Otherworldly Affairs Office-Chapter 583: The Bridge of Friendship (Please Subscribe)
"These Independence Day movies from more than twenty years ago have these people from the Demon Race totally amazed. Imagine them watching Star Wars or The Avengers! They'd go nuts!" Kong Lin said softly in Mandarin into Peng Lang's ear, watching as the demons huddled around the smartphone emitting bursts of astonished exclamations.
Peng Lang was munching on a meat floss pancake made of some unknown meat. He smacked his lips and casually said, "That's the visual impact cultural differences bring. As Old Jiang mentioned, the Demon Race has similar photographic equipment they call 'photographic spheres.' While these aren't really precious to them, they don't use them purely for entertainment like we do. Their recordings are of real events, what we would call documentaries in our world. They think the stuff in the movies is real!"
Peng Lang then glanced at Jiang Feiyang, who was laughing heartily, brushing shoulders and whispering with a Demon Race girl in the crowd. Rolling his eyes, he stepped forward and poked Feiyang in the back, whispering, "Come on, we should be heading back!"
"Ah! Oh! Yeah, okay!" Even though Jiang Feiyang quickly agreed, he didn't move. It wasn't until Peng Lang and Kong Lin hoisted him by the shoulders, steering him away, that he reluctantly waved goodbye to the girl. Just then, she stepped forward, suddenly kissed Jiang Feiyang's cheek, whispered something in his ear, blushed brilliantly, and dashed out of the tavern.
"Old Jiang! I think you're getting cocky!" Peng Lang said, not in the best mood, looking at Jiang Feiyang who seemed absent-minded, glancing back every few steps as they walked back to the estate.
On hearing this, Jiang Feiyang seemed to make up his mind. He stopped and said, "You guys head back first, I have something to do!"
"What?" The three of them exclaimed in unison. Kong Lin shoved Jiang Feiyang and said solemnly, "What do you have to do? You're just looking for that little Demon Race girl. Don't forget Pei Zi told us not to act alone before we set off!"
"What, so you want to come with me for this?" Jiang Feiyang rolled his eyes, dissatisfied.
Seeing his friend's determination, Peng Lang frowned and said, "So Old Jiang is really going for it, huh?"
"I can't refuse such hospitality! The girl gave me her address, I can't let her down!" Jiang Feiyang, looking at his three companions, said pitifully, "My powers rarely let me stand out in the real world, it's only in battles like this that I can shine and be admired. Brothers, show some understanding! Give me a chance to make my name in another dimension and bring glory to men from our world."
Seeing that Jiang Feiyang was so earnest, the three of them looked at each other. Qi Hua still worriedly said, "But Pei Zi said..."
"Pei Zi! Pei Zi! He's living the good life, always full. He's got Xiaozhao, and it looks like Sifuer has eyes for him too. He has plenty of choices! Besides, Pei Zi would support me in this too! I'm not even leaving the town, and I have his tracking device with me! What could happen to me, a living human?"
"Ugh! He's infatuated!" Peng Lang knew that once someone was smitten, no amount of persuasion could stop them. With a sigh, he added, "But she's not even from the same race, could it work?"
"How would you know if you don't try? I, Jiang Feiyang, am willing to be the first one to break barriers between the races! To build a bridge of friendship for a splendid future between our two peoples." Jiang Feiyang said, puffing his chest out righteously.
"I've never seen someone so shameless!" Peng Lang shook his head, resigned. "Fine, I can't outtalk you. One last question, if things really work out, aren't you worried a few years down the road your mom will be shocked? Seeing a horned mother and child calling her grandma might give the old lady a fright."
"Fear not, I came prepared with protection!" Jiang Feiyang replied with a proud smile, patting his storage ring.
"You're still carrying that stuff here?"
"That's called being prepared. You never know when it might come in handy. And now, who knows, it might just come in handy!"
The three of them realized they couldn't stop him. Qi Hua shrugged and said casually, "Well, since we're at this point, dragging it out will just annoy people. Old Jiang, nothing else but to wish you success! Just in case, leave us the girl's address. If something happens, we can find you."
Jiang Feiyang, seeing his companions agreeing, quickly gave them the address the girl left at the tavern and added, "Do me a favor and keep this secret, or I'll definitely get grilled when I get back. Help me buy some time, thanks! I'll treat you guys to a meal when we return. You can choose the restaurant!"
"An afternoon? Can you last an afternoon? Wait up!" Peng Lang called out to Jiang Feiyang, who was about to leave, half amused, half annoyed. Noticing the puzzled look on Jiang Feiyang's face, he reminded him, "Are you just going to meet the girl empty-handed? Don't bring shame to our investigation department."
"Oh! Right! Should I buy some flowers?" Jiang Feiyang exclaimed, slapping his forehead in realization. "But we've circled the town a few times and haven't seen any flower shops."
"If they aren't selling them, then it means they're not popular here. Think about what novel things a local girl might find surprising." Peng Lang said, checking with the others, "Guys, check your rings and see if you have any little trinkets worth giving."
"I have a Zippo lighter and a Swiss Army knife. Will those do?" Kong Lin and Qi Hua said, rummaging through their things.
"Sure, bring them out. If you have any snacks, offer them too, let her try something new." Peng Lang said, taking off his mechanical watch and handing it to Jiang Feiyang. "It's a men's watch, but I doubt they care here. If something really works out, teach her how to use it, don't make us seem stingy!"
Seeing his hands full with all the gifts, Jiang Feiyang was moved to tears, saying, "Brothers, nothing more needs to be said! Just wait for the news of my triumphant return."
"Now go on, get going!" Watching Jiang Feiyang hurry away at a run, disappearing into the distance, Peng Lang and the other two exchanged smiles and headed back towards the estate together.
Twenty minutes later, having asked for directions along the way, Jiang Feiyang finally arrived at his destination, wiping the sweat from his brow with a handkerchief. After a few deep breaths to calm his excitement, he adjusted his hair and put on what he thought was a charming smile, then knocked on the door of the two-story house.
"Coming!" A moment later, a sweet, bell-like voice responded. The door opened to reveal a small, adorable figure. She tilted her head and, seeing Jiang Feiyang outside looking a bit nervous, smiled softly, "You're here?"
"Hello, Yinuka!" Jiang Feiyang greeted the girl who, fascinated by his heroic stories at the tavern, had developed a keen interest in him.
"Where are your friends?" Yinuka asked, pushing the door open while peering behind Jiang Feiyang.
"They had some things to do, so they went back first!"
"Oh! Then come in, I've been expecting you!" Yinuka led Jiang Feiyang inside, slowly closing the door as the smile on her face gradually disappeared, speaking with deeper meaning.
