Otherworldly Affairs Office-Chapter 625: First Arrival at the Dao Law (Seeking Subscription)
"You've mastered the ability to compress origin energy?" Gu Shenghui stared at Pei Yan with delight.
"Sort of. For the past four years, what I've experienced is the process of repeatedly compressing and refining origin energy. Though my strength is currently at a mere Tier Six Awakening, I dare say that in terms of the purity and storage of origin energy, even... um, my two attendants can't compare with me." Pei Yan nearly misspoke and awkwardly changed the topic by rubbing his nose, "But even so, a lot of excess origin energy overflowed during absorption, so Lin Junzhao taught me how to refine compressed and solidified origin energy fragments. That's how I've accumulated these fragments."
Gu Shenghui patted Pei Yan on the shoulder and said mockingly, "Thank you for sparing my dignity and not mentioning me! So, how many of these origin energy fragments have you cultivated yourself?"
Seeing the sly look on Gu Shenghui's face, Pei Yan immediately became wary and bemoaned, "Not much. This time I considered the teachings of the two instructors and, despite the pressure, gave away most of what I had. Ah, decades of hard work, back to square one overnight."
"Oh, come on, I can't believe it. Your upbringing and family conditions aren't bad, so why do you act like such a stingy landlord? Once you grab onto something, prying it from you is as hard as ascending to heaven. Just tell us how many good things you've scavenged from the battlefield over these years. We won't ask for them—it's what you earned. You could at least let us take a look and broaden our horizons." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Confronted by Gu Shenghui's uncovering of his true nature, Pei Yan immediately adopted a "fearless under fire" attitude: "Look? As soon as you look, it'll be yours, not mine. I already regret showing those fragments in front of you."
"Ah, it's tough being a good person, isn't it? We aren't like those two instructors of yours, mentors and friends who offer compassionate care. We're just unappreciated supporters in the background! Ah, forget it, this happens all the time. I understand, I really empathize with your feelings." Gu Shenghui said, standing with hands behind his back, his eyes glistening with feigned indignation.
Pei Yan squinted at Gu Shenghui's hypocritical act in front of him, sighed disdainfully after a while, "I give up!" He pulled out a cloth bag and tossed it to Gu Shenghui, "Just ten pieces and no more. Use them as you wish and don't need to inform me."
With that, he turned and walked toward the dormitory. However, Gu Shenghui, who caught the bag, persistently followed behind and asked, "I heard you traded three Origin Seeds of Death Power from Xila. You gave one to Ye Ruozai to use when appropriate. What about the other two, how do you plan to use them?"
"I have my own plans!"
"And what about the spoils you've collected? Just how much are we talking about? This battle, we contributed a lot too; we should report this so the hall knows, right?"
"Kindly roll away from my side!" Pei Yan covered his ears, yelled wildly, and vanished with the speed of the wind from the scene. A moment longer and Gu Shenghui would have uncovered all his possessions.
This altercation directly resulted in Pei Yan, upon seeing Gu Shenghui spiritedly the next day, being on the brink of emotional collapse due to heartache. He had nowhere to vent, which left his entire demeanor dark and ominous. Even as they set off for the Daoist Plane, he was disinterested and withdrawn.
Upon reaching the Daoist Plane, Pei Yan remained silent, quietly observing the exchange of pleasantries between Gu Shenghui and the sect disciples who came to greet them. He mutedly joined the group on the novel transporting magical artifact and listened to the sect disciples endlessly boast about their sect's prowess in artifact refining, all the while remaining inconspicuous within the crowd.
"What are they bragging about? This thing only looks novel at first; its flying speed isn't even as fast as our helicopters!" Sitting on the tastefully crafted Immortal Artifact shaped like a small boat, watching it fly in the air with clouds around, Jiang Feiyang finally noticed the disdain and dismissive undertone in the looks and words of the receiving members towards the investigation hall personnel. Slighted, he turned to Pei Yan and complained in a low voice.
Pei Yan glanced at Jiang Feiyang, who had changed significantly since reaching Tier Six. His abilities having been developed, he was capable of both group attacks and solo engagements. As long as he wasn't instantly subdued, given a chance at a comeback, he was a nightmare for enemies. The hall had dispatched him to guard against large-scale skirmishes.
"Exactly! What do they mean by their artifact refining being unparalleled under heaven and worlds away from the side paths of other planes? Do they think we can't understand?" Zhao Yuanhu couldn't hold back anymore and chimed in.
Only then did Pei Yan come back to his senses, huddling closer to the ferry's edge. He lamented, "It's marvelous, sure, but they overlooked details. Flying this high without any warmth measures makes sense, though, these Immortals have their aura as protection; they probably don't need such things."
"Yeah, Old Jiang, I suggest you eat less. They didn't bring heaters, and they certainly didn't install toilets. If you eat too much and have nowhere to relieve yourself, you'll be in trouble." Wang Wenze quipped, patting Jiang Feiyang's belly as he snacked, prompting raucous laughter from the hall's team.
Their laughter immediately attracted disdainful looks from several Guiding Disciples. The astonishment and envy they showed when witnessing the Immortal Artifact had been noted earlier. This scene only reinforced the stereotype of the cornerstone plane's ignorance and weak power, and their boisterousness now further deepened the disdain, prompting more barbed and harsh comments.
"What's their issue? Just say it, do they think we're scared?" Jiang Feiyang slapped his leg angrily, about to react, but was pressed down by Wang Wenze, who quietly warned, "Be still! You should have been ready for this before coming! If you can't handle a bit of cold remarks, we've got a problem."
Pei Yan gave the disciples a hard glance and backed Wang Wenze's words, "Brother Wang is right. The situation here is different from the Hell Plane. We're here as honored guests; if we act out because of a few low-level disciples' words, we'll end up looking petty. Just endure it for now. If they cross the line, we'll seize the opportunity to show them what's what."
Sitting back in his spot after being calmed down, Jiang Feiyang revived his spirits, then looked at the head guiding disciple, grinning darkly, "If there's a chance, leave him to me!"
"What did he do to you?" Pei Yan followed Jiang Feiyang's gaze to a man with a tall figure, wearing a green Daoist robe, exuding elegance yet with a touch of acerbic sharpness in his thin face.
"When we boarded, he secretly mocked me as a pig to a female disciple, thinking I didn't hear!" Jiang Feiyang said through gritted teeth.
