Otherworldly Affairs Office-Chapter 68: Battle Ends
Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Battle Ends
Pei Yan couldn’t figure out if it was out of revenge or mischief that drove him. After putting the restraining cuffs on He Yue, he dragged his remaining good leg and pulled him next to Liu Yu.
"Good, serves you right, you real piece of shit!" Liu Yu cursed at his former teammate, a traitor who had abandoned them, now miserably dragged beside him. He swore while using his remaining good leg to kick He Yue unceasingly.
"Alright, stop kicking, or you’ll kill him, and you’ll be held accountable for murder!" Pei Yan, sitting on the ground, after observing Hu Wenjun’s battle for a while, turned his head back and said to the two.
Perhaps genuinely worried about killing He Yue, or now having to listen to commands, Liu Yu stopped his kicking after hearing Pei Yan’s words and scooted over to He Yue, repeatedly spitting onto his face.
At this moment, the battle on Hu Wenjun’s side was nearing its end. What originally required multiple people to suppress was almost instantly reversed after Shangxing joined the fray.
Pushed to the brink, Zou Changxing looked at his companion, beaten to near death by Shangxing, then down at his severely burnt left side, sighed despondently, and raised his hands straightforwardly: "I surrender!"
"Why don’t you plan a fight to the death, break through the Jiezhi Space to escape?" Hu Wenjun declined Shangxing’s assistance, covering his trembling right arm with his bare upper body, and asked with a smile.
"If I forcefully break through, I can break the blockade, but seeing as Wenlin is probably waiting outside, in my current physical state, even if I break through, I wouldn’t be a match for him. Captain Hu, don’t provoke me; I understand, we all follow rules, as long as I give up resisting, you won’t kill me! That’s the rule!"
Zou Changxing said, directly holding up both hands and shaking them: "Come on, Captain Hu, cuff me, don’t let the spoils go to outsiders, I’ll give you this credit!"
"Zou Changxing, you know that in this Jiezhi Space, even if I kill you, nobody would know!" A burst of flames flared up in Hu Wenjun’s left hand, intensifying with each step he took forward.
"Sure, no problem, kill me, but will you? Think about it, Captain Hu, you have juniors watching you, set a good example for him! Kill me!" Zou Changxing, indifferent and backfiring with a shout, turned his head towards Pei Yan and yelled: "I surrender! I officially give up resisting and surrender to the Otherworld Investigation Bureau! I surrender!"
Then he raised his head provocatively towards Hu Wenjun, whispering low enough for only the two of them to hear: "Come on, come on! Kill me!"
Hu Wenjun shook his head helplessly at the audacious Zou Changxing. The flames on him gradually extinguished as two restraining cuffs appeared in his hands, which he slowly placed on Zou Changxing’s wrists. Self-deprecatingly, he said, "You’re something else, you really are!"
"Right, Captain Hu, so between us..."
Before Zou Changxing could finish his sentence as he leaned his head towards Hu Wenjun, Hu Wenjun’s fist fiercely punched his face, followed by a kick that knocked him down.
Shangxing then joined in, and the two of them kicked Zou Changxing brutally. Zou Changxing, though knocked down and being kicked, didn’t beg for mercy but laughed loudly instead, the more he laughed, the harder they kicked, until he lost consciousness and breathed heavily. Only then did Hu Wenjun pull Shangxing back and stop.
Shaking his arm, Hu Wenjun walked to Pei Yan, who was sitting on the ground looking bewildered: "Well done, how are you?"
"Ah, pretty good, pretty good! Just not sure if my arm can still be saved," Pei Yan responded quietly.
Hu Wenjun began searching up and down his clothes, only to find that the cigarettes had been burned in the fight earlier. He licked his lips in the end and said, "Don’t release the mechanical state of your injured arm just yet. Wait until we return to the bureau when Elder Lin is present to handle it."
"Understood!"
"Did you see anything just now?" Hu Wenjun asked, hands on hips, tilting his head and staring at Pei Yan.
Pei Yan, mouth wide open, mumbled incomprehensibly: "Ah! What? See what? I didn’t see anything?"
"No, you saw it. You saw Zou Changxing resisting to the end, being subdued by Shangxing and me! Severely injured, right?"
Pei Yan nodded repeatedly and quickly said: "Ah, right! Right, right, exactly like that. Oh my, Zou Changxing, viciously fierce, resisted fiercely!"
"All right, those are the official words to report above. Now, the private words between us men: Not killing him is because of the bureau’s rules, and we have to follow them; beating him is because of brotherhood. Two colleagues in the bureau died at this guy’s hands, two with families still having a wife and children, and parents to take care of, only to die at the hands of such a brute. Even though they sacrificed for this country, they can’t even tell their families and instead get anonymously marked as accidental deaths. This is our future fate; this is the path we have to take. Do you understand what I’m saying?"
Listening to Hu Wenjun’s words, Pei Yan slowly stood up from the ground, took off his helmet, and faced Hu Wenjun seriously, a complete departure from the earlier carefree attitude, standing at attention and saluting solemnly: "Understood!"
Hu Wenjun nodded, gratified, patting his shoulder: "Gather everyone together. There’ll be someone coming to take them away soon!"
"Yes!" After saluting, Pei Yan returned to his previous demeanor, bending down to grab He Yue’s leg and walking alongside Hu Wenjun, half-jokingly saying: "Actually, Captain Hu, even if you did kill him, I wouldn’t have said anything."
"Not killing him is firstly because of the bureau’s regulations and my moral bottom line, secondly because..." Hu Wenjun bent down to pull up Liu Yu, who was twisting his body constantly, and pushed him forward, slowly speaking as he staggered alongside him.
"It’s because of the traitor, right?" Pei Yan lowered his head and sighed.
"You figured it out too?"
"Only an idiot wouldn’t. These bastards, they even know what my parents do, and where my sister works. The bureau’s confidentiality work is really lacking, right? Captain Hu, is my family’s safety truly guaranteed?" Pei Yan, despite his earlier bravado with He Yue, was still deep down anxious and filled with apprehension for his family’s safety.
"Rest assured, the bureau has a special protection scheme for key family members within the bureau. Your family was provided with such treatment at the first opportunity. If anything happens to them, I guarantee that our people will be on site at the soonest. Whether it’s fortunate or unfortunate, after tonight’s events, my family will also enjoy such treatment," Hu Wenjun shook his head, wistfully self-mocking.
