Otherworldly Affairs Office-Chapter 604 Bargaining (Seeking Subscription)
As Pei Yan spoke, he stood up from the chair, six forms of energy floating in his palm, and continued, "These two fragments contain the most fundamental abilities of the origin. They are like two seeds. With them, not only can you grow stronger as your own strength increases, but you can also store the same type of origin you absorb later on, nurturing them within and thus using them effortlessly."
As he said this, Pei Yan collected the energy in his hand, chuckling lightly, "Otherwise, even if you accidentally obtain other dimensional origin fragments and risk absorbing them, they will merely be trees without roots, water without source, only giving you temporary energy which will disperse once the fragment's origin is depleted and then become useless." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
At this point, Pei Yan couldn't help but recall Su Xiang. He initially agreed to help him acquire Demon Race fragments precisely because he understood this principle. However, the current situation had changed, as he seemed to be able to achieve more with dimensional fragments. Thinking of this, Pei Yan subconsciously touched his right eye, a fervent anticipation rising in his heart.
"But you have already exchanged so many fragments with my race, even with a two-for-one deal, you shouldn't be so stingy," Xila shrugged at Pei Yan's words, her frosty appearance showing a rare display of silly demeanor as she bargained.
"Hmph, these were earned by my brother and me through blood, sweat, and sacrifice," Pei Yan, unfazed by this act, leaned forward with a mocking tone, "If one day our cornerstone plane suffers calamity, and you too come to sacrifice to save us, at that time, if you demand a dozen or so origin fragments, we would have no choice but to grudgingly agree."
"You!"
At this, Xila's expression instantly turned icy with killing intent. In Pei Yan's mind, Jun Zhao's whisper echoed, and after a moment, Pei Yan put on a pained expression, his tone shifting to regret as he said, "But now, since we face a common enemy, in light of the friendship forged in fighting side by side, I am willing to give an extra two origin fragments containing laws as gifts."
Hearing this, Xila, who was about to erupt, turned anger into joy, shaking her head with a sigh, "Ah, they all say the cornerstone plane is an energy wasteland. Now that it has finally birthed an origin, it's still very stingy! Two fragments then, let's settle for that!"
"Don't be ungrateful, or else these two won't be there either. Now that we've lightened the debt owed to you, let's discuss our deal."
"State your terms."
"For ten origin fragments, I will reluctantly accept the title of Prince."
Xila squinted at the unbelievably brazen man in front of her, saying in disbelief, "Why don't you just rob! Ten fragments! Don't think I don't know you've already scammed the Samikina Clan for nearly twenty fragments, adding another ten, you really think my father lays fragments like hens laying eggs!"
"Should you really say your father is a hen?"
"That's not the point!" Xila, driven nearly mad by his greed and twisted logic, roared as she sat down, causing her chair to shatter. She stood up and continued to shout, "Besides, I see that the power of death in you is almost saturated, having so many more fragments is just a waste, what do you need them for?"
"It's none of your business; such hard currency is always the more the better! Besides, my deal with the Samikina Clan is one thing, and my deal with you is another matter altogether." As Pei Yan gestured to his companions, who were about to step forward to check on the noise, to return, he defended himself rationally.
Hearing this, Xila spun around twice in place, her anger turning into laughter, "Haha, so making you the Prince of my clan wrongs you? We have to bribe you to do it? Do you know how many people in this world would kill for this chance!"
"That's you guys, not me! Even then, I'm at a loss. If my dad knew I inexplicably accepted someone else as a father while outside, he'd break my leg!" Pei Yan expressed disdainfully.
"I, I, I!" Stammering incoherently, Xila pointed at Pei Yan's nose, too exasperated to speak a full sentence.
"I've never seen such a shameless person, right?" Pei Yan said with a smile, continuing the conversation.
"You're somewhat self-aware."
"Self-awareness doesn't fill the stomach, say it, do you agree or not!"
Xila stared venomously at the obnoxious man in front of her. If it weren't for his significant connections, she would've torn him to pieces right there. She couldn't fathom how a candidate chosen by the origin of a dimensional plane could have such a vulgar and disgraceful attitude. After several deep breaths to quell her anger, she gritted out, "Ten is impossible, too many!"
"Negotiate another price; I'm not fixed on it."
"One fragment!"
"Are you crazy! What kind of bargaining is that, slashing it to the bone! Eight fragments!"
"Three fragments!"
"Seven fragments!"
"Five, no more!"
"Deal, five origin fragments must all contain laws!"
"You're the real demon here!"
As Pei Yan finalized the agreement for five fragments, he didn't care how the person in front of him thought of him. In a good mood, he gestured outward, "How do we settle their matters?"
Xila glanced outside, countering, "Are you referring to the cooperation between both races or the hanging bunch of fools?"
"Both!"
"Regarding the two races' cooperation, as told by my father before I came, as long as you can continue to expand the external achievements, all conditions you discussed with the Bailang Clan are fully recognized by the Holy City. After the Disaster Legion is repelled, your investigation team will be our sole cooperative partner in the cornerstone plane, with the Bailang Clan receiving support to handle trade and cooperation with your side."
At this point, Xila paused and continued, "As for that bunch of fools, haven't you already dealt with them? Feel free to kill or slash as you like."
"No, no, no! That's not enough; I want the heads of the families behind these people to roll," Pei Yan pointed outside at the high poles on the street, speaking deliberately.
"I heard none of your people died, apparently not even seriously injured. Isn't this demand a bit excessive?" Xila raised her eyebrows, retorting.
"This is about attitude and respect. It shows the Holy City's commitment to cooperating with us! If you knew my experiences upon arriving in your dimension, you'd understand the necessity of this. Only by such means can you set an example and deter those harboring ulterior motives, establish my authority and prevent fools like Little Friedrich from reappearing!"
Faced with Pei Yan's unyielding stance, Xila lightly nodded, "Setting an example, yes, the term is apt, but exterminating entire clans brings widespread implications and could stir backlash from the emerging nobles."
"The two main offenders must face punishment. As for the other four high-ranking ones?" Pei Yan thought for a moment and continued, "I want the Demon God to order them handed over to me, granting me control over their life and death, subject to my command. Other mid-level demons should only have their lives taken, sparing their families."
"This isn't out of the question. But what do you need four high-ranking demons for?" Knowing these families were already targets for suppression, Xila considered agreeing as an easy sell, but Pei Yan's latter request intrigued her.
