Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 203 - 201: The Forrester Family’s War
Mrs. Forrester’s words had barely left her lips when Grandma Forrester asked, "Whose daughter is she?"
"Why ask which family’s girl?" Old Master Forrester suddenly shouted, "Jules’ marriage is my business! None of you should interfere in this matter!"
Mrs. Forrester didn’t like hearing this. Her expression darkened immediately, and she placed her chopsticks on the table. Despite her grim face, she still smiled charmingly, "Dad, that’s not how it works. I carried Jules for ten months and gave birth to him with great effort. As his mother, do I have no say in his marriage? Does that make sense?"
Old Master Forrester chuckled coldly, "When you asked me to take care of Jules, you promised that I’d have the final say over his education, career, and even his marriage! What? Now that I’ve raised the child, are you going to use me and kick me to the curb? Do you think I’m useless, and you can just cast me aside? Let me tell you! As long as I’m here in the Forrester Family, what I say goes!"
After Old Master Forrester finished speaking, Bianca Fordham quickly agreed, "Of course, back then, just after Jules was weaned, sister-in-law, you went to Franland, coming back twice a year, once for New Year and once for Jules’ birthday. Usually, Dad was the one raising Jules, and as an elderly person, do you know how tough it is to raise a child? Especially during the time when kids are learning to walk, Dad was running around behind him every day, and now his back problems are due to taking care of your child back then! You haven’t been around Jules all these years, do you even know what kind of girl he likes? You don’t, yet you come back and want to introduce him to someone, someone who isn’t she just a daughter of one of your friends? And to speak frankly, which of your friend’s daughters have turned out well? Are they worthy of our family’s Jules?"
Bianca’s words undoubtedly fueled Old Master Forrester’s emotions, making him feel even more aggrieved, and his determination to oppose his daughter-in-law hardened further!
Mrs. Forrester was trembling with anger.
Zane Forrester could only hold her hand tightly, asking Bianca to say less. But because Bianca was his older sister, and she spoke in defense of Old Master Forrester, Zane Forrester couldn’t say anything too harsh to Bianca on behalf of his wife.
Sienna Thornton watched silently as the family bickered.
The remark from Old Master Forrester to his daughter-in-law about "using and kicking to the curb" was really sharp! No wonder Mrs. Forrester was extremely aggrieved but had nothing to say.
Simon Forrester nonchalantly drank his soup, occasionally putting some delicious food on Sienna Thornton’s plate while the others were arguing. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Sienna Thornton glanced at him, finally knowing who he inherited his temper and sharp tongue from.
She scratched his palm under the table, and he grabbed her hand, holding it tightly and not letting go.
The family continued their polite bickering. Bianca Fordham, who never liked her sister-in-law, naturally sided with Old Master Forrester.
Zane Forrester was caught in the middle, feeling at a loss.
Matriarch Forrester also sided with her daughter.
After a chaotic round, Mrs. Forrester faced three people, among whom were two experts at arguing, Old Master Forrester and Bianca Fordham. Mrs. Forrester was utterly defeated.
In the end, Mrs. Forrester ended up crying uncontrollably in Zane Forrester’s arms, and he hurriedly took her to the room.
With that, the farce came to an end.
Sienna Thornton was dumbfounded.
With everyone gone, Old Master Forrester was cheerful again, inviting everyone to continue eating.
Mr. Chambers and Mr. Chase, the two vice presidents, looked unfazed, making Sienna Thornton guess this wasn’t the first time the Foresters had publicly bickered.
Throughout the entire farce, she felt Mrs. Forrester was beautiful, but always fussy and dramatic. Even though she knew Old Master Forrester wouldn’t agree to her finding a match for Simon, she insisted on bringing it up in such an occasion, seemingly wanting to assert her status in the Forrester Family, only to be sternly rejected and have old grievances dragged into it.
Presumably, Old Master Forrester harbored significant grievances about his daughter-in-law going abroad right after giving birth to her grandson and even being unwilling to have a second child.
Sienna Thornton mused that Mrs. Forrester’s emotional and intellectual intelligence seemed slightly low, perhaps due to being abroad for so long, used to speaking frankly, or maybe it was Zane Forrester spoiling her.
-
The main banquet concluded, and the servants brought out the cake.
Simon Forrester symbolically blew out a candle, then had the servant cut the cake and handed a piece to each person.
While he and Old Master Forrester went out to toast with the guests, Sienna Thornton sat alone at her seat, idly scrolling through her phone.
The reappearing couple, Zane Forrester and Mrs. Forrester, came back, with Mrs. Forrester having changed into a gilded, modernized qipao, draped with a white fur stole, looking very elegant and noble.
Bianca Fordham saw this and scoffed, sarcastically saying, "Still in the mood to change clothes, truly a peacock."
Sienna Thornton also looked up at Zane Forrester and his wife in the distance.
Mrs. Forrester was currently bending down speaking with a woman about fifty years old, after which she then shook hands and chatted with a young woman next to that lady.
The young woman was Nina Sinclair.
Sienna Thornton thought she was mistaken, so she closed her eyes tightly and looked again, only to see that Nina Sinclair had already gotten up with Mrs. Forrester, heading towards Simon Forrester and Old Master Forrester.
Mrs. Forrester’s hand was affectionately on Nina Sinclair’s back.
Whatever they said to Old Master Forrester caused Simon Forrester, who stood by Old Master Forrester, to blacken his face and leave quickly. As he returned, he asked Mr. Chambers and Mr. Chase, "Mr. Chambers, Mr. Chase, how did you get here today?"
Mr. Chambers and Mr. Chase looked at Sienna Thornton, "We came with Mr. Thornton’s car."
Simon Forrester: "Okay then, I’ll go with you."
With that, he picked up the suit jacket hanging on the rack and gestured, "Ladies and gentlemen, let’s head out first."
Mr. Chambers and Mr. Chase exchanged glances, looked at Bianca Fordham, who also stood up, "Since you all are leaving, we’ll be off too."
Grandma Forrester, still seated, grew anxious, "Hey, if you all leave, won’t it just be me, an old lady, left here?"
Bianca Fordham replied, "Mom, if you’re tired, go rest early. I’ll come by to pick you up in a few days."
Matriarch Forrester: "Then I’ll see you out."
A group of people walked towards the front door and ran into Old Master Forrester, who was accompanied by an even older gentleman. Behind the old gentleman were five men aged between twenty and thirty, each outstanding and impressive.
Old Master Forrester stopped Simon Forrester, "Jules, come and greet Grandpa Grant from next door."
At the sight, Simon Forrester thought: Isn’t this the Eldest Grant from next door, whom our old man envied for having four grandsons and a grandson-in-law?
Friendships among the elderly can be quite peculiar sometimes. Having envied someone for over thirty years, yet still inviting them and their five grandsons over for a birthday feast? Probably confident in resolving years of envy by believing he could have three grandsons in the future?
Simon Forrester chuckled inside, quickly stepped forward to shake hands with the man, then shook hands one by one with the four men standing behind.
"Ms. Thornton?"
A sudden young voice called out.
Standing behind Simon Forrester, Sienna Thornton instinctively looked over, but before she could react, the young man walked over and hugged her, "I’m Ronan Grant. Don’t you remember me, Ms. Thornton? So you’ve come to Cyrus’ birthday party today too?"
Sienna Thornton was in a daze for a while before remembering that this person was once hired by Simon Forrester to buy an inn. Just as she was about to greet him, Ronan Grant asked, "When are you and Cyrus getting married? When the time comes, can I be the best man?"
