay in Z City for one night and return to Brimfield on Sunday.
After ending the call with Quentin Thorne, when Sienna rolled back into Simon Forrester’s arms, she heard him teasingly say, "Your dad has to come over every weekend to check on his princess left in Z City."
Sienna remembered Quentin Thorne coming on the weekend last time too and smiled helplessly, "He really does."
"Will you be meeting him later?"
Sienna nodded, "Yes."
"Then I’ll come with you."
Sienna: "..."
Because Simon Forrester was there, Sienna only mentioned to Quentin Thorne her intention to work at the Treaty and Law Department. As expected, Quentin Thorne was supportive, even nervously suggesting that when she starts her job, he would arrange a meal with Director-General Linton to ask him to take good care of Sienna.
It was like an anxious father concerned that his child might have trouble adjusting at their new workplace, disregarding his own status, only thinking of ways to pave the way for his child.
.
On Monday morning, Sienna replied to Director-General Linton, agreeing to officially start at the Treaty and Law Department on March 1st.
Once this matter was confirmed, she immediately canceled her residence in Z City, arranged to have Melinda Linton’s apartment in Brimfield cleaned, and contacted Auntie King, who took care of her after her leg injury two years ago, to start looking after Melinda Linton in March.
So, after living in Z City for a month, Sienna moved Melinda Linton back to Brimfield.
Though she had once cried about separating from Simon Forrester for a while, in the end, they couldn’t truly part.
